Just picked up a preference ordered ORP for invoice from a dealer in Minot, ND. Unfortunately, shortly after I sent my deposit, they closed orders for only locals. If you are local, it's well worth calling. Best dealer experience I've had in 40 years of buying cars.

 

Awesome! I wonder how do you get invoice price from a dealer since all they show is MSRP or sticker price. I'm sure there is hefty margin between invoice and MSRP, so why would a dealer even care to show invoice price. (sorry for the naive question, not much experience buying new cars here)

 

Even at invoice that is not the actual amount a dealership pays for each vehicle. They receive what's called a "holdback" for how many vehicles they sell in a certain amount of time. Stealerships always make money and always think twice if you really did get a good deal. 99% of new vehicles the money is made in the finance office. Remember if it's taxable it's negotiable!!!

 

The gap between msrp and invoice is about $2500-4000 depending on the trim level that you go with. The dealer will also retain a 2% holdback and wholesale financial reserve. The holdback is calculated from the base msrp of the car. The times of negotiating into holdback and below invoice are behind us. They may become a reality in the future but not until inventory piles up on dealer lots.

As for the dealer, I don't like the dealership. Only a singular salesperson there.

Jerry at Midwest Toyota does auto sales. He's famous on this forum for selling vehicle service agreements at prices way below what dealerships offer them at. I can only imagine how he handles car sales.

 

Drove by one of local dealerships in CA.

Inventory has definitely increased. They had eight 2023 Runners, including:

• 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium SUV
• Lunar Rock
• $54k

 

I'm a few weeks away from taking delivery of a TRD Pro in Michigan for MSRP + 6% tax and $230 (BS profit fee) doc fee. As of yesterday the dealership still has another white one available..

 

Was at Toyota of Cedar Park yesterday. They have lots of 4Runners. More have piled up since I was there 2 months ago. I wouldn't pay anywhere close to MSRP. They also had more Tundras than I could count. Their website listed over 150 Tundras, and I believe it.

 

I'm getting 2023 ORP in Classic Silver with moonroof and all weather mates.

Wait till December. Dealers have sent home the majority of salesmen for the slow season. Dealerships know people dont buy in early December because everyone has their unfortunate holidays and festivals etc to pay for or save up for. (Unfortunate used in the context that people are held to ransom by others to participate, or spend more than they want to....... in some cases......to the revelers, do ur thing!)

There is also no tax refund money to be had which also makes December a great month to buy.

December is when you can go for the jugular... trust me on this.

I got 2K off plus the $1300 Toyota cash. Not sure why. I was kind of surprised. It was on a 23 white Limited. Nothing rare or hard to find.

 

Never heard it called that. It has always been MSRP. I wonder if they raised the price from MSRP and called it TSRP.

EDIT: I went to their site and the TSRP is the MSRP + taxes and delivery fees which for the model I looked at was about $1300. So with their discount, it knocks about $200 off the MSRP for the model I looked at.

 

I keep this handy for when subjects like global thermonuclear war and buying brand new vehicles are discussed.
