Jeep can build a short wheelbase 2 door gladiator, but since most of their customers are middle-aged women, they really don’t want to.

This doesn't look bad, but in all fairness, the demographic would be small for this truck. That might make it more expensive than it's worh in order for Jeep to make up for low volumes.

I'll consider the a Wildtrack Bronco if Toyota refuses to address the archaic powertrain in the 4runner or decides we're better suited for a 4cyl turbo for the 6th gen. Unfortunately, this seems likely. The 4.0 with an 8spd or completely new v6/I6 and an 8spd would both be fine. Pretty sure neither are happening. Dont even get me started on the 6spd and 3.5 in the taco.. as others have mentioned, hoping the Bronco breeds some competitive behavior from Toyota.

I’m good with the ancient 4.0 and the 5 speed transmission. Proven reliability.

If only Toyota had a bunch of V8 engines with the same proven reliability and 6 and 8 automatic transmissions, but unfortunately they don’t.

I do have a GX with the 4.6 and a 6 speed that’s pretty reliable. Glad I picked it up for cheap.

It hasn't seemed to work the other way around, meaning Toyota's reliability hasn't caused Ford vehicles to become more reliable. At least, so I hear, because I don't own any Fords.

Hear, hear. It seems that Toyota reliability has become so expected that it's no longer a consideration when comparing to other vehicles - at least for some people. Rather, things that Toyota DOESN'T offer are brought up for comparison. But I say, you need to flip the argument if you're going to play fair. Ok, the 4Runner's powertrain is 'archaic'. But, it runs without breaking. Ford has cool 10-speed transmissions (or what have you). But, they don't go 400,000 miles. You just need to pick what's important to you.

Ah Jesus...Going in on Thursday to convert my reservation into an order and starting to second guess my build a bit. Thought I had it locked in, but, now I'm waffling a bit. Either way, it'll probably be around '23 when I finally get the thing. *laughs*

Saw this at a dealership on a parts run this afternoon. I have to say, other than the headlights and cheap looking fender flares, they pretty much nailed it.

Have seen two or three around here and was not impressed. This one you posted though looks pretty cool.
I know a guy on another forum who recently bought one. I'll have to ask him how he's liking it so far.

Are you seeing the Bronco, or the Sport? The sport looks like a Jeep Renegade humped a Range Rover.

Anyone know what the residual value will be for a Bronco vs 4Runner? My money is on 4Runner and I come from a family that worked for Ford. I got burned too many times by them and they could care less if you come from a Ford family. Unfortunately they and I am sure other car manufacturer's assume if your family works for them that you are brand loyal.

People say oh you can get the "employee discount", but if they do their research they will find that the employee pricing is within a few hundred dollars of what you negotiate with at most dealers. Granted it is easier not to have to negotiate but why not buy what you want, what retains value better, and what suits your needs.

In my case, I’ve seen several Sport ones. This one looks like a Sport with big tires and fender flares. So do they share the body?

I don't think the Sport sits on full frame and it is made in Mexico with Ford Maverick baby pickup. Where as the regular "larger" Bronco will be built in Wayne Michigan along side the Ranger pickup

I can’t imagine that anyone knows residual value of a Bronco, since almost zero used ones exist. As for me personally, I typically buy a vehicle and drive it into the ground, so residual value doesn’t matter to me so much. I do understand it matters to those who upgrade every several years though.

Gotcha. I’m not up on the Bronco details. But in pics, aside from the wheels and flares, they look very similar.

I agree I normally keep them a long time also but I like the idea of higher % in the event I need to get rid of it (why not try to get back more of your money). I found these residuals online.....not sure how accurate they are but not impressive.

Agreed. Like, my 2019 is worth more than I paid for it, lol. That’s nice to have in your back pocket even if you don’t plan to use it. Maybe they’re thinking the demographic for the Bronco won’t support or buy a large population of used ones.

Not sure. Have passed them in traffic, so not enough time to look. They DID look pretty common and un-interesting though.

I don't know, for me personally I had enough issues with Ford vehicles, no support from dealers, or the company and I contacted some people fairly high up. I was very disappointed and was loyal for many years.

So for myself I decided on the 4R from a size perspective, full frame, reliability, residual value, and towing capacity. Hopefully it was a wise decision.

It used to be in Detroit that it was frowned upon to drive a non Big 3 nameplate but not anymore, things change. There are still some old timers who say "buy American" but all of the big 3 build and sell vehicles made outside of the USA anyway. Buick I think only has the Enclave made in the states and the rest of the Buick lineup is made in China and imported. Obviously parts are sourced from all over the globe now.

The actual Bronco is much larger. The one in my picture had 35" tires.

I do like the 2 door.
As I think I said in an earlier post, I would love to see a 2 door 4Runner. Given the shorter wheelbase, think of the possibilities and capabilities! Add 4Runner styling, and I know it would be very cool!!

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
How much more expensive-looking do the fender flares need to be?

Maybe it's not a matter of cheap looking as it is a matter of ugly. :notsure:

My '03 SR5 had plastic cladding around the wheel wells, and I never thought it looked bad. The plastic on the Bronco looks like an afterthought. Just my opinion, though.

Doesn't help that it looks like the fender flares on the Bronco are going to be extremely easy to steal or lose as well. Just a few simple turns of some latches and boom! They pop right off.

That being said, I still dig it and I placed an order for a 2dr Wildtrak (or at least I HOPE they changed my order over to the Wildtrak from my original choice) just holding out for the MY22 options before finalizing the order.

The fender flares really bother me too.

They look like a total afterthought.......like they took the Bronco Sport, slapped it on a bigger frame and added those flares.

What they should have done is widened the body to match the track width. Or better yet, flare the front/rear fenders like the Raptor.

Raptor-Bronco would have doubled their sales.
