    ------- previous post -------

    Just bought a 2020 4R Limited with 70k KMs.

First, I'll play around with this thing on super light trails. If I like that experience, then I'll start modding it.

I'm thinking that the very first thing I should do before doing anything other than super light trails is this:
    1. Buy 17" wheels.
    2. Buy 265/70 R17 AT Tires.
    3. Cut the ugly Limited bumper so that these tires works well without having to lift and to give me more front clearance (and that also exposes the recovery hooks).
    Have I got this right?

Since I'm buying new wheels, I should probably go with this instead.

    16x8 wheels
    285/75 R16 Tires

Because 33" seems a better match.

16” wheels will not fit over the calipers. 17” is the smallest you can go. Be prepared to trim and BMC if you go 33s on no lift. It can be done (did it on my 2021), and doesn’t require a front bumper chop

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Check out what this guy did to his Limited. I think it'll help you with ideas for mods:

If they salt roads where you live, I would start by power washing frame (inside and out) then applying Fluid Film.

Thanks for all the advice and it never crossed my mind that 16" wheels would not fit.

I was thinking of keeping the tires not too wide.

    So I would opt for 265/75 R17.

Trimming is no problem, but do you think a need for BMC is at all affected by tire width? (The bumper cut is mostly for aesthetics and to get more clearance)

That being said, I plan to eventually put a type of suspension that would enable me to raise around 2" (no leveling kit or spacers). Because I am being told I will learn to dislike the Limited's XREAS and might not wish to wait for it to fail.

That size doesn’t exist. BMC might not be needed with 255/80/17 but you’ll also be getting E load. Again, offset on wheels will play a huge factor into whether a BMC is needed

I was reading about the vehicle modification rules we have here in Quebec and BMC would not be street legal.

So I might as well do this right the first time and install proper suspension and wheels with the right offset to make having 33" a non issue.

If I understand correctly, a typical setup would be:
    • Front: Bilstein 6112 (47-310025)
    • Rear: Bilstein 5100 (33-313146)
This would eventually have to handle the extra weight of armures and steel bumpers.

Consider some other UCA besides SPC. They used to be solid but have had quality control issues. I have them now and am replacing.

No need to cut bumper. 265/70/17 Wildpeaks or similar fit.

It's mostly for looks. The Limited bumper is just too "business men" for me. ;)

According to this video, I am making a mistake.

Any Limited owners out there that could chime in?

Replace the limited bumpers with regular bumpers and run 285/70/17 at a minimum

Based on what I am planning to do, I'm going to go with slimer/higher tires. No need for UCAs.

    • RCS767 - Rough Country 2" Lift Kit X-REAS Toyota 4Runner (2" front, 1" rear)
    • 5x 33" Slim Tires 255/80 R17 (Yokohama Geolandar X-AT LT255/80R17 121/118Q)
    • 4x Wheels 17x7-7.5" offset 14
    • 1x Steel Rim 17x7-7.5" offset 14
    • Rock sliders Steel
    • Full skid plates Aluminum
    • Cut front bumper (mostly for looks)
    • Compressor (without a tank)
    • Tire repair kit
    • Air down tooling
    • Switch panel
    • Lights
    • Recovery kit Factor55
    • GMRS Radio
    • Satellite phone
    • Shovel
    • Fire extinguisher
    • First aid kit
    • Chair
    • ??? Geometry fix - Panhard rod kit?
    • ??? Bumpstop - Wheeler's Front & Rear SuperBump
