So are we getting the 6th gen in 2023 model year? I am nervous because I am running out of time fast. I want a 5th gen 2022 from the factory. When do you guys think Toyota will stop accepting orders for 2022s? July 2022?

How to ask Toyota? Do they have an 1-800 number? :p

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. But Toyota doesn’t leak info. It’s unlikely you’ll know before real automotive journalists through office press releases.

Ya NO by the time all the cool mods are available I would miss living with my current 4RNR. Plus I don't like to visit the dealer that much ( new gen quirks and fixes ) ;):hattip:

Maybe this time you can order what you want and wait for it to show up in 2023 !!

That thought crossed my mind !

You are 100% correct. We're going to have a confirmed Tacoma probably summer of '23 and then the summer of '24 we'll see something about a new 4Runner. Just my guess tho

I don’t think Toyota will want to miss out on sales so GX and 4Runner will likely be carry over again for 24MY. It won’t have Toyota’s new audio software again and another damn price hike. I sure hope I’m wrong.

    Yup

This sounds like what I have heard. It would be a late production model for the '24 model year.

It sounds like the 6th gen should debut in '24, but as a '24 model year. But, who knows at this point? :notsure:

I almost hesitated to buy my '19 because I thought the 6th gen would come in 2020!

At the moment, the earliest known production date for the 6th gen is scheduled to start in Quarter 1 of 2024 at Toyota's Guanajuato Plant. If this is in fact the first run of them, they could come in Feb/March/April 2024 as a 2024 1/2 model year.

It could also easily be pushed back to a July/August 2024 start time so they are introduced as a 2025 model year.

It's possible that Tahara has an early run of them in July/August 2023 so that they come out as a 2024 Model Year but there is literally no credible evidence out there at the moment suggesting this will happen. That could change.

They probably have to get everything set up first in Mexico to build it which is going to take a long time

They started building the Guanajuato plant in 2015 or 2016 specifically intending for it to pump out vehicles using their new TGNA platform.

It opened in 2019 and it only produces Tacoma's so far.

So the tooling is up and running for the Tacoma........which will eventually share the TGNA-F platform with the 6th gen 4Runner.

What I've heard is taking so long with the 6th gen is a last minute decision to change the way the hybrid system works.

I just think quality coming out of Japan is superior to other sites from what I have read and in my past experience.

The 3rd gen (turd gen) taco has its list of issues, but nothing specific to the Mexico plant.

No, there are a few that complain loudly and consistently, but overall in my experience, and opinion, they are very well made. Super white still sucks, and if you aim the engine at the moon the valve cover will fill with oil and smoke, if you keep on, it will destroy the engine.

I just hope they do not mess it up like Ford did the Bronco.

If it’s a whole new vehicle, engine, tranny etc and a new plant, new employees gosh that could be a mess.

No sir. I sold them in second gen, but I never owned one. I do think the second gen is the best, but the third gen is by no stretch of the imagination unreliable.

    Yes and no.

The 2.4L turbo and trans are already being used in the NX and now the Highlander. By the time the 6th gen comes out, we'll have a few years of data on this motor/trans combo.

The frame is the same across all the new framed vehicles Toyota makes worldwide, just cut to fit.

As said earlier, the plant has been building Tacoma's since 2019, but yes, first time a 4Runner will be built there.

What will be most interesting to me is how the new hybrid system works.

I for sure miss my 2009 AC SR taco, even though I really liked my 2017, I wasn’t upset to get rid of it. The leaking 3rd brake light and fighting to get them to cover it, and the gas door that was falling off its hinges that they wouldn’t fix, all under 50k, and I enjoyed driving the 4 cylinder way more than the v6 sport.

I would still recommend a Tacoma, I just don’t think they are what they once were.
