Or maybe it's the fact that kdss only exists on the 4runner for Toyota models (and even then not all 4runner models) so why bother investing in a big money tool that would only see limited use and Toyota will just lend the tool out.

But… the fact that it needs such rare special tool is bound to be a risk one is willing to take with regards to long term ownership.

Which was a low volume seller compared to the rest of Toyota's lineup in North America, negating the need for most dealers to stock the SST.

lol saw this in a car and driver suspension articulation test..

what is the point of the TRD pro trim? Oh wait.. the heritage grill and black rims!

kdss equipped 4r at the top of the list for superior articulation. This IS the definition of PRO

lol 4r pro articulates worser than the new Land Cruiser

Ya apples and oranges, we can’t afford any Lexus suv’s plus they’re too posh and nice for a guy like me anyways.

isn’t it true non KDSS has better rear end droop?

    I see LX600 on there.

In any case, so the only current production Toyota product available in the US that has better flex than a 45k 4R ORP is the LX600 which starts at

    ...check notes...

    $93915.

Okay then. To quote Boondock Saints, I'm strangely comfortable with it.

Let’s assume the price is 45k for both vehicles. You’d still be better off with a base 4R than the Lexus if you go off roading unless you trim the shit out of the Lexus bumper.

It reminds me a few months ago I went camping with a friend who has a fancy Mercedes suv with air suspension. Once we got to a rocky part of the trail requiring 4lo, he raised his car to gain a lot of ground clearance. Quite impressive to be honest. Regardless of this feature that gave him more ground clearance I went with my 4R no issue at all and had to wait for him because he was going extremely slow for a few reasons. First, it’s still a luxury vehicle and was scared of damaging it, second raising the air suspensions made the ride super stiff which was not comfortable at all. Lastly his car computer has some sort of atrac and it was doing a lot of “thinking” which made it not smooth at all like the 4R did.

all that to say, numbers on papers can be impressive but do not necessarily tell the whole story

None of this is in any way, shape, or form relevant to the relative merits or drawbacks of KDSS. I don't give a hoot what someone with a POS mercedes does.

I would think the stock 4R with KDSS has more articulation than a lifted 4R without.
