so my 2014 4runner limited has all 4 shocks leaking and the service department at my local Toyota dealership hit me with the 4k replacement of the xreas system. does anyone here recommend a place in the boston area who can remove the system and put regular shocks on?im new to the area and Toyota said they will only replace with the same system. to make matters worse my vehicle did not pass Maryland state inspection because of the leaky shocks. and I have 28 days to repair them and get reinspected to get new reg stickers. I split my time between boston and Maryland so getting repairs done is a logistical nightmare to say the least. any help would be greatly appreciated. I've googled a bunch but not coming up with anything.and I've also searched various threads on here to no avail. many folks have successfully replaced the system. I'm on a time crunch and hopefully removing and replacing this system with regular shocks will still pass inspection.

Totally doable to remove the XREAS system and replace with new struts/shocks. Any capable 4wd shop in your area should be able to knock this out.

If they can lift a Jeep they can work on a 4R.

good to know. I know there is an underlying rivalry between the fanbase. didn't want to get hazed going into a jeep joint. I had 2 jeeps and hated them both. haha

The XREAS system is purely mechanical, there is no electric components or monitoring or anytime.

You could find some good condition (regular not xreas - edited for clarity) take offs from an 2010-2020 4Runner for cheap and have any shop swap them. It’s very straightforward. The only additional complication is the shop would need to spend an extra 15 minutes pulling the lines and stuff of the outside of the frame rails to throw it all away.

Otherwise just grab some cheap Bilsteins, OME, Dobinsons and get a nice upgrade while you’re at it.

The other option get under it with a degreased and hose, scrub it all down nice and clean and then immediately take it back in to get it inspected.

I do like the idea of degreasing hahah. most of what I read about xreas on here seems to have a general consensus...remove it and upgrade. thanks for the advice!

This guy does work. Worth a shot to message him or even post looking for a shop. As Tacomaworld is a lot
Ore busier and populated than this 4runner forum

    Stock....for now
Not trying to hijack the thread, but did I understand from an above post that you can simply find 2010-2020 take-off XREAS shocks and they can replaced on a leaking system? My two front shocks are leaking and I really like the system (at least for now). If I could find someone local willing to part with their system would it be a direct fit for mine (2013 Limited)?

No, the XREAS system is sealed and non-servicable. Once the system has lost fluid the entire sealed leg of it all has to be replaced at the same time with new stuff.
