Hello everyone, just back from my trip to Moab. Working on the video, hence, some pictures from the top of the world and steel bender trail; more to come, working on it. (Teaser).

The two trails above are stated difficult, I have done them some years ago with another vehicle; I have to say that these trails became more difficult, most likely erosion played a big role in the deterioration of the landscape.

The 4runner off-road prowess is outstanding; the Dobinsons lift & Bfg’s KO 2 made it possible to do these trails without rubbing or any scratch on the 4runner. The only vehicles seen on these trails (Jeeps with 37” tires & the Hummer in front of me with lockers in front and rear).

In other words, this is Jeep land. Not necessary so!

Cool. Moab, is something else. Love it there. Live in Utah, and Moab, just has some sort of feeling about it. Spiritual. Happy adventures mate.

Sure is, my favorite place for off-roading. Nature at best.

Which Dobinson’s components did you choose? I have a ’21 Venture and my plan is Dobinson’s with KO2’s as well. Appreciate any info you can share!

Lift: Dobinsons IMS59-50700 shocks - coils C59-302 Front - Dobinsons shocks IMS59-50705 - Coils C59-505 Rear. 2.7" front lift (shocks adjustable set at 215mm from the strut bushing eye to support a 2.7” front lift). No Upper Control Arms needed, with the 285/70/17 installed about a 4" lift; works wonders. Call Mike great guy, lots of knowledge. Highly recommended.

I sincerely appreciate it - our garages here in AZ aren’t very tall, so I’m trying to cram in as much as I can without getting too tall for the entrance.

This is actually EXACTLY the setup I have in my cart at Exit right now. No UCA’s necessary? I’d have figured that 2.5” of lift in the front would mean I’d need them for sure.

    Thanks again!

    Your welcome,
Coils C59-302 for 2.5" the coil seat on the IMS59-50700 shocks should be set at 213mm (8.38") from the middle of the strut bushing eye. And no. UCA's are not necessary. A good alignment is important Caster - camber - toe. Caster is important for no rubbing issues, my caster settings are a bit positive, don't have the number, alignment shop lost the info, computer error I was told.

    Thank you, Jake,

These are some screen shots from my GoPro hero 9 mounted on my windshield; it's hard to see the degree of difficulty, some of those ledges are steep and high over 3 Ft, crawling slow and taking the best lines is the name of the game here; hence, the 4R with this simple lift and tires did an outstanding job, I'm blown away how good the 4R handled these trails. Seeing some jeeps with 37" tires struggling on some of these obstacles makes you appreciate a 4runner.

Working on a video of the trip, have some more spectacular pictures to come.

I can't thank you enough for your outstanding advise on the set-up.
