My truck is currently quite new, only 1300 km but, I'm running it with stock size Toyo at3 E rated, my average since last fill up which is mostly city driving is 13.8L/100km which is about 17mpg. The best I got on a +/- 1 hour trip on curvy roads at an average of 80-85 km/h is 9.6 L/100... So honestly.. it's not AS bad as I thought

    bone stock for now

I get 14 MPG at 40MPH and I get 14 MPG doing 85MPH. I am not stomping on the gas pedal or driving crazy. Lucky for me I didn't buy this great 4Runner to get good MPG but I sure have to call BS on 80% of these post claiming these super high MPG.

Some posts here: 45mph is not really highway. Highway means 65-75. I bet you those with 24mpg won’t get even close doing 70mph.
It’s unrealistic to post such pics when 99% of the driving is outside those conditions.
I’ll tell you what though. My 2019 Ram 1500 hemi 8 speed crew cab with 20” got better mpg overall.

    Lol, ok..

I once got 21.4 MPG with a roof rack and loaded with gear by cruising at ~67 MPH. On the drive home from that trip I got 16 MPG by cruising at 80+. Conditions were similar.

Cruising speed can have a huge impact on your fuel economy. If everything else is the same, you'll definitely get better mileage at 65 than you will at 80.

Edit:. Don't get me wrong. Nobody's ever going to average 23 miles per gallon unless they are very conscientious about how they drive.

Yes, it does! I actually tested this earlier in the summer. I drove the same route at the same speed in similar conditions on two consecutive days. On the second day, I removed the roof basket before I left. My fuel economy increased by 10% the second day.

55 is the limit on the highways in my area. So, highway is 55 to 65 mph. Any of the good numbers I have posted have been between 60 and 70 mph. I don't always get that kind of mileage, because I don't always have time to take the back roads, though.

I didn't but the runner for mpg's, but I'm finding it hard to even get close to 14 unless I'm towing my boat, even then it's still above 14

I got over 24 MPG exactly once. It was the first year I owned the 4Runner, 2019, and it was completely stock right down to the Bridgestone highway tires. I was coming back from upstate New York, it was a 435 mi trip.

I think I had ideal conditions for this trip. The temperature was nice, so I wasn't running the AC very much, there was little to no traffic, I think I was losing elevation coming back from NY, so I wasn't constantly climbing hills, and it could be that I did have a tailwind. I also stayed between 65 and 70mph.

I thought I was going to have to stop for gas, however I kept watching my distance to empty actually increase compared to the miles traveled. So I figured I'd how see how far I could go. Well I made it back, which was a distance of 435 mi as indicated by the tripmeter, and when I pulled into the gas station at home I was still showing 65 miles DTE. I did the calculation, and I'd averaged 24.6.

That's the only time I ever got above 24. I wouldn't count short little 15 or 20 mile trips as that, that's just silly. I just go by the full tank. Typically though, I'm in the 20 MPG range, my last two around 19.8 because I did a little bit more driving around town, the previous tank was 20.5. I haven't reset my readout on the dash, over the last 60,000 miles it's reading 20.1.

I'm heading up to Vermont tomorrow, I'm thinking I'll probably get between 21 and 22. Once I get there I'm going to do some off-roading, so that tank will probably be a good bit lower.

I think I get decent mileage with this thing because I tend to drive it a steady speed, and don't even try to accelerate briskly. Even foot to the floor it's slow, so I feel like why bother? Plus I absolutely hate the sound of this engine, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me, so I hate to hear it rev up. Rather than trying to race traffic to get ahead of it, I just wait for an opening to fall in behind traffic. I use cruise control frequently, except in hilly terrain, then I'll accelerate downhill, and kind of coast up the other side. I also anticipate traffic lights, so rather than floor it to the light and then jack up on the brakes, I just coast to the red light, and usually it turns green before I actually have to stop. All those little things like that help to get good MPG. Yeah, sometimes it's boring driving like that, but I kind of look at it as a game.

My average since new is 18.4 mpg with 1300 miles or so on the clock. The range usually shows like 387 miles, but this last fill was only 36x. Not sure why, but I don't worry too much about the miles till empty, because that is predictive based on what algorithm? I just always try to drive smart and practice good pedal handling.

@canadian.bacon, That particular trip was about 4 miles city to the highway, 20 miles highway staying close to 65-70 as I could, accelerating enough on the downhills to carry speed up the inclines without needing to downshift. Another mile off highway at the end of the trip. 36 lbs of pressure on all 4 corners (which is too low for the E rated ko2's), sprint boost set to sport 8, with the roof window "up" and the back window dawn a quarter. The highway follows the coast and admittedly gives and takes little in terms of elevation. It shows 45 mph average or whatever it was because I also had been driving off highway

I have noticed the fuel calculations on this truck are very accurate if not slightly pessimistic compared to doing the math at the pump. I normally reset the AVG MPG every time I fuel up.

Last long trip was 1600 miles, Maine to North Carolina. Loaded truck, stock tires size, roof basket and awning. I was up around 19.8 MPG for the whole trip, saw as high as 22 MPG.

I haven't reset the tripometer since I bought 'er new in Sept. 2021. Mostly longer highway trips, one 300 mile trip to a western VA mountain lake hauling our boat, and a couple of other more local boat-hauling trips. It's all stock, and I tend to drive like a granny, but not under the speed limit.

Took this about a week ago.

I see this high milage all the time on my new 2022 stock 4-Runner offroad and I don't believe it for a minute. I come from motorcycles where the milage is total crap all the time. The only way to truly see the milage is to calculate which I have been too lazy lately to do.

When you do get around to calculating, you'll find that the computer is fairly accurate. Most people won't average over 20 MPG, but it's entirely possible in the right scenario.

My wife’s SR5P 2020 once got 24.1 on 400 trip going less than 70mph. I have a 22SR5P also and averaged 21.5 on 60 trips at 60-70 mph. I did not buy either for the mpg but if you drive easy I get consistent mileage, both are stock.

All highway on my trip from Steamboat Springs to Denver today, but a bit slow going on both sides of the Eisenhower tunnel. Extremely impressed by the mileage given I was fully loaded for camping including a rooftop tent, lift, skids, sliders, and Wildpeak AT’s.

I get about 13.5mpg on stock 17 cruising at 65mph. I am not even loaded up. Only weight is a winch and maybe 30lbs on the roof (total weight with after market rack, solar panel, and 2 maxtrax boards). I want to know the secret to getting over 20mpg other than cruising down hill.

    Westcott Sliders. Gobi no rise
    9h, 484 miles road trip, 20 mpg
A little bit of everything. Highway at 70-75mph, surface roads at 45-55mph, forest road, light off roading, stop on the side to figure out directions, etc…

2 adults, 2 dogs, trunk fully loaded with camping gear, mountain bike, awning, Gobi roof rack. I did not once try to conserve gas or get good mpg so overall very happy!
