Actually, my bad. I took a second look at the photo, it's actually the short wheel base version, so it's the same size as a Tahoe.

I don't know what was in their mind, when you reach that kind of price range, freaking hundred thirty thousand dollars, you have to be really competitive. And they have turbos now, so I don't know why people will go for them, I mean a Lincoln Navigator is a Ford, Fird is pretty good with their turbos. Honestly speaking, I would buy a loaded Lincoln Navigator instead of that Lexus. The luxury features of the Navigator are insane, I think Ford is very determined to kill the Escalade

Yes, that makes sense, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, and LX have the same length as the Tahoe. So you mean that Lexus does not want to increase the length of the LX otherwise the off-roading capability will be compromised, right?

Yeah, I think that's an accurate statement. It's funny, if they did make a long wheelbase version the size of a suburban, I bet it would probably sell like crazy. But you're right, that long wheelbase makes for a pretty long break over angle, which would be worse for off-road capability.

For the LX it is understandable because it is a Land Cruiser and it is a status symbol, and we are also not having Land Cruisers anymore, so rich people will buy them. But Toyota is not even doing that on the Sequoia, they could have made it longer and competed with the ultimate people hauler, the Suburban. But no. In fact this new Sequoia has a TRD Pro as well, with the rear Locker :D

Speaking of ultimate people haulers, Ford used to make this gigantic SUV that was even longer than the current Suburban. I can't recall the name, but man that thing was gigantic

Excursion. It was essentially a SUV body on an F250 chassis. It was bigger than the Suburban, and more truck-like. It wasn't even rated for fuel economy, because its size and weight exempted it from having to be EPA rated.

Nice ones with the 7.3L diesel are still over 30 grand, easy.

They weigh like 7000 lbs! I would think the diesel would get somewhat reasonable mileage. But, the gassers probably got like 9.

Might be a cool overland build.

Yeah, there are a few overland builds. I follow a dude on Instagram that has one built up on 37s, and the Fullsize Invasion page occasionally features them. When you think about it, the mileage isn't even that bad. I think I read recently that unloaded, the 6.8 V10 gets about 11 or 12. When you consider a built up 4Runner gets about 12 or 13, it's really not bad considering the size difference haha.

I'm not sure what the diesels get, it's kind of hard to tell because so many of them are modded now. I know the 7.3 is a desirable one, the later ones had the 6.0 diesel, which even I know not to touch with a 10-ft pole, lol.

not sure about the Suburban but I think I paid ~$20,000 in 1991 for a base-model Chevy Blazer

I have had few land cruisers , just sold the 2019 LC200 but still have a 2020 Heritage … I never paid more than 78k for any of my LC200’s I have had 4 of them . I gave the wife my 2019 LC200 when the Heritage came in , was a January of 2019 just before covid kicked in , Jan / Feb was allways a good couple months after the holidays I allways got great deals because it was the slow time for car dealers when times were normal .
I gave the wife the 2019 and she rather drive the BMW so the 2019 sat for 10 months and with the insane prices the LC200’s were bringing I got 96k for mins plus the tax credit , I took another vehicle and a big check .
I still like my 2020 Heritage 200 , I just picked up a 2022 Pro 4R and like that truck just as much or more , the 4runners are a great value even though the prices are up .
My complain with the LC200’s they have gone so far away from the basic Land cruiser , perfect example is the heater blower control , you must use the touch screen and scroll into climate area to fine the screen … OMG I hate that , should have its own knob or button .
Enjoy your 4runner … LC 200’s are nice and over priced

@4wheelgreg , the ONLY thing I'm envious about the 200 is the 5.7L. I really dislike the 4.0 in the Runner, I'd LOVE to have the V8 instead.

The 5.7 was great , I have that motor in Tundras in the past with Superchargers was awesome power but no replacement for a Diesel truck . The 8 speed transmission was pretty good but had weird shift points , I was not a big fan of that trans .
Even my 2020 Heritage shifts weird and if your driving and then pull into a spot when putting the LC 200 into park the trans has a weird Lurch going into park .
Even in the Heritage platform you still have to sink 20k into it to make it a little more off-road capable / more invincible … , Bumpers , sliders , lift and you limited with KDSS , then by that time your need to do a Tundra long arm conversion to get any real 35’s unless you got LX570 then no KDSS but then you got the ugly front end .
I have owned a lot of vehicles , LC 200 is a great over engineered vehicle but not worth over 80k .
You could add a Magunson Supercharger to the 4runner , really wakes up the suv , only negative is you must run high octane fuel .

Jeep CJ was around $6k in 1978. I think my mother bought the last of the original style 280Z for $9k that year. A 911 was closer to $25k.

I bought my freind's 2000 SR5 4Runner. It has 161,600 miles on it. He was a mechanic and did valve cover gaskets and general maintenance. He was a used car dealer, bought it for a customer then in 2010 got it back and kept it after that. He would have taken to Arizona but it is not 4 wheel drive. Still looks and drives like new and for $6500.00, how could I say no? My first Toyota was a 1986 pick up with the bullet proof 22R motor.. I have owned 4 Lexus and a few Toyotas. You can't kill them.

I really love that body style! They used one in a teeny bopper show we watched years ago called "The OC". Sadly, they crashed it!

I thought there were superchargers or turbo kits for some of the old F series engines. Personally, I'd take an I6 over a V8 any day.

The 2F engine in the fj-60's is basically a tractor engine, 140 hp(?). Our here, I'd like a few more ponies and fuel injection to deal with the altitude. It's a heavy truck with not much power, but man, what a great truck! I'd love to have the split tailgate from the 60 on my runner...

I did some research on land cruiser pricing, and basically, the 90's is when Toyota jacked it sky high. Started the decade around $18k, by 1999, it was $48k. The FJ80 is a great truck, but, a luxo-barge compared to the 60/62. I had an opportunity to buy an HJ62 from Canada with the diesel, but, couldn't register it in California.

While I know how bad the air was in Los Angeles before CARB was created in the late 60's, I also hate CARB for its lack of flexibility.
