I think I may have found the ‘21 ORP I am after for a decent price. However it is located in Charleston, SC and I live in NY.

Someone at work mentioned that it’s not necessarily great to immediately drive a new vehicle such a long distance. In terms of breaking in the engine. Anybody have any insight into this regarding 4Runners? It’s always something, man lol.

Charleston, NC? You sure you don't mean SC? You will be fine. Lots of people do that but if you are that worried, you can always pay to have it shipped to you.

Edited it, thank you. That’s what I meant lol.

And I am not worried really no. Simply throwing out the question in case there was any merit to that school of thought.

There's something in the manual about not keeping steady RPM's for a prolonged period. Just vary your speed every once in awhile, and maybe drop it into S4 for a few minutes periodically (preferably at lower speeds, not at 80:D).

Depending how far you're going, you could take back-roads home. This might be a bit easier on it if you're concerned. Plus, it could be a nice road trip.

Sounds like a good deal. One thing you may not realize is that South Carolina limits many dealer fees to about $225. Georgia did this as well. People should take note of that when comparing prices state to state. https://scada.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Closing-Fees.pdf

I think you'll be just fine, it is a Toyota after all. If you want to be super cautious you could always change the oil once you put a thousand miles on it, when you get home.

Side note: if you're down there you might as well enjoy some she-crab soup because it's fantastic.

I suppose I could have read your original post more thoroughly.

Still, I wouldn't be worried. Between changing up the speed, and stopping periodically for fuel, etc, you should be fine.

    Enjoy your road trip!

Post pics once you get it. :)

Take the back roads so you can enjoy the ride and vary the speed. You can also find some muddy and slushy dirt mountain tracks to break in the 4wd low.
Now you have a good explanation for getting back to work a bit late...

    Btw, the taxes:

    If I was a SC resident - $500 flat

But as a New Yorker - 8.8% so about $3,600 or so

What the fuck is wrong with me for still living here. I am absolutely disgusted.

I'm not exactly right across the river in NJ, but I'm still pretty close, and I wonder this often.

I say the same thing about living in Northern CA. Just as bad as NY, if not worse. If it wasn’t for my family responsibilities, CA would be in my rear view mirror long ago.

@Michael8282 Ouch, BTW alot of NYers have moved here. I see the plates and moving trucks all the time. My in laws all from NY as well. They got tired of the taxes too. (and the weather).

Yes, the soup is a staple. If made properly it should be made with sherry. Also some great breweries & distilleres there if you have the time. If not, just grab some beer at the grocery store.

Here is a pic of what great she crab should look like from our trip to Pawleys Island last week. It should be impossible to get a spoonful without crab if sufficiently added.

This is ironic. I love in Charleston and happen to have family in town from NY right now. They fly out today. Maybe they can drive a runner instead

Right now my number one place I’d recommend to eat is Lewis’s bbq- amazing brisket.
For seafood I recommend hanks seafood and fleet landing.
I’ll have to look back at what dealer you were in talks With. I’ve always dealt woth Fred Anderson Toyota. Bought 5-6 trucks there now. They’re on par for typical dealer shenanigans but are less shady than some lol

@scottalot I had heard Hanks was great. Need to get there. Love the shrimp and crab and shrimp rice entrees at Hannibals, if youre willing to get off the beaten path. The restaurant is a hole in the wall, but locals love it.

That’s actually pretty ideal. Buy it new, driven it far at varying speeds and RPM, Highway for a bit at 55, 70, use S mode to vary the gear and speeds, get off the highway and take the scenic route for a while. Turn it into a 500+ mile route then come home and change engine, diffs, and t-case oils.

they’re a big franchise- pretty decent to deal with too

it’s awesome and the prices reflect that haha
I haven’t been the Hannibals.. we make our own stuff most the time. Buying fresh off the boats at Shem creek or cherry point is the ticket
