My first car was a '74 Mercury Comet, the only car I've owned with the floor button. Great feature, really. They should put it on any new car that's going for a retro feel, like the Bronco

I like it too, when I drive modern cars. At first I thought it was silly in concept, but after the first couple times of driving my girlfriend's car with it, I really like it.

I especially see the value for a female, my girlfriend just keeps her fob in her purse, which she has with her at all times, so she just walks up to the car, which automatically unlocks as soon as she touches the door handle, gets into it, hits the button and goes. Super easy and convenient.

Along those lines, one of my favorite automotive features, which goes back probably 40 years, is the little keypad that Ford has for entry. I would love that, leave all my keys and stuff in the car and just hit the code when I go for a run, mountain bike, go into the gym, etc. Super convenient.

Complaining like a bunch of old ladies. You realize you could have bought or you can sell your 4runner and get something that meets all of your whiny needs. Jesus H Christ on a popsicle stick.

My Canadian '22 4runner TRD ORP has all the Op posted plus auto headlamps and auto high beams, remote start, Drl, dual climate, front windshield wiper de-icer, 360 degree Mtm, factory running boards even the moonroof. But we can't get the slide out cargo tray on this model and TRD wheels are considered an accessory unless it's a Pro. That said I turned the LDA off it's more annoying than anything else. Always wondered if the U.S. 4runners get the PCT electrical grid heater in the heater core like our Canadian ones do. My wife loves that feature.

The heater core has an electric grid sandwiched between the core tubes at about halfway. On a cold start it prewarms the heater core before the coolant temp comes up. Never had a vehicle that put out cabin heat this fast on a frosty winter morning. This alone has sold the wife on the 4runner. Awesome feature. As they say happy wife happy life.

Interesting to see that so many people like auto headlights. All the cars I've had in prolly the last 20 years had that option including a 4th get 4Runner that I still have, but I've never used it lol

Or were just having a conversation about it…pretty sure we’re not whining. Just surprising some of the features it does have but then basic thing like auto headlights are omitted.

Agreed I'm old school and would like an auto on/off switch but my '22 says otherwise and that includes the high beams. If there's one thing I hate it's nanny tech that tells me what to do cause it knows better than a real life situation.

While we’re on this heated light discussion, does anyone know if it is possible to just run the fog lights without the headlights? Appears the answer is “no.”

"Fog lights only come on when the headlights are on low beam" according to the 2022 quick reference manual.

You've got to try the auto feature. It's just nice not having to think about it! Get in, start the car - no remote start needed here in Florida - and your lights are on if you need them.

Not in stock form you can either do an anytime fog mod like this one
    https://trail4runner.com/2021/11/24/brite-box-4runner-install-review/
Or you can hook up the fogs directly to a switch which is what I've done.

Thank you! I could literally run configure my lights however I wanted in mu T
Nice, when I add my SS3 Pros I will look at adding that switch. I don’t want them to always be on but I do like to have the option to occasionally just run fogs.

It should be a federally mandated safety feature, if you ask me. I notice that a lot of people are far too dumb to realize lights need to be on in inclement weather.

Sometime in the mid 1990s always-on DRLs were mandatory in the US and people screamed like hell. My 3rd Gen 2000 4R had them and I didn’t mind but the forums were full of mods of how to disable the hated DRLs.

I can imagine another public uproar if always-on DRLs/headlights or Auto-on only headlights were mandated. ‘Mericans want choice to disable or turn stuff off.

They should have just mandated headlights always on when they mandated it for motorcycles.

My dad kicks himself everyday for getting rid of that truck and not parking it in a garage somewhere — Those things are going for insane prices on ebay and bring a trailer!

I kick myself for selling mine. I sold it to have more money for my 4th gen Firebird. D'oh!

I'm also low key ticked at my dad for letting me sell it in the first place, haha.

Funny thing is, I notice often it IS a Toyota, haha. I know 'muricans can't be mandated to use their brains, but you'd think lights on for visibility in inclement weather would be a no brainer.

In many states it IS mandated. I know here in Maryland, it is a primary offense (they can pull you over for just this infraction) that if it's raining or snowing your headlights must be on. I think, though that DRLs count... but most folks actually turn on headlights, so that their taillights are also illuminated.

It's also mandated in MA and RI, where I do most of my driving and see a ton of offenders. People just either DGAF or lack the common sense.

It's also mandated to clear snow off your car before driving, but people here can't seem to manage that either.

Yes... and it's a chore with a roof rack, but I hate getting hit with big chunks of "blow off" so I always clear mine. But you're right, few do.

I don't get why this is such a big deal to some people, yes I get that it is stupid to have to immediately restart your truck, but at least it's cooled off or warmed up when you get to it. I just installed the Accessorides remote kit and eventhough I missed most of the cold weather here in VA, I'll be ready for the hot days. For $200, it's worth it to me.

And OP, they have DRL's man.

If you would have bought a Premium, you would have gotten Homelink. As far as a sunglass holder, I'd rather have all of the off tech.
