Before this entire supply chain issue was cranked into high gear, Toyota was planning on selling the turbocharged Gazoo Yaris rally car in the US.

Toyota also needs to stop this Supra nonsense, and make zippy Corollas instead.

Well, the old Supras were awesome! Unfortunately, Toyota refuses to make a sports car on their own anymore. I know Yamaha helped with engines over the years, but that is different than outsourcing the whole thing, IMO.

Nowadays, if you want a Toyota made sports car, you have to buy a Lexus.

Yeah the old ones were good, but this new Supra is a BMW, and I think even the old one was a Subaru. Was there a time that Supra was originally Toyota's product?
What I want from Toyota is these little zippy city cars that they are perfectly capable of making. New Corolla hatchback with a six-speed manual has so much potential, why don't they just turbocharge and hybridize the little thing. They can call it Lexus, I don't care.

    It was not.

The Supra was made by Toyota from '79 (I think) to around 2000. It was discontinued in the US after '98 due to emissions.

The 1st and 2nd gens shared a platform with the Celica, which is why they were badged as the Celica Supra. When the Celica went FWD in '86, the Supra retained the "A" chassis designation.

I would love to see a pocket rocket hatchback from Toyota. Maybe they could call it the FX-16 as an homage to the MR2 powered hot hatch of the late 80's.

But let's face it guys, Toyota will never do it. Asking Toyota to make these zippy cars is like asking Audi to make a body on frame SUV to compete with the 4Runner :D

Yeah, little beauty. But the overseas folks also complain that the Americans get cool stuff, like the Tundra

But manual makes it so much more entertaining off road :hattip:

Fun note: I stalled at the top of this hill climb. You can see how steep it is if you look at my friend and his Jeep in the background.
