Falken Wildpeak AT3W 265/70R17 36PSI. KDSS. Tokico suspension. MTM camera system
Debating the above tires for a 5th gen TRD Pro, stock, 265/70R17

90-95% of time on-road (dry to wet, snowy/ice depending on year and elevation in Sierra Mountains). When I do off road it is usually on dirt roads, washboards, hard dirt roads w/ sharp to blunt baseball sized rocks sticking out. I don’t rock crawl

Toyo would be in SL weighing in at a svelte 39lbs
Wildpeaks would be SL and a 45lb tire.

preliminary research shows these 2 tires are both fairly good in snow/ice/water, dirt/mud.

My main concern is a puncture/flat tire from potential random sharp rock whilst cruising down dirt or gravel or washboards.

Have looked at K02’s but seems like they aren’t as good in wet/Ice conditions but better of the above off road.

I also don’t want to really get to crazy on the tire weight.

I too not very happy Wildpeaks are heavy. Also I'm not happy to see they are made in Thailand. And some people see its made in China.

My KO2 are made in USA & Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac made in Canada. I wonder where Toyo OC AT3 are made in.

With the size SL 265/70R17 I don't see 3PMSF rating on Toyo OC AT3. Am I missing something? If that's the case I would go with Wildpeak AT3W between the 2.

I had Toyo AT3 tires and they were great until I upgraded to the Nitto trail grappler. I have no complaints on those AT3. Solid tires. Good in snow and did a great job all around in my opinion. If they were as big as my current tire I would have kept them.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
I had SL 265/70R17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W's on my 4Runner before switching to my current 285 E rated Yokohama Geolandar MT's.

They were OK - good on wet / slick roads. I had them in the snow & ice in Michigan once. Seemed a little sketchy but I'm rusty on my snow ice driving. The worked OK off road with my locking rear engaged.

In the almost 3 years of owning them I got a tread puncture, a chipped tread block, and sidewall cuts.
I bought them from Discount Tire with the insurance certificates. I had DT replace 2 of the tires for "free" using those insurance certs.

When it came time to add new taller E rated MT tires. I pretty well eliminated Falkens from the competition for weight and price.

I haven't used Wildpeaks, but have AT3's on mine currently. They're very good tires. Reasonably quiet, good traction all around, and good treadwear so far. I would definitely buy again.

The AT3's are 3PMSF tires. My 285's are.

If it got 3PMSF rating + Made in USA + not too heavy. That sounds best option to me.

The SL version are super light! I might go SL on my next set since I have the MT's for shenanigans.

    I wasn't sure, so I just looked:

    Everyone here already knows that.

Nothing wrong with trying to buy USA made tires and aftermarket products, though. :)

I was actually debating between these two and the Cooper Rugged Treks. I took the Wildpeaks off my list due to some of them being made in China, some quality control issues I’ve seen online, and because they’ve gone up significantly in price. I ended up purchasing the coopers because they have a slightly higher load rating, seem a bit more rugged and I just liked the look of them more. I’m really happy with them, but don’t think you can go wrong with the Toyos at all

My Wildpeaks were made in the US - I got them almost 2 years ago though. Did they move production overseas?

they have factories in USA, Thailand and believe they recently opened a factory in China. From what I’ve heard, they are moving more and more production to China

Took the MTs off for winter? Pondering those for my next set, but still have some miles to go.

Yup. I'm in full incognito mode.

Are you thinking SL or LT?

The Toyo AT3's have been a fantastic tire for me; great on road manners, no balance issues, good on wet roads, good in sand, with enough wheel spin and some luck they've gotten me through some mud (though I certainly won't be intentionally looking for mud holes), good all around off-road, and have been excellent in snow (on and off road).

I have a tendency to always want to try different tires... but put a set on my 4Runner, and then when my Jeep needed tires, I put a set on it too. Could be the first time I've ever bought a second set of same make/model tire, and for me, that's saying a lot.

Mine are C's. I think It's good for an all around tire. I would have gotten SL's if I had known I was going to buy the Yokohamas for shenanigans.

I'm kinda the same. I have only had a few sets that I would repeat buy. So far, the Toyos would make the cut. :)

I wouldn’t pay a premium price (Wildpeaks) for a tire made in a non-premium country (Thailand/China). Just my 2 cents

Without straying too far off topic, I wouldn’t be too quick to judge the quality of work for products made in countries outside your own. Some of the best yachts in the world are made in Thailand. :p

I agree trying to buy in the US ( I work in a Freightliner Truck factory) but honestly one of the reasons I bought the 4Runner because it was still built in Japan. I just bought Wildpeaks today and they are marked made in Japan. Good luck on your choice. C4659301-7B9C-47D8-A076-E1CDB1288784.jpg

I was just replying to another post. And, pointing out that everyone here already knew the 4Runner was made in Japan.

I didn't know my Toyos were made here, but I'm glad they are. I'm not sure where my Yokohamas were made, but I still like them. ;)

I have been running the Toyo OC AT3 for a little while they seem quiet to me. I was thinking of going with Nokian Rotiva AT prior. I had them on my RAV4 they worked out good.

I just put on Falken 275s. I told the tire dealer that I wanted to make sure they weren't from China before installing and I got ones from Thailand. Love the ride. Not loud.

I was complaining that mine were made in Thailand. Some of members here were lucky to have Made in Japan and I thought I saw some one had made in USA Falkens.
May be its just me, anything not from USA, Canada, Japan, Germany I consider not that worth.. (Again, its just me..)
