Frustrating that they didn't include that cable! It's not like it's useful for anything else!

Finally found another head unit from TRDLunar on Instagram. Everything works great except for Android Auto and Nav. Harness is on the way for nav tho. I went through and updated the firmware and still nothing. Apple Carplay works great tho. Going to try my partners older device when I get home tonight to see if that does anything. Any ideas? My device is a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Those of you did this, did you have any issues with the hazard switch? I noticed the newer 2020+ housing has a different slot for it. I got the newer switch but when I plug it in I can't get it to turn off.

This. The EQ curve is terrible (like most every oem unit) and like my man said, you’re gonna spend 2k on a fix86/twk88 and integration. A CarPlay pioneer is like 400 bucks, integration is another 250, then throw 1000 at properly amplified channels.

you could leave the factory speakers in on low gains and still see amazing improvements…. If you start with a crap signal, it’s all downhill from there.

Sorry to bump an older post but wanted to ask as I am looking to do the same swap into my 2015 SR5P. Do all 2020+ headunits have Apple Carplay/Android Auto integrated? If not, which part number/model/trim should I look for? How would I determine which 2020+ headunit has Android Auto? TIA!

From my understanding yes all 2020+ have it. Just know that some have Navi some don’t. I just did the swap and well worth it to me.

Did everything work normally or did you come across some glitches?

Where did you find the headunit? And how much is a decent price to pay you think?

    Thanks!

Did Apple Carplay / Android Auto work for you without any hiccups? As in you just plug into USB and is starts up? Thanks!

Yep everything worked fine, no hiccups. First few times it would reboot itself but now it’s fine.

All was fine..just make sure you get a harness/adapter for the unit. I got mine from autoharnesshouse. Got mine from fleebay.

With the swap and the right harness does the unit retain the vehicle integration? Like outside of audio I believe the unit also shows some system messages and reads mpg info and such, do all functions work 100%?

For those that have done the swap, is the trim colour an exact match or is it slightly off?

I just ordered a headunit and about to place an order for the wiring harness from autoharnesshouse. Will update once installed. Excited to update my headunit!

No glitches on my side when doing the conversion. The switch was easy and only took about an hour.

I found my replacement from LKQ in Utah and had it shipped to CO. With the head unit and adapter I was all in for about $900.

And you are completely happy with the upgrade? With such amount spent one can get a really good aftermarket unit, but I for one rather stay with OEM if it offers CarPlay and larger screen and I’m willing to spend as much.

100% happy with the look and performance. I wanted to keep the stock look and feel, but upgrade and this did exactly that. No regrets whatsoever

Just received my headunit! Now just waiting for the transplant harness to show up so I can do the install! Any tips/tricks for the install for those who have done it already? I believe this should be a fairly simple plug and play install but open to any advice, thanks!

Hey while you've go that there, does it look like it would be easy, or even possible to separate that silver trim?
I want to vinyl wrap mine.

i dipped mine when i first bought my truck, before i swapped out the radio. it a bunch of small screws, if you take your time it's doable to get it apart, but youre taking apart every single component including the screen and digitizer, the screws holding it to the trim are below all that stuff. There are not any screws in view on the back holding to the trim when fully assembled.

Like i said , doable if you have the patience.

Just finished installing the headunit and everything works! The only thing I noticed is the hazard button works but does not stay on. Does anyone know anything about that?

This has to be talked about earlier in this thread. I ended up using the stock button and wrapped some cloth tape around it to stuff it back in it's home. You will have to get the stock harness off the old head unit as well.

    I figured out a fix to the hazard button. May be a bit of work but worth it in my opinion. Or you can do what others have done and just wrap cloth or tape around original hazard button. I didn't want to do it so I thought I'd find a solution I was happy with. I documented in another post for future reference for anyone attempting this in the future. Here's the link;

For those that did the swap, I noticed that I now can't rewind, fast forward (left and right directional buttons on steering wheel) when listening to audios on a USB stick from steering wheel like I did with the original unit. I am able to skip to next and previous track though with up and down buttons. Also, in phone screen, I can't use up and down buttons when scrolling through contacts. Has anyone else experienced this? If yes, did you find a fix? Have also contacted Auto Harness House to see if they have any insights - still waiting for their response. Not a huge deal but was just wondering what others experienced if anything. Thanks!

Per my last post above - I did a bit more digging and realized that 2020+ steering wheel controls are not exactly the same as 2014's - 2019's. Some buttons are in different locations with different orientations and 2020+ looks to have more options as well. This is probably the reason I lost those functions. Since it is very minor, it is definitely something I can live with. Something to think about if considering this retrofit.

Good to know. I noticed that the harness maker noted that some functions on the center multi-function display also would not work if the new unit did not have Navigation. I have a unit coming next week that does not have Navi…curious if it will change anything on my 2015 display.

Just had a thought regarding navigation. The nav box is a separate box that sits just below the main head unit (at least on the 2020+ headunit). I wonder if it's possible to add nav to a unit without it by just adding the box and related harness. Curious to know if it would be a plug and play install. Just thinking out loud...

I’m guessing it is as simple as adding the module and plugging in the harness to the main box. Actually saw a stand alone Mac unit but they wanted $350+ for it and it is another $60 for the interconnect cable.

Does anyone know who makes an in motion lockout bypass. So the person in passenger seat can change address in nav while in motion. Specifically asking those have done this retrofit. Thanks!
