It's not like they'll be gone forever.

There will be plenty on the used market for years to come.

Man that stinks. Mine has been wonderful. My third brake light didn't leak at all untill I already had a appointment for inspection. I have to say my wifes new 4runner does feel more solid.

I should have bought a 4Runner like my wife wanted, instead of the 17. At least I was able to correct it.

and that seating position was pretty bad….I was happy to part ways with my 18 Tacoma, even if the 6 speed was fun once the OVTune was installed

David Chao from Automotive Press just posted a YT video suggesting that the 6th gen 4Runner may be delayed for another 1-2 years. It may not come out until 2024 as a 2025 MY.

This is pretty much what we've been expecting. Check out the 6th gen speculation thread:

I do wonder what can Toyota possibly do to “update” the current 5th gen T4R. They just updated the infotainment and center console a couple years ago. Perhaps the new Toyota/Lexus infotainment treatment.

2023 T4R got heated steering wheel and turn markers on the side mirrors.

I'm sure they'll continue to do basically nothing and still raise the price. When people have been willingly paying MSRP and even over MSRP for an outdated dinosaur of a vehicle for the last few years, why would they bother?

I just hope they don't ruin it with the 6th gen.

And, I wish we could get some information about it so I could decide whether to keep spending money on my '19 or wait for the 6th gen. At least I'll save some money by leaving it alone for a few years. :D

I get the "it's a dinosaur" thing, but why doubt a radical change? Look at Tundra - also previously a dinosaur, full new update to TNGA platform. Also seemingly successful - there's hope for 6th gen.

Did you read the comment I replied to? It was referring to what updates the 5th gen might get in the meantime.

Everyone already knows they're switching to the TNGA platform, and getting rid of the 1GR for the 6th gen. Turbo 4 and hybrid drivetrains have also been in the conversation. So, we all know that there will be significant changes when they finally start production.

I just noticed this. Some trims already had blinkers on the mirrors.

correct. I believe the side mirro turn markers appeared on some SR5 models years ago but never made it onto the TRD Pro until 2023. Weird. Toyota just keeps mixing up the parts bin and calling it new updates.

Sorry if I came off like a crotchety old man in my reply. After rereading it, I could probably lighten up a bit. :anonymous:

I really hope they nail it with the 6th gen. Like you mentioned, the Tundra was a huge change from the previous generation. :)

Lol! True! Sometimes the differences between the trims just don't make any sense to me.

Side note: my '19 ORP has the mirror signals. I wonder if it is a part of the premium package.:notsure:

You're good! I, like many on here, need to read more closely before firing off a reply.
We're all here because we love the product (minus a few), so there's faith they'll nail 6th gen like they did for new Tundra/Sequoia (in my opinion).

How has the Tundra been so far? I've read about some fit and finish quality issues, and some turbo problems. But, I'm hoping those are the exception.

From what I've heard, Toyota reacted pretty quickly on the turbo (wastegate) issue. I've had zero problems.
Fit/Finish/Quality also seems great - I know TRD Jon (YouTuber, if you don't know) had some center console issues; mine is solid.
I'm very happy with the power & torque - MPG is just OK (averaging 16.7 but I don't feather the pedal).
Felt really solid hauling a very full bed of firewood, generators, and camping gear...and MPG weirdly didn't suffer at all.

I get a ton of looks, thumbs ups, and requests for me to roll my window down and chat about it. Couldn't be happier.

This guy used to be engineer for Toyota in Japan. Very knowledgeable on Toyota products.

He thinks the 4Runner 6th gen might be put off until Fall 2024 (for 2025 models).

He also believes the 4Runner will still be made in Japan, instead of the new Mexico factory everyone was talking about a while back. 4runner is the only Toyota model produced at the Lexus Factory in Japan.

There are two Toyota-badged vehicles built in the Tahara plant.

The 4Runner is built on the Land Cruiser J150 platform and all Land Cruiser 150 variants (Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the Lexus Gx460) are built on the same assembly line at the Tahara plant.

The 4Runner shares all mechanical parts (frame, shocks, rear axle, brakes, hubs transmission and engine) with the Land Cruiser Prado currently sold in the Middle East. Different panels, same truck.

Is the Prada somehow superior to the 4Runner in off roading? What are the differences?

The differences depend on the market. In the Middle East the Prado comes with the 1GR-FE engine standard (as does the 300 series Land Cruiser) but that engine isn't offered in the Prado in Australia.

The main difference between the Prado in the Middle East and the 4Runner is cosmetic: body panels, rear door, glass, interior stuff, trim and whatnot. The part numbers are identical for hubs, shocks, rear axle assembly, frame etc.

I think vehicle operations in Middle East is the true hard core test in a harsh environment. I’d like to see how the new Bronco would fair over there. Maybe it’s already there or maybe it’s not available.

With the long term popularity and following with the 4R, Toyota engineers probably know they will only get one shot at making the 6th generation "right".

They only have one shot at getting every 'gen' right. Because if they have to redo it, it becomes a new gen. :)

The more I think about it, I think it would just be better for toyota to keep making the 5th gen.

If they want a 6th gen for marketing purposes, just change the headlights and tail lights to a simple design to give it a more utilitarian look, and fix the needle bearing design. And a longer roof rack.

Maybe, big maybe…a new transmission…but not a clean sheet design…rather something tha’s already been around for a long time. And a manual option. I think that’s it :D
