I used a warm weekend in March 2022 to finally install my brand new from old stock 2000 4Runner driver's seat. $800 directly from the factory in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
Totally not worth it. I recently had my w/s replaced at SafeLite for $258 & it took them about 2 hrs. About 3 weeks later it started leaking & they replaced the whole thing for nothing. Plus they do installs all day every day so they are far more experienced with removal & install w/o damaging the vehicle.

How badly is it broken? Is it a DD? Is it still legal where you live? Is it still useable?

    Pics?

I've got a small crack in mine that's been there several months. I've got coverage but, don't like the R&R process and I go thru some windshields. So, I hang out until it's either not legal or it bothers me.

My last Taco had 3 installed in the 29 months I owned. Garage close to my house would swap it for cheap.

Afraid my current DD with it's heated edges won't be...

After the insurance deductible, my cost for the windshield was a little over $58.

I agree, have a pro do it. Some things are worth doing yourself, that's not one of them.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
After living in Yuma, sand castle in the desert, my 87 4Runner's windshield is uncracked, but a little sand pitted. not really noticeable except looking right at the sun, or real bright on-coming headlights.
My 87 pickup's is a whole 'nother animal. It got so sand-pitted, as it was my DD, 1 hour drive each way to work and back, that I had to get it replaced around 95 or so. The day after I got it replaced, the DAY AFTER, I was going out to work, and got behind a gravel truck. They're all over the highways in Yuma. Gravel is a huge market there. Roads, asphalt, you name it. Anywho, I caught a rock off this friggen gravel truck. Not big, maybe 1/2 again the size of a large pea. Say dime size. Made a star in my new windshield. About 2" up from the bottom, passenger side. Within a few days, just a few days, I had a crack, top to bottom. This was back in 95 mind you.
That crack is there to this day. I've never had the windshield replaced since then. Never had any cop say a word about it. Not even the cop who pulled in behind me when I was doing my Happy Toyota Dance on the side of the road, at both 200,000, AND 300,000 miles. Yeah, I just pulled off the side of the road and started dancing (I can't dance worth a damn, so you know) around my truck when the odometer turned over the mileage. :bananadance:

I guess a crack on the passenger side isn't a big deal for the cops, but a crazy guy dancing around his truck on the side of the is  :D

    Have fun, all!

Cracked windshield wouldn't pass inspection here.

PSA: If you catch a rock and get a divot in your windshield, CALL YOUR INSURANCE IMMEDIATELY. Most insurers will literally schedule you a FREE chip repair by the local glass doctor or safelite. NO DEDUCTABLE, no questions. They do this because THEY DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR AN ENTIRE WINDSHIELD.

Very similar thing happened to me like PhantomTweak. I knew the chip was going to turn into a crack and just spread. Called my insurance for a new windshield, they gave me this other option and had Safelite out that afternoon. Safelite injected their epoxy into the damaged area. I never opened my wallet. If the repair failed...I could still put in a claim for a new windshield. That was like 200k miles ago.

I do want a new windshield as mine is pitted and is a hazard when the sun hits it right. I would never use a junkyard windshield unless you simply couldn't source it through the glass companies anymore.
