As you consider what features to add to the site you may want to think about:
    - Some dealers won't sell to out-of-state buyers
    - Some charge markup for out-of-state buyers but not local buyers
    - Some don't charge markup on anything on the lot
    - Some models have differing levels of markup

As one example, @610s had a great experience at Stevinson West with no markup on the in-stock Limited, but when I spoke to them a couple months ago they were adding $10k for the Pro.

Yes! They did say for awhile they were marking up, but they aren't any more. Of course, since I wasn't after one of those "markup-able trims" they could have been feeding me a line. Also - one of us is an instate resident and one is out of state resident. They sell to CO, surrounding states, and Alaska. (Our out of state is also a surrounding state.)

A good example of how short our collective memory will be. As soon as the markup stops being advantageous for them, they get added to the "good" list.

I heard a commercial for Team Toyota in NJ. Princeton and one other town, I forget. They claim they're not doing markups, but they said right in the ad that supply is bad and wait times are bad. If the commercial is to be trusted then at least it's an option for ordering and waiting.

I was at Dayton Toyota last month for my last Toyotacare, and I saw that they were doing markups, so meh.

Picked up my AG Off-road Premium yesterday from Longo Toyota in Cali. Was working with David Lee and he was able to get it to me for a few hundred under MSRP.

Edit: NM just saw it took you 4 months

Toyota Carlsbad. Just picked up my SR5 Premium 4x4 for MSRP after waiting almost 2 months with a deposit.

But they do have dealer add-ons for TRD models.

Been looking at any color other than lime rush green and get the same answer form these salesmen? Its not a mark up but a "market value adjustment" so sick of these excuses. Other states are telling me to i have to be local to buy from them. so I am still looking but haven't found anyone to sell me at MSRP and I can't get on a waiting list out here in Cali specifically the bay area.

Hang in there. The deals are out there. Talk to Scott at Lithia Medford (Medford Oregon) or Harry at Dick Hannah (Kelso Washington). I think Lithia is charging $2-3k over MSRP; Dick Hannah is MSRP. Longer drive but solid salespeople (which seems to be rare).

FWIW still waiting for mine. Placed a deposit 4 months ago for MGM Pro at MSRP. Hoping my dealer comes through soon - growing a little tired of the wait!

If someone gets on a list right now and waits 4 months, it's August and the '23 is coming out. The deals may or may not be out there at this point.

Some people have been going way out of state. It costs less to fly out of state and drive home than the markup costs. But at this point, just find the closest MSRP dealers and get on a list knowing you'll probably get a '23. Rumor has it that the 6th gen was pushed back so the '23 will be exactly the same with a few updates. Do you really want a '22 as the '23 is coming out?

Just trying to offer suggestions. When I got on the list 4 months ago I was (and am still) first in line for my color/trim at at least a couple dealers. Hoping that those who are just starting their search are benefiting from improved wait times and lower demand due to exorbitant gas prices, but I'm probably being grossly optimistic.

Fair point, but the '22 is really just a '10+ so the differences between a '22 and '23 are minor unless you're looking for resale value.

Tough uphill climb regardless of your individual situation. Good luck to all who are continuing to chase their ideal 4runner in a market which is clearly working against them.

PS I'll take a '22 even with the possibility that they'll extend the current gen into '23. "A bird in the hand" and all that...

I think the MSRP on 23s are going to jump up some. But I could be wrong.

Ok, so none of the dealers I'm talking to have mentioned any kind of list. I tell them exactly what I want, they send me some listings of trucks they will have in two weeks but not quite what I want, and try to push that.

Is there a wait list? How exactly is this game played?

Also, is it possible to not pay for Toyoguard?

Ughh...all I want is to not have an extra $2k tacked on.

If dealerships are able to offer you something they are getting in two weeks, that means they really don’t have a wait list. If you are set on getting exactly what you want, you will have to keep working with a few dealerships and hope Toyota makes and sends it to one of the dealerships you are working with. There is no ordering exactly what you want, even in good times, Toyota didn’t do special orders, but it was easier.

Typically, right now, there's either a wait list or a markup. Especially on the higher trims. But not always. I happened to call a dealer in a smaller city right when they listed my Pro and I got it with no wait list or markup. Depends on the area and the dealer.

I saw an article a couple days ago that suggested Toyota is considering a 4% price increase due to rising costs. Can't find the link anymore otherwise I'd share it here. I think you're also implying they'll raise prices (more than that?) due to market demand, which seems pretty likely. I believe they're able to see the sales price of every vehicle at every dealership and with many/most dealers charging over MSRP they have good data on what the market is willing to pay for each model.

Each dealer gets an allocation of certain colors/trims/models from Toyota one or more times a month based on the dealer's sales volume and what Toyota is planning to build. What you're seeing is the incoming list of inventory based on that allocation. Not all dealers have wait lists, but those who do are basically selling a preferential spot in a list for your specific model/trim/color. If/When it gets allocated to the dealer, it gets tagged with your name.

Charlotte (NC) area has 4 Toyota dealers. 2 charge above MSRP: Rock Hill and Scott Clark. 2 do not: Town & Country and Gastonia.

Here are some texts I got from the Scott Clark salesman:

How the hell can two dealerships stay in business selling the same product for $2500 more than their competitors?

Recently purchased a 4Runner TRD Off Road with XP Package from Modern Toyota of Asheboro in NC at MSRP thanks to this forum. Speak with the sales person Tyler Gaddy, he will get you hooked up.

I knew that used cars were going for crazy amounts but didn't realize it's the case with many new cars too. I live in the Charlotte, NC area and quickly found out that local dealerships were all price gouging customers. One had a 4Runner with 3k miles on it and they were selling it at MSRP. They also had a new one that was $5k over MSRP.

This forum lead me to Modern Toyota of Asheboro which is a 2-hour drive. They made the entire sales process easy and it's the first time that I enjoyed buying a car. Zero sales pressure, less than 10 minutes in the finance office. I've had more difficulty buying groceries.

They said people are coming from all over to buy Toyota's from them.
