Anyone with Dobinson IMS or MRA want to share their experiences?

Thanks Roland for your great info. Looks like your having fun with your 4Runner.
Mike suggested the same setup except a different strut. I am going 3" up front and 1.5 " rear to get the almost level look or 1/2'' rake. I'm trying to decide if I should go IMS or MRA.
I'm hoping to get 285/55/20 with a negative offset. Should I start another post in the general or tire and wheel section? I would like to see how much a -12 or -18 sticks out side of the fenders.

Can you provide me with the reference numbers Mike gave you on shocks and coils/springs. MRA/MRR is a 3-way valving adjustment, meaning there is an external reservoir added which is great, top of the line, I don't know if Mike would advise you these for your application about $2,200.00 for shocks only, I could see if you would do high speed desert driving on regular bases for hours at the time.

The IMS is actually the same shock, without the reservoir, they are very well tuned and are great on & off-road and cost $1,100 which is half for the 4 shocks, both systems are height adjustable in front. Don't forget It's the Coils/Springs that do the lifting & in case you are going to go a full 3" in front you might need aftermarket upper control arms as well, 2.5" is a bit at max.

Roland this is what I got from Mike. C59-302 Front coils,IMS59-50574 or MRA59-A574 Front struts. C59-505 rear 1.5 coils,IMS59-50705 or MRA59-A701 rear shocks. UCA's SPC or Dobinsons. SPC biggest range for adjustment and Dobinsons with zero maintenance. Possible extended sway bar links.

Mike did give me the run down between both the IMS and MRA's. I believe I mentioned it before, this 4Runner will probably not see very much off road. It will be my wife's 4runner.

I have dobinsons IMS. Very happy with them. Here is the link to my install thread: https://www.4runners.com/threads/dobs-ims-going-in-5th-gen-trd-or.22129/

Keep in mind, comfort is very subjective. The IMS are much firmer than the stock shocks. But I still consider them very comfortable because of their damping qualities. Just know it will ride like a totally different vehicle, in a very good way IMO.

One thing about remote reservoir shocks for a daily driver. It’s great to have the performance and damping adjustability, but it’s probably best for someone who needs it and is willing to put up with possible need for maintanance. On each shock, you have two hose junctions, which means you have an additional 8 possible leak points for a whole set. Shocks without a resi only have the piston seals to worry about. Not knocking resi shocks at all, but it’s good to know what you’re getting into for daily driver use.

I see, Mike gave you a choice, they are both great setups; you can't go wrong with either of them. Well, you know what you are going to use your 4R for. Let us know & post pictures when done.

    Good luck.

Sweet! You planning on installing them yourself? What model shocks did you get? What amount of lift are you aiming for?

    Hey Guys,
My Dobinsons IMS kit arrived. Just waiting on a few more parts.
Any tips that someone may have learned while doing their lift?
I have KDSS. Which do I do first? Would it be better to do KDSS first since it’s not on some kind of stress then it would be when lifted?

    thanks

I cant comment on the KDSS aspect…but make sure that you tighten the lower control arm bolts with the weight of the vehicle on the ground. Otherwise You’ll shorten the life of those bushings.

In my install thread in my post above, somebody linked me to some torque values for various bolts, that will be helpful.

    Good luck!

Thanks I’ll look at the link.

So for lower control arms snug bolts in air then set vehicle on ground with vehicle weight and torque bolts?

    Did you do UCA’s also?
Just wondering what would be the best steps if replacing UCA at the same time.
I’m thinking it would be easier to replace UCA with struts removed. Just need to support knuckle and rotors since both upper and lower UCA’s will be disconnected. Or is there a better way?

    thanks

Great selection on lift. Dobinson are top notch. My buddy has it on his 5th gen and he loves it. Regarding UCA, it’s not hard to have them install later on down the road.

And just for the record, I have icons cdcv and have had no issues. I read somewhere (forgot where) that kings also had same issues w/ leaks. I’m sure every manufacturer has their own little flaws, people just posts about it.
