My sales guys always tries to go over the feature.

But since he is a friend I tell him I got it. But it is their policy here to at least try.

Well I went to a couple of dealers some salesmen are great, most of them have no clues. They just want the deal now. "hey do you like it, let sit down talk #"

I wouldn't say that it's the dealership or salesperson's responsibility, but a great salesman might explain or at least ask if the buyer understood the 4wd system.

I don't think part time 4wd, 4hi, 4lo is common knowledge anymore. But, OTOH, it is ultimately the buyer's responsibility to learn about the vehicle they're buying. If you're not sure you understand something, the manual and google are always there.

    Cheap stuff
When I was shopping for my 5th gen 4Runner, only 1 guy knows how to operate the 4wd lever properly, and this was the first truck I saw, out of 3. It was a 2010 SR5 4wd, but it has the transfer case lever and told me how to use it. The 2nd truck I saw was a 2015 Trail and the owner didn't even bother learning how to use the lever or the crawl stuff. The 3rd truck I saw was also a 2015 Trail from a Toyota dealership and the sales guy has no clue how to operate the crawl stuff and little knowledge on the transfer case.

Chadd, just wondering.... what kind of RPM's was the engine turnin' at 40MPH? Just curious, not trying to pick on you.

Driving in 4H isn't a problem as long as you're not turning on hard surfaces.

I regularly shift into 4H when on the road driving to work during the spring/summer/fall. I run both the FJ & the 4Runner for a coupla minutes in 4H on the highway on the way to work to keep all the t-case gears lubed up, never had an issue yet with over 100k miles on the FJ to date.

I wondered the same. If he was doing 40mph like he said, I doubt 4L had even engaged.

Welcome from Arizona. I'm glad to hear your problem was minor and easily fixed.
