Another clueless "I read it on the internet" troll. My power is just fine.

Best reason not to move here from California or New York? If you're opposed to guns and try to tell us about it, you'll wish you'd stayed in Socialism Country. But here is what is even funnier. States with highest gun ownership per capita. We didnt make the top 10:

    1. Montana (66.30%)
    2. Wyoming (66.20%)
    3. Alaska (64.50%)
    4. Idaho (60.10%)
    5. West Virginia (58.50%)
    6. Arkansas (57.20%)
    7. Mississippi (55.80%)
    8. Alabama (55.50%)
    9. South Dakota (55.30%)
    10. North Dakota (55.10%)

SoCal native here, if you took a poll at my office (located in SoCal) of nearly 400 people I'm willing to bet more than half are from out of state and/or country.
That said, I've had nearly 10 friends move out of here in the past two years. Wife and I are also entertaining it. Her sister moved to Allen, TX about 5 years ago.

I was born and mostly raised in Texas, went to high school in San Diego, CA. I lived in Georgia, Washington, DC, and North Carolina while stateside in the Army, lived in Germany and Panama overseas. I ended up back in Texas after retiring, but honestly, because there is almost no state owned, freely-accessible-to-the-public property, it costs money to do just about any kind of outdoor activities here unless you own some land or know someone that does. Pretty much everywhere else I have lived has had much more free outdoor activities than are available here due to private ownership of the entire state. Everything is fenced and gated here. I miss all the BLM land we used to run wild on in CA. Everyone here goes to CO and/or UT to go off-roading, so y’all move there instead. It sucks here and the scorpions are way worse than you can imagine.

I’m all for people moving out of California, it’s too crowded here.

I will say one thing about California and Colorado is that there are a shit ton of parks and trails and public land that you don’t see as much of in the south.

No place on the planet is better than California, the problem is it's too expensive to live there. Those little towns by the coast, Monterey, Big Sur, Carmel, Santa Cruz, they are Paradise

    Tinted fronts, blacked out overlays.
I’m also a native Californian and yes there is an extreme tilt to one side of the political spectrum but as others have stated, I can drive one hour from my house and be on BLM that you can hike and off-road for miles and miles, not to mention big open places that allow target shooting if that’s what you’re in to. It’s not a perfect place but As far as outdoor activities are concerned I don’t think year round you can beat California for all the things you can do on any given day.
To add, when people I know tell me they are thinking of moving out of state, I tell them all to move to Texas LOL.

I lived there for 6 years. Way too many people to be able to enjoy any of the nice areas! Too hard and time consuming to get there. California's biggest asset, is their weather. Florida can't hold a stick to it. Most people I ran into were very introverted and to themselves. Not real friendly. Biggest concern was glitz, glamor and how pretty their cars looked.
Sorry, just a general impression and in no way wanting to offend anyone here,...who is stuck there!
Enjoy your weather!...I did...if I stayed home by the pool.

The state is the size of a medium sized European century in terms of real estate and population, it would be very difficult to make a generalized statement, but most people seem to think it’s either like Los Angeles or San Francisco.

My most favorite city in California is Crescent City literally walking distance from the Redwood National Park. It is a little gem on the coast.

Yes, there ARE beautiful places and sights to see out there, but.....Well, I better stop there. This could too easily get political.

The San Diego canyons we used to go 4wheelin in around Clairemont and Mira Mesa are now full of industrial complexes, strip malls and megahoods. I-15 was 2 lanes in each direction and a good alternative to 163 because it had less traffic when I left in Nov 85. Now it is like 6 or 8 lanes wide and a couple time a day it is creeping along bumper to bumper, max capacity. The traffic going virtually anywhere in San Diego is crazy on weekends, especially near the beaches and then you gotta fight for parking, then stand in a long line for everything, even to take a damn leak. Love the weather, can’t ever live there again. Too crowded!

I live on the Texas coast...Most of my 4Runner time is in the sand...I like the mountain trails, but I love the beaches. The main reason I live here is because I am an avid saltwater fisherman...Thousands upon thousands of acres of public access.

What a gigantic country. But come on guys, Texas beaches are not true beaches. It's just the gulf not a true ocean :D

I can't believe this, Texas is closer to Colorado than Washington. I'm far away from everything :(
