Yet another question about tire size, wheel spacers and rubbing

I'm looking to keep the stock wheels and paint them black, as I like the look of the wheel just not the color. I am currently running the stock 265/70/17 tire size.

I am adding the Cornfed 1" front end level to eliminate the rake, and I want to add 1.5" KSP wheel spacers to improve the stance.

I have been researching and it appears that if I stick with the stock tire size I may need to remove the front mud flaps and trim the front bumper.

I could also go up to 275/70/17 and get away with mud flap removal and trimming the front bumper.

If I go up to 285/70/17 tires I may need also to do the body mount chop.

Are there any other options I should consider?

 

My 1.5" wheel spacers arrived today so I mocked up the front driver tire to see if anything would rub on the stock SR5 wheels and the stock 265/70/17 tires. I did not have any rubbing but it was very close to touching the mud flap, so I'm certain the 285/70/17 tires would rub.

I'm ordering another set of spacers this time getting the 1" size to see how they compare to the amount of wheel sticking out, as the 1.5" spacers might protrude the tire just a little bit too much.

 

Extending the wheel arc with spacers or a negative wheel offset will result in rubbing somewhere that gets worse the farther out you go. I believe I heard on it happening on stock tire sizes as well with 1.25" spacers. I am sure you've seen the Tinkerer's Adventure video on this

A lot of variance happens between different tires, offsets, alignments, wheel widths, and even just vehicle-to-vehicle differences. Basically, every situation is a little different and you'll have to get through some of it with your own noggin, contrary to what you read online.

Just pick a goal and go for it. I would highly recommend picking the tire, then fitting the rest of the vehicle to it so you don't have to do more chopping, trimming, etc. later. Get what you want, don't compromise here and there.

I settled on the TRD Pro wheels with 265/70/17 Pathfinder All Terrain tires and the 1.25" KSP spacers.

I installed the 1.25" KSP spacer front and rear as the 1" wasn't thick enough on the rear to capture the entire length of the wheel stud without interfering with the back of the wheel.

As expected, I had quite a bit of rubbing with the mudflaps on so those got tossed and I will probably trim the front bumper just ever so slightly. I still have an occasional rub but expect the bumper trim to eliminate that issue.

Overall I'm very happy with the stance of the vehicle now and will be installing the Cornfed 1" front spacer soon. I'll post up some photos soon.

 

Follow up post to my current situation.

The 1.25” spacers front and rear look great but I’m still having some rubbing on the lip of the bumper on the driver side. I can continue to trim away on the bumper or I had another idea.

Has anyone installed different spacer thicknesses from the front to rear? The 1” spacer worked great on the front but wasn’t thick enough on the rear to fully cover the factory wheel studs. I was thinking I could run the 1” spacer on the front and the 1.25” spacer on the rear.

Why not just run negative offset wheels, instead of having to deal with spacers and lugs when you're buying new wheels anyways?

 

I wanted the TRD wheels which have less offset than the stock alloy wheels but I still wanted more poke from the tires. Ultimately I may just remove the spacers and live with the tires tucked in.

 

As the SR5 wheels are +15 and the TRD is +4 which is only a difference of 0.43". I myself would ditch the TRD idea especially with spacers. Find a wheel that has a -10 or so offset like SCS or Method that will put them out an inch or so and achieve the look that you're going for.

The other problem with the TRD wheels is they are 7" wide which is not optimal if you plan on running larger tires. Most after market wheels will be 8-9" wide. If you're set on the TRD style get a set of Replika wheels. I had the R213's on my Tacoma and they are 8" wide and less money that OE. Add a set of 1" spacers and you should be golden. This was without spacers by the way.

 

I trimmed a little more on the bumper today and I think it’s all good. I left the 1.25” spacers on front and rear while I drive it for awhile to confirm the trimming is sufficient.

 

Can’t help you with any wheel spacer info but I’ve had my 1” Cornfed level on for about 8k miles with 265/70/17 Cooper Rugged Treks and have had zero issues.

Thanks. I have the 1" spacers been putting off installing them. Not sure if they are going to mess with KDSS. Wish I had gone with no KDSS.

 

It should work without issue, I know they work on the Limiteds with XREAS.

 

I have the 2023 SR5P, stock wheels and tires. Added the KSP 1.5 inch spacers. No rubbing. Have not removed mud flaps or trimmed anything.
