I picked up a set of the Toyo AT3's in mid-February at the local Discount Tire. Made a few hours away in Georgia (USA), and manufactured the first week of 2022. Color me pleased.

Of the 4 Toyos I just recently bought, 2 are made in the US and the other 2 in Japan.

I have Wildpeaks, made in China and love them! They're quiet and great on wet asphalt. We recently had a significant snow and they did very well.
Made in China...I don't really care. I try to buy " made in USA ", but...:notsure:

From what I've read, they're made in both USA and Japan.

I bought Toyo AT3's from Discount Tire 265/75r16 Load E last summer for my Taco. They were made in Japan. Also the sidewalls were less aggressive than some pics I had seen in my research. Wondering if the U.S. made Toyo's have the more aggressive sidewalls vs. the made in Japan ones?

That's the size and load range I have. Mine are made in the US. I'm curious if yours will be, also.

I thought It was usually the LT's that had the beefier sidewall. I'm not sure why they went with such a conservative sidewall, in general. Even the LT sidewalls aren't super aggressive. They're great tires!

"Thinking of going this route. How heavy did they end up being? I have 275/70 Falkens and they are Waaaay too heavy. Felt a difference as soon as i drove out of the tire shop."

I think the Toyos are around 55# apiece. I still remember the first ride on them. They felt pretty normal in regular driving, but I could definitely feel the difference under harder acceleration.

Anywhere from 12 to 19 depending on my mood and how I am loaded. Driving home from up north this Sunday, I got 18.5. This was with the roof rack on, cruising around 60 mph. I also have a lot of extra weight bolted on, and permanently kept in the cargo area. So, I'm sure that affects me some.

I wish this was apples to apples but it's not.

First real snowstorm since I got my 4Runner and I have to say I think the Toyo AT3s are better in snow than the Falken AT3Ws were. The caveat is the Falkens were on my F150, Toyos on my 4R (and a set of Grabber ATx on the F150 in between, those were by far the worst of the three).

I have been reluctant to bash the Falken Wildepeak AT3's. Don't know why. Anyway, I am less than impressed by them in the snow when accelerating off the line. Maybe I am expecting too much. In traffic, I can't get the jump-off-the-line other vehicles do, even when they are on passenger car tires. Running 36 psi.
I don't do jackrabbit starts anymore. Nice and easy, up to speed. At speed the tires are fine, and stopping is good. It's the getting going part that frustrates me. Back end kicks out, shift into 4WD, then she goes. But in 2WD....leaves much to be desired.
My '96 Silverado pick-up with Goodyear Silent Armors' is a beast in the snow, even with an empty bed. Went through 2ft of snow for miles that one scary night. Had to use the telephone poles, mailboxes and hi-way signs for "channel markers". Good times...not.

I expected more from the 4R and Wildpeaks. Hell of it is, they ride so well, and I like the look of them, that I'll probably buy another set when the time comes.

Noticed same thing this morning after it snowed all last night, maybe an inch or two snow on road. I have Wildpeaks as well.

Was in 2wd and stopped at exit of my development before turning right onto main street then accelerated to turn on to said Main Street. Lots of slipping. (Wife has a RAV4 part time AWD and slipped/spun tires a little as well in same spot)

put my 4Runner into 4WD and no more slipping.

this is my first RWD vehicle so not sure if this is just a RWD issue when in 2wd on slippery roads or is it a tire issue.

my previous car was a Subaru Forester and I had Wildpeaks on it and rarely slipped from start but being a Subaru it’s always in 4WD and grips well.

the other passenger cars that do better at starts in the snow are probably AWD or front wheel drive (that still probably does better than RWD)

Makes me think I should have gotten the Limited trim that’s AWD all the time. But it costs more to start and has 4 blingy tires and wheels that I would have to replace immediately

Good test today of the Wildpeaks. Lessons learned:

2wd in a rear wheel drive vehicle sucks in snow and ice. Especially uphill.

in 4WD with the Wildpeaks the 4Runner drove great. From accelerating from dead stop at traffic lights did not get any slip or spin. From starts on incline, no slipping (except my driveway for a second). Going into turns at reasonable speeds, no slipping.

30 min of driving in this and only had a couple moments of a brief second of slip/spin. One was going up my inclined iced driveway from a dead stop.

I can attest to Goodyear Silent Armors... Had them on my Mercury Mountaineer. Extraordinarily performance in snow. Unfortunately sizes not available in 20" for T4R
