For those of us who have to spin a USB 16 times to get it in.. .. is this the upward or downward version?

Just got mine yesterday. So easy to install and connect with my phone. Takes about 15 or so seconds for AA to pop up on the infotainment screen. Since my 4R is the SR5, I tuck it behind the 4wd selector and it sits just fine without the adhesive.

Does it cost 89 as per Motorola's site or 108 from Amazon?

I just ordered it from Amazon.
With a long USB extension cord, can this be put anywhere else inside the car?

I use AAWireless and it has been flawless once I figured out which cable it liked and which settings to use. Typically 25 seconds from cold start to AA auto loading on the unit. I placed my dongle in the cubby so I could see connectivity status.

Anyone have a DIY on how I can take out this cubby to drill a hole in the back? I am thinking of running a long usb extension cord to mount the wireless car adapter somewhere else in the car.

Pull two side panels, the center shifter/console top, climate control assembly and the small plastic strip at the very bottom of the center stack. After that two phillips screws and pop top then bottom out (4 retaining clips) and associated connectors for wiring.

You should be able to and still connect fine.

Did you have any trouble setting it up? I have the same phone and can't get it connected to Bluetooth. All the device does is blink green immediately. Waited 10min for it to turn blue.

I have seen some devices do this. Main drawback is significant lag

This has ZERO lag. I've been using it for months with no problems.

Just curious - when using Android Auto on the screen, does it lock you out when in motion? I'm looking to do this but wanted to know how it works first. Thanks!

I have wireless AA with the Motorola part and this is app specific. Google Maps locks you off your phone and makes you use the on screen app. Spotify let's you still use the phone for control.

Works just like if you had the phone plugged in.

For the other posts regarding lag, the only lag I get is during the initial connection. Can take anywhere from 5 seconds to one minute. After that it works well.

Only other issue I have had is it losing connectivity on long drives. Throws up an Android Auto discounted message on the display but reconnects within 30 seconds or so by itself.

I also have the Motorola unit and as much as I like the convience of not having to plug my LG V60 in everytime I get in to my 4runner it always disconnects with the same error above "Android Auto Disconnected" at least 3-5 times in a 45 min drive. I have tried everything that the forums and Motorola say for TS'ing but still no luck. The other thing that is super annoying is that every once and awhile when I go to make a call or receive a call it does not go through the cars BT. Its almost like the Toyota headunit is fighting with the Motorola unit and doesnt know to take the call through the cars BT or through Android Auto. The other downside is that the Motorola unit is not updatable and if they do realize there is bugs with it there is no way to fix it. Hope this helps

I had the Motorola unit before for close to a year and switched over to AAWireless device (2.5Ghz mode) with a short 3 inch cable. The reason was that the Motorola uses only 5G band but AAWireless has both 5G and 2.5Ghz, with 2.5Ghz I have yet to experience a disconnect state. With 5G in downtown Seattle area or other big cities Auto Android got disconnected consistently many many times, almost a guarantee. AAWireless comes default as 5G so you have to go to the app and change to 2.5Ghz and its been great ever since. Both units does have a same amount of music stutter/lag once in a while though.

After 8 months, I have zero regrets. I love not having to plug the phone in every time.

How and where did you connect the dongle to the dash? I've just tore my dash apart trying to find a way to hide my cable behind the dash but I have come up with nothing but blanks so far. From your picture, it looks like you have hidden your cable connection and I'd really love to know how! If you wouldn't mind sharing :D
