Just a reminder that the 2020+ 4R NA tune is released and available. :hattip:

Reach out to your local YotaWerx tuner today to inquire about getting tuned!

Hopefully the next VFTuner update includes the rest of the ECU versions.

Please stay tuned for an announcement regarding a pricing update for 2020+ 4Runner tuning, due to the operational costs required in order to flash those vehicles (VIN registration procedures).

Since we've had a fair number of people reach out with questions of power numbers obtained with the 2020+ 4R, we do not have 2020+ 4R dynographs.

However, we launched our 2010-2019 4R tune with dynographs and we expect our 2020+ 4R tune to perform at the same level, perhaps even a bit higher due to some of the additional tools we have at our disposal for the 2020+ tunes.

As always with YW tunes, we prioritize drivability and low to mid range torque as that is where you need it most, and while drivability and power go hand in hand, drivability must always remain a primary concern and motivator given how these trucks are used by the average consumer.

We appreciate the community's support and the trust you've placed in our product since we first launched our initial 4R tuning options, and we continue to work to bring you a premium tuning solution for your vehicles.

    Hello all,

I recently got the 2020+ YW Tune with the latest update. I cannot express how happy I am with the way the rig runs now compared to how the factory settings was. It is much more torque-y and the sensitivity on the gas allows for a much smoother ride. The truck overall feels lighter with less drag when you accelerate.

The MPGs went up slightly too on my 2 hour drive to my camp spot. I got about 16mpg average. This is accounting for my RTT, accessories and all of the camp gear.

Overall super happy with the way the tune is. I will continue to monitor to see if there are any emerging issues. Thank you to Tony (Wa State region), and Yotawerx for providing all of the necessary support for this tune.

New batch of VFTuner remote kits ordered yesterday, so as soon as those arrive we can fulfill orders on those for those of you not near a YotaWerx networked tuner and/or preferring to tune your own truck and have your tune pack readily accessible.

1st post has finally been updated (sorry for my laziness on that) to reflect pricing on that option ($650 for 2010-19MY, $750 for 2020+MY, with everything needed: VFTuner kit providing tactrix device and cable, and our tune pack along with our tune guide supplement documents).

we haven't planned on dyno'ing the 2020+ tunes as a priority since we have our 2010-19 dynographs.

If those are not sufficient for people, we can put it on the list.

Following some additional high altitude and mountain pass testing, we've made the decision to take our already improved 2020+ 4Runner shift logic and apply additional transmission control revisions, to better ensure that your truck is being kept in the appropriate powerband with little effort which translates to improved efficiency and better power application, and a better driving experience in all scenarios, both in flatter land (such as El Paso where we're based, with limited mountain pass testing available) and in scenarios where high load in higher gears on steeper grades is required.

Your 4Runner doesn't need to be short shifting and rushing into 5th gear in order to be efficient. It already does that stock and that is part of the reason why it needs tuning. The early shifts place you in scenarios where you are out of the appropriate powerband, and leave you without the confidence to accelerate appropriately on demand.

Our currently released tune for all 4Runners addresses this and more. This update for the 2020+ will take better advantage of the tools available to us to further improve upon what we've offered you already to give you a significantly superior driving experience, especially in the scenarios mentioned above. If we have the tools available, we should use them right?

There are several approaches to tuning, and the approach that we take involves using the transmission to our (and your) advantage. Our tunes are not just throttle response tunes. We use a very wide range of tools available to give you the best possible experience with us, and that includes continued work and updates along the way as we encounter things that we feel may need addressing. The end result is always an improved tune and driving experience for you, which is always made available for free to existing customers. Doesn't matter if we release 1 update, or 10.

While we may have started out with tuning on the 3GTacoma side and owned Tacoma's as well, we (my business partner and myself) also own 4Runners and test and dev and run these tunes on our own trucks. We're not just Tacoma guys making 4Runner tunes for you. We're 4Runner guys, feeling exactly what you feel on your own truck.

Thank you all for your support, and stay safe!

Yesterday included several hours doing drivability refinement on this GX460 with special attention being given to shifting, especially 4-6th gears on the highway. Very heavy truck, but that v8 is moving very strongly now and breathing easily too.

Posting here because we all know the GX is the v8 5T4R ;)

Friendly reminder to people that YotaWerx also has tune packs for the 4T4R with the VVTI 4.7L v8

This transmission control update for the 2020+ is looking great and ready to go ;) exciting stuff, and a huge difference can be felt. Prior customers have already been updated and reporting favorably on it.

Would love to hear more about the V8 tuning. That seems like it could be a huge increase in performance…

Actually this guy just took his GX to Durango yesterday to kick off his weekend camping trip and reported a 2.5 mpg increase with the premium fuel tune we gave him, and seeing 5th and 6th a lot more now along with smoother cruising, shifting, and additional power rather than just roaring along in 4th gear the whole time.

His Instagram handle is lexus_luthor14 if you'd like to reach out to ask him additional questions.

The premium fuel ignition we gave him was actually one of the final maps we gave him before calling it a day on Sunday while doing all that drivability testing with him. The majority of the 6 hours or so we spent was on maps appropriate for regular octane and even then an immense benefit could be noted.

I've seen the same thing with my own 4.7L 4Runner and my 5.7L Tundra. Toyota V8's respond super well to tuning.

We also have a guy out in Houston ripping around on this same GX460 premium fuel tune, although his truck is a little lighter overall than the one pictured up above.

Some photos of a couple of the 2020+ 4Runners that got tuned this weekend!

These guys' trucks are now running right with YotaWerx tunes on board, benefitting from smoother drivability, improved throttle response options, proper shifting that keeps the truck in the appropriate powerband, and improved power especially down low and in the mid range where it's most needed.

Hi! This is MCB Autotech the HOUSTON network of Yotawerx tuning.

Here is a picture of I do believe the first 2020+ 4r that we tuned across our network. He was tuned with our Premium ACTIVE DUTY.. After a couple hundred miles, Owner confirmed great drivability, more power and torque as well as better gas mileage both Daily Driven and Towing performance when he pulls his boat for fishing.

So if you are a Local of Houston, Kindly visit our website at www.mcbautotech.com

I like the idea of the tune, but how is it different from driving in "S" mode?
Just curious if anyone has compared the two.
    Thanks

S-mode only limits the transmission to highest gear you have selected (i.e. S4 = 4th gear max). It is not the same as being tuned for instance.

In addition, the gearlock feature (if you choose to run it) is functionally different from factory S-mode. When in regular S-mode, your transmission will still downshift. With gearlock, it will only stay in the selected gear. This primarily ends up coming down to personal preference, although some people like Gearlock for the predictability it provides off-road and while driving, since you have the opportunity to know exactly what gear you'll be in regardless of pedal position (which could prompt a downshift).

As noted above, S-mode is not its own substitute for a tune. S-mode doesn't give you additional throttle response or a different set of shift logic parameters. It's simply a feature to influence some further control over the transmission by setting a max gear available for it to use.

Our tune nets you additional power, uses various transmission controls to overhaul the shift logic, improves your throttle response and provides you with a smoother and more responsive driving experience. S-mode on its own cannot do these things.

Is gear lock a feature of a stock 4runner that I’ve missed all this time, or is it a feature of the tune?

Gearlock is an optional feature of the tune we provide. Ordinarily, S-mode just limits you to a set max gear but still downshifts below that if shifting criteria is met.

My specific scenario is a 2015 LE, is Gear-lock even an option? Sorry if that has already been answered elsewhere.

    No problem.

2015 Limited? That ECU is one of the very few that has transmission tables available for 2010-19 (seriously, like only one or two do and they're Limited trim ECUs only), but gearlock like what I'm referring to for the 2020+ is not an option.

There are some tables available that I'd be willing to work with you on to test a workaround, but it likely wouldn't work out and even if it did, with so few 2010-19MY's having shift tables available it wouldn't be something that could be made available for everyone anyway.

    Thanks Ziggy,

I'm in southern Oregon and I don't see anyone even close to local. Can I do this remote? If I understand your post correctly, I believe the answer is no.

So is the second option to contact the tuner in WA and find out when they're up for a road trip?

    Thanks again!
    Mike

Actually we do distribute our tune packs bundled with VFTuner flash kits for personal use/DIY, as well as a helpful tune guide supplement document to help with the process. The 1st post should have pricing details on that. If not, I need to update it and that's my bad.

If you'd prefer a YotaWerx tuner to flash your truck, then yes, you'd need to coordinate something with our Seattle tuner.
