Unfortunately we don't have a PA tuner in our network (closest would be northern Connecticut), but purchasing VFTuner and our tune pack to then flash your truck yourself would be an option available to you.

2020+ 4R NA will be no different from the current 2010-19 4R tune from YW, at $500 for tune flash service across the network, or $200 for the tune pack. These prices are before any discounts, such as our current 4th of July sale, or our Bring A Friend Discount, etc.

Only if you also purchase the VFTuner Pro upgrade ($1250) in addition to the normal VFTuner software license ($399), and additional vehicle credits for VIN registration. I can over this more in detail via PM or if you email at yotawerxtuning@gmail.com if that is something you're interested in pursuing.

Would increasing the horsepower and torque increase towing power/capability? Right now the 4Runner is limited to 5000lb towing capacity. Would this increase with more power?

It will increase the capability with which it can tow up to 5000lb.

Increasing power does not increase the manufacturer set tow capacity/limit, and you won't win the ensuing insurance battle either if you tow beyond it and something happens. Going beyond that limit will probably feel better than it would otherwise, but that's still the wrong answer.

But it will make it much easier to tow within those set limits.

Which makes me still question how we have the same tow capacity as a highlander, but... Whatever!!

Thanks to VFTuner's software, YotaWerx Tuning now has beta access to 2020+ 4Runner ECUs! The ECUs available are a bit limited for the time being but that shouldn't last too long as VFTuner is working on adding in other ECU versions for these trucks.

Confirmed access for 2020 2WD, 2022 4WD, and a version that may be 2021 4WD but requires confirmation. ECUs for other drivetrains should become available within the next week or two.

We will be first building our current 4Runner tune for these ECUs to make available to people, but this may take a little additional time since the 2020+ ECU has several differences from the 2010-19MY that need to be taken into account, and then begin digging into new controls that are available to take advantage of them for you guys, such as the transmission/shifting controls.

Remember, tune updates are provided for free!

Thank you for your support everyone!

Our Houston tuner flashed a 2021 4R today, testing a few prepared tunes to confirm drivability and ideal function compared against our existing and very popular 2010-19 4R tune. Exciting! ;):D

Initial testing was positive, Houston tuner is following up with them tomorrow and will spend some additional time with them to get further impressions/feedback/data.

Individuals also always have the option of purchasing VFTuner software and our tune pack to then flash their own truck.

Let me know if there's any other questions I can help with.

You had mentioned power and fuel economy. Our premium fuel tune yields the most power and low end torque, significantly in fact. We have several customers who use that tune for towing.

WRT fuel economy, no one gain guarantee gains, but several customers have reported averages of 18-21mpg on the premium fuel tunes. My business partner's 2011 4R is our R&D truck and he's got a pretty heavy setup and averages 19-21 depending on if he's doing primarily highway or mixing in some city driving for work.

what are the computer requirements for the software? MAC or PC? Based what I’ve read the AD 87 seems great (plus as a 30yr retiree I’m partial to your naming!!) Partly based in fuel prices here and I also run Efree typically. We don’t have any interstates per say but long stretches at 60mph.

    Hello all,

Bit of an update: Mat/VF added support for my/the 2020 4wd 4Runner to VFTuner just yesterday (Friday) morning, which means I was finally able to use my own 4Runner for testing rather than relying on remote tuning to confirm that our 2010-19 4R tune translates well to the 2020+. As you can imagine, this greatly accelerates the testing and tune refinement process and I've already put in several hours between yesterday and today to get these 2020+ tunes refined and ready to go for you guys.

Thank you for the patience and support! Tunes will be released very soon!

    Hello Marc
I opened your map (post 1) and it does not show me anyone anywhere. I am in Phoenix, 4R 2018 off-road heavily modified at the edge of the GVRW. I drive very conservatively and I will start towing soon. Do you have anyone here in my area that tunes?
Which tunes would you recommend ? Thanks in advance. Rich

    Appreciate that @replica9000

@freak4life Justin/MobileAntics is in PHX, not sure why the link wasn't showing you his listing, but it appears when I pull up the map.

I'd recommend the Active Duty tune for anyone with an excessively heavy truck, especially if they'll be towing, and if feasible I'd also definitely recommend premium fuel for that extra torque. I know prices and economy are a consideration, but both our 2011MY R&D truck and several customer accounts have demonstrated this choice being worth the additional fuel cost, along with favorable fuel economy. This should be easier to attain as well if you drive more conservatively.

Time to start building the tune packs for the 2020+ 4R.

2020+ 4R tune can be considered released.

    Tune testing/verification completed on a pretty much stock 2020 4wd 4Runner.

VFTuner software currently supports the following 2020+ 4R's:

    MY2020: 2wd, 4wd
    MY2021: 4wd
    MY2022: 4wd

If your vehicle is not in this list, please remain patient as the rest of the ECUs are expected to be added for support soon. In addition, if you have VFTuner or an OBD code reader (most OBD code reader devices are capable of identifying ECU info) and your truck is not in the above list, we would very much appreciate receiving confirmation of your ECU version. This will help us better assist people moving forward.

Please note that while the Limited trim traditionally is 4wd full-time, it usually has a separate ECU ID from the part-time 4wd trucks.

    From Mat (OVTune/VFTuner) last night:

"Gear size / tire size / gear ratios / etc will be available soon for 20+ 4R. I'm also researching on how the alternator is controlled to see if we can include alternator tables for voltage control."
