I agree with this. The first 100-200 miles should be at varying engine RPM’s.
20 minutes on the highway and then take an exit.
2 minutes at a red light and then a few miles of in town traffic.
Back on the highway for a bit, exit for a burger and fries to get rid of that new car out gas smell.
Fart a couple times. Find a slow speed country road for shift on the fly 4 high, gear mashing for a bit too.

When do you recommend first oil change? Synthetic or conventional?

So I have access to this “national benefits program” that helps military, first responders, etc with mortgages and vehicle purchasing. Basically they try and negotiate vehicle as close to invoice as possible.

Long story short.....after all fees and NY state taxes (8.87%), with a moonroof (which I wanted), floor mats (I wanted) rear sliding cargo deck (I didn’t care about nor wanted honestly), and this ToyotaGuard Platinum which they really weren’t budging on with the discount they already gave me:

I am out the door at 45,600

I'm in Charlotte was out the door with EXACTLY that package for $2k less than that. You might want to shop around a little more. At least don't drive as far as Charleston, just come to Charlotte!

But what are the taxes you pay down there? I cannot avoid the $3600 I have to pay in NY state taxes. Otherwise I’d be out the door at like 42K

My taxes looked to have been $1270. So right at $42 without that, about the same deal then. Damn, now I guess I see why NC is getting flooded with New Yorkers. o_O

Yeah it is absolutely disgusting. Like, I am sick to my stomach about it. I simply love my career too much up here to leave.

Not necessarily a recommendation but, this is what I did.
Ours had 3 miles on the clock. My Wife and I took a 2 hour drive to get home, normally a 30 minute drive.
We drove around on city streets for awhile, hit the freeway for a bit, took an exit near a Vatozone.
Bought 7 qts. of Mobil Syn. and a filter. Drove around some more and engaged 4 high on straight slow speed roads. Got home and read the owners manual for stereo and nav junk. Next day I changed the oil at around a hundred miles. Then we let the dealer do “free” change for the next 7 changes. I also took my skid plates off so they wouldn’t cross thread and impact the bolts back on.
Oh and the last dealer oil change, I made sure that the plastic filter housing wasn’t cranked on too tight, which it was. Fuckers. I got Syn oil and a filter for the next for the next change at 80k that I’ll be doing myself from now on.

I do all my own service so I'm not sure if it's worth my time to take it to the stealership for my free changes. But just rolled 100miles on the clock today so I may change the oil tonight or tomorrow. Thanks.

You'll be totally fine. Don't give it another thought.

And I would way rather drive it home myself than pay to have it shipped. I'd be much more worried about shipping damage than I would about running the engine at a constant speed for whatever number of miles.

No sunroof and I paid just over $40,000 for my TRD Off-Road Premium. I walked into the dealership with a competing dealers ad and they matched the price.

$40K out the door? I did the same thing, had them beat another offer.

I did add a few extras, the 40k was the price without the extras.

Seems like you did about as well as you could then. My price was $41009 + Tax etc. but has $900 more options than you got (moonroof and cargo slider). Well done.

I could have gotten out the door at 42K or so if I didn’t have the $3,600 in NY state taxes

Are you guys really basically paying only a few hundred in taxes to get out the door for those prices? Lol it is so hard for me to comprehend this notion. I am institutionalized from being in this goddamn state so long.

My taxes in NC are 3% on vehicles, so I paid about $1200 in tax.

Taxes for me was about $2500. I also put $500 down plus trade which brought it down to $38000. They gave me $12500 for trade but they have my old car priced at $17500.

I am amazed that some of you guys got out the door in the 40K range. I’ve seen the factory invoice they get these vehicles at and it’s right around there. They’re selling em for zero profit for the dealership you’re sayin? Or even at a loss?

I am genuinely asking, and not being a wise-guy. I am new to this world, honestly.

No idea. I paid cash, but I dont know if that matters, prob hurts if anything since they don't get any finance kickbacks. I did negotiate pretty hard but was surprised I got them that low.

Well you were at least at the 42K range before you paid your taxes. I am more curious about these other fellas sayin they’re out the door after everything in the 40K range. Unless I read it wrong...

You don’t need to worry so much about that initial oil change. Decades ago maybe you had to worry about machining debris and metallic pieces floating around the oil. Not so much now. And that’s what an oil filter is for. The oil chemistry itself is engineered to last for thousands of miles. The standard OCI now is 10,000. From what I’ve seen posted on forums most folks change oil anywhere from 5000 to 10,000 miles, 7500 about average, depending on the use (towing, RTTs, dust, lots of off-road, etc).
Even the most OCD folks run the truck for 1000 miles or so before their first oil change. And I’ve never read if any of them actually examine their oil filter media to see if it had captured any metal bits.

There are still metals suspended in the oil, finer than the filter can catch. I’m going to do it tonight since I just rolled 100 miles. May do it again at 500 then switch to synthetic and resume my normal 10k schedule

Invoice for the ‘21 ORP seems to be right around 40K, give or take a couple hundred. Well done on negotiating that on your own, that’s impressive. Like I was sayin, I am brand new to dealing with these snakes.

Drove mine 6 hours home (all freeway miles) after I picked it up at the dealership.

    Blew the motor at 20k.

    Nah, just fukkin with ya.

    You'll be fine.

By the way, I don't think dealers are showing you their actual invoice price. They keep that info pretty closely guarded. A lot of them say they are showing you the invoice price and then show some other made up price. I doubt they are paying $40k invoice. I think it's less. No proof, just suspicion. :spy:
