Let's talk about Viper Cuts!

If you went through with Viper cut would you have remaining issues in these areas? Are these areas damaged also from the accident or maybe it’s just the pic I am seeing?

 

My experience begs to differ!

I have scuffs right where a viper cut would be that weren’t due to some large rock.

 

If you pay cash, you can get that fixed for $500, maybe less - at least for what is clearly visible.

 

Thanks. I'll give that some thought too. I'm weighing all my options right now, and I'm in no rush to get it fixed.

Hates a little rub that can be painted over but willing to unforgivably cut half the bumper off .. hmmm

 

Suggestions from out here in the sticks:

1. Put a Band-Aid over it and enjoy the laughs.
2. Consider going to one of the wrap shops and finding a vinyl that matches the color and have it wrapped?

Man, I'd be scared to death to cut into that. ;^)

Viper Cut does not look good without a lift imo. I have one with no lift.

 

I'd agree with this.

Without some big tires and offset to match it looks funky.
A viper cut is a compromise. A compromise of aero and water intrusion in favor of clearance for your tire and clearance for obstacles.
When I see stockish rigs with high viper cuts... Well it's not a look I'd go for.

You've all made some great points and suggestions.

I'm going to rule out a viper cut for my ride. Because for my use case, it's not only unnecessary, but it would look weird (dumb). That also means adding a full steel bumper is out. Again, I don't have a lift or larger tires, so slapping a big, and very heavy bumper on would seem....well, dumb.

My ride is purely a pavement princess and it crawls really hard at the mall. It's definitely the toughest and coolest looking ride on my street and in my company's parking garage.

I thought the idea from @vthoky was pretty funny, and I may do that.....until I decide to pay out of pocket to get it fixed/repaired correctly and put back to stock. This is why I love this site. I had an idea that I thought would be awesome, but after getting some feedback (positive & negative) I realized my idea was terrible. I usually have terrible ideas on Wednesdays so I'm not that shocked.

I’m not against the high clearance look but everyone I see one I can’t help seeing this…


Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the purpose behind high clearance mods it’s just that I don’t see myself running class 4 and above trails anytime (I do enjoy watching others run em!)

 

Another option is to just remove the front bumper and fenders all together.

Actually, I was being sarcastic. If I encountered an obstacle that required trimming the front bumper, then I would simply drive around it. But I get it, driving around an obstacle doesn’t have the same cool factor.

 

I came to the same conclusion when thinking about a "garden snake cut" on mine!

 

My issue was the stupid Limited trim. The roads where I go trucking in the summer are too narrow, the rocks sometimes too big, or the angle too much to go around them.

 

There isn't always an option to go around.

 

I had my bumper repaired (paid out of pocket). The before/after picture. I think the guy did a great job, plus he came to my work.
