How stupid is that one liner? 2001 V6 3.4L Limited. 2.5 in coil lift, beefy 17s, upgraded injectors, 1500w Sundown Audio system w/ 2 500w RMS 12"s to match.
Super new, but just commenting here after meandering my way into here to say I love my Limited. Buuuuuut I'm just partial to 3rd Gen body style kinda period, really lol.

    3rd gen is the best-looking 4Runner IMHO

I saw a new tundra on the road the other day, I feel so good to see the Chrome is back. I'm tired of these stupid plastic bumpers

Honestly I agree, and I'm not saying this just because I own one lol. I WENT OUT OF MY WAY to buy mine in the first place because I was deadset on specifically a 3rd gen. I went and bought a *speaks in hushed whispers from the 4x4 shunners* 2WD! I love her regardless, and have done nothing but spoil her fn rotten since the day I got her. Just replaced all my injectors over the weekend, and cleaned the completely black upper and lower plenum back to sparkly, shining new aluminum. STILL HAVE A MISS THOUGH which is some BS lol.

I had a Sequoia Limited 4x4. Most of the extra space is rear seat leg room, and it really never seemed all that much bigger inside to me. The best gas mileage I ever got with it was 14 mpg, but it was exceedingly nice.

I honestly have never compared the two beyond - I love that body style (3rds) and I dislike that one (4th and up) lol. If I'm ever in the position to be real choosey I'd def be looking into options big time that I can't really do on my own easily lol.

Both of mine are driven daily...My ranch / deer lease days might be over...We like to hang out in the San Juan Mountains from SW Colorado around Ouray down to Red River New Mexico...Perhaps when I retire I might want to tinker with an older project 4 Runner for my Grandson or such

Man I honestly love the older styles too. I'd love to have an old Surf w great body or even a 2nd gen with the removable back half. 4runner convertible sounds pretty dope to me. Jack that sucker up a bit it'd be a beaaaast on the beach lol.

FJ's are badass as well - love their body styles as well but could never ever afford one - used ones STILL hitting like 20-45gs last I checked lol. One of the few cars from the past 20 years that still holds a great deal of value.

3rd gen Limited is the best 4Runner. I really wanted one before I got my 5th gen, just couldn't find a nice one here in New England. I should have widened my search and traveled down south. I think the third gen limited with the multi-mode transfer case has the most versatile four-wheel drive system of any 4Runner. I feel like they went backwards on the 4th and 5th gen's in that aspect.

Toyota needs to keep the 4Runner the way it is, which is a practical but off-road worthy vehicle. They need to come up with some weird vehicle like the FJ Cruiser, to go after the Bronco. They could add more off-road features into the FJ this time.

No manufacturer wants to go after the Wrangler because the Wrangler is just too weird lol.

I agree w this, my ex KNOWING I'm die-hard Toyota decided to prepurchase a bronco, (one of the many reasons she's an EX) and then ended up buying a 2014 Tacoma anyhow
BUT I WILL say ; being from the Outer Banks personally, I'd love to have an OBX edition just to HAVE lol. I've seen a few driving around and they're pretty sick - but a modern day FJ?? Hell a more affordable one? They'd sell like hotcakes, and look sexy as a MF as they did so.

LMAO I can RELATE NC is hot and humid as son of a b*** in the summer! I sadly do not have the butt-coolers if you will, but I'm happy with the warmers when most older cars ain't even got those! Lol. My tons of windows take care of the heat if simple AC doesn't do enough, and sometimes the wind just be hittin' son. lol.

The only difference I can see is that it's like a current limited, but you can lock in in 2hi. Aside from being able to do donuts, what is the advantage?

I think Toyota would be better off trying to compete with the Bronco with the next TRD PRO 4Runner.

The FJC was a pretty weak homage to the older Landcruisers.

If they're going to bother doing something weird, they'd be better off trying to make a real tribute to the FJ40 and going after the Wrangler. We don't need another goony looking 4Runner variant.

Oh man, a crazy Rubicon from Toyota would be awesome. Just go after the Jeep the way they did in the 50s. Why not just copy the damn thing

I honestly don't know much about FJC's other then I like the bulky kinda tanky look they have. New FJ40s though also a million times yes.

Somebody let Scotty Kilmer drive their FJ40, and boy he was feeling happy like a little child. He was saying, "you want a reliable Jeep, then this is it" :D

Yeah, having both 4WD full-time, and 2WD, best of both worlds. Full time is great for the winter, but the other 3 months out of the year you don't need it and you have 2WD for that.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
This has probably already been established, but there's nothing 2WD about this. It's a regular limited full time 4WD system. H4F drives the front and the rear with the center diff unlocked so you don't get driveline binding. This is good for on pavement driving in all conditions. The other two options are your more standard truckish 4WD modes. H4L locks the center diff which is good when you're doing more hardcore off roading and L4L does what H4L does but in low range so you get even more torque for even more hardcoreness.

Anyone who sold you on your limited being 2WD at any time doesn't know what they're talking about.
