Do you think it’s “easier” or simpler to convert from the limited bumper straight to sr5/c4 low pro?

the Sr5 bumper requires a different crash bar then the one the limited has. but if your doing the C4 lo pro, it replaces the Sr5 crash bar.

so yes, it’s simpler to go from limited straight to the Sr5 w/c4.

but you’ll still need to trim the radiator deflectors and fender liners. Also replace the upper grille and add the heritage grille.

Do you mind sharing the link to these? Wouldn't plastidipping the handles cause the sensor to not work anymore?

I didn’t have any issues with the smart handles after plastic dipping them. I only dipped the visible area which was exposed by the covers. I wanted the double sided tape to stick to the chrome.

@Daytonaviolet would you be willing to re-link that parts list you posted back in 2020 (original goggle drive link says it's in your trash)? I need to do the bumper swap and I'd love to make sure I have everything covered. Thank you!!!

Thanks, I will. I bought some SCS Ray10's and had them put on some Falken Wildpeak AT3's as the first upgrade. I had some significant rubbing on the inside of the wheel well from the plastic flashing. So the bumper replacement has become the next priority. Priced it out from my local dealer and it's about $2600 worth of parts, so I understand now that it takes a lot to "change up" the Limited.

    @Daytonaviolet
I’ve recently embarked on my quest/search/prep to transition in to hopefully the best of all 4Runner options. because I love my interior but walking to my car I just cringe knowing all that chrome is all me, among some other deformities of the limited body.

And the number of windows I’ve opened would give most peeps anxiety just seeing the tabs.
But then I found nuggets like these..
All your posts and responses are  Invaluable to my journey.

You’ve probably been asked these questions a million times already, and if your answer is “find the threads” then hakuna matata. I just wanted to mainly say thanks for how open and communicative you’ve been… all over this site! Threads with replies or references to @Daytonaviolet everywhere..super awesome way to be man.

so, below, question #1, If you’re feeling quite generous any info to #1 is very much valued and appreciated.
However question #2 is currently top priority/task at hand/main focus, for me. So feel free to skip through as it pertains specifically to this thread/topic

    #1
I had to retire XREAS And replaced with bilsteins 5100’s, but raised only 1.5”/.5” and did not yet install rear springs. Though after seeing how darn glorious all these lifted Limiteds are, I’m inspired to throw the springs on and crank it.. glad I haven’t replaced my tires yet!
so because I raised so little, I still have OEM peripherals. At what point should I be swapping OEM for better suited parts like control arms, diff drop, extended brake line.. etc, swaybar? To give the systems best chance for a long life. It’s a daily driver, not much extreme terrain besides 2-4 hour drives up to mountains, off highway mud or dirt fun closer to the camp/ fish sites @ outskirts of mountain town (mainly Mammoth CA, 3X-6X/year) and minor mush, no rock crawling, also towing toys up to < 2 tons) just wanting to provide a lot of detail, as purpose typically directs considerations..

If you’ve made it this far thank you for your time and patience
    #2
Honestly, and in as much or little detail as you’d like, I know I’ll be taking this one bite at a time starting with the front bumper as long as I can find all necessary parts, any tips or pointers suggestions on things you’d have liked to know before starting. I know you’ve said repeatedly that you sourced all the parts over a long period of time and numerous sources. But on the retail side, are there any sites or vendors you would recommend? It seems that your motivations for the specific modifications you made align very similarly to mine. Daily driver, no need to go crazy with too much added weight for the time being, love the luxurious inside, want the defining features of TRD pro. I know I’m not giving you really specific questions to work with but from the looks of it I am getting ready to wade into a rabbit hole. And for me a lot of the questions really don’t start popping up until I am fully in it. If that’s not enough to go off of I totally understand. But if you feel like dropping some knowledge I would appreciate it very much. I’ve screenshotted your excel spreadsheet of parts for front bumper, that’s going to be a generalized template to start chipping away at and then I’ll just keep going from there!

welcome to your limited to trd trasnformation journey :) i'll try to answer questions best as i can.

I still have OEM peripherals. At what point should I be swapping OEM for better suited parts like control arms, diff drop, extended brake line.. etc, swaybar?

control arms - i would change them if your tire size is larger then stock and you cant get proper alignment. after market arms will give you more caster. so up sizing the tires will require more caster so you can clear the mudflaps and or body mount area.

diff drop - i would change them if your lift is 2" or more. Some folks say its not needed, but i did it because i'm more like 3+" lift up front.

brake line - i didnt change mine as i had plenty of length. but it would not hurt to change them if you want more slack.

sway bar - i didnt change mine yet, but i believe the limited and 2wd have the thinnest sway bars. trdor and trd pro are the same. trdor w/kdss has the thickest.

    #2
as for the limited --> trd bumper conversion, i pretty much purchased everything new except the crash bar. you take a look at my spreadsheet, i've highlight which items can be re-used and or need to be purchased. i purchased all the new items at my local toyota dealerships parts. i ordered them online and picked them up. it was cheaper to buy online rather then at the parts counter.

let me know if you have more questions :)

@Daytonaviolet sweet thank you for the quick response! It seems that straight from dealer local is the way to go. I’m seeing some peoples mods they’re just cutting in to body to make compatible adjustments. I really didn’t want to get in to that…

but with your list, through out the process, you didn’t have to do any of that right? Just all clean parts swap?
I tried clicking the link and it says that file is in your trash. Would you mind unburying it for a minute? So I can googles sheets my own ? =] thanks again

I went with matte black options
hoping they have it as professional a “velvet” matte finish one could hope for. If they Arrive looking like I just spray painted black, probably going to dip em

@Daytonaviolet .... Nice looking 5th Gen. I love the blizzard pearl on the limited. I debated long and hard between a ORP or a limited.

Glad to see you on here. Seeing what you did on your previous cars, I'd love to see what you'd do to this one too. Did you get rid of your e46 m3 and your porsche GT3?

hey is that same username from M3Forum’s? Sounds familiar :)

e46 csl whoore and gt3 is long gone but not forgotten. Currently in my stable is f85 X5m and soon to be MS Plaid.

Do you still have your m3 ?

yep, same user from m3forum. I’ve always loved your e46!! That thing was a classic. Been away from the euro scene for 5-6 years. Sold my M3 3-4 years ago. Just have a bone stock F10 535i and my 2 4runners now. Still miss it though! At least I’ll still get to see your build on this beast!

I just noticed... all your cars are white!! Even your previous ones.. My driveway is full of white cars itself. My F10, my 4th gen, my 5th gen, my daily ILX and my previously sold e46 and tundra.

Here’s my latest mod, Detours of Maine Ridge Runner. I need to figure out a bracket for my 1080p rear camera. Also need to buy a new tire.

Great work on flipping the script from Limited to PRO! We have the same vehicle (limited). Question - I want to level the truck. I reached out to a shop about installing Bilsteins and eibach springs. The shop declined the work because they were concerned about removing the X-REAS system creating problems with Toyota's onboard computer. ? Does anyone have input on this please help. Thanks

Actual the emblem says “TRD Bro” :). But currently I have no emblems.

as far as xreas, there’s no connection from the suspension to the on board computer. i think you need to find another shop. Besides when you remove the xreas, it’s just tubes and reservoirs. Nothing electrical except then take sensors.
