I do seem to remember it downshifting a time or two but I don't remember the circumstances. I think it may have been coming to stop as it kept getting slower and slower.

The trans definitely acts different than other modern cars I have driven where if you let off it's just like you pushed the clutch pedal in a manual and it just coasts.

The thing I like about this is that when you hit the gas the 4runner almost always seems to hit the right gear for the speed very quickly whereas other vehicles have to hunt for the proper gear before power is applied.

I think what you’re experiencing is Toyota’s implementation of its “grade logic” braking system. It comes into play and downshifts or upshifts depending on sensing the downhill grade, speed, acceleration, deceleration, application of brakes by the driver, if the vehicle is still accelerating after applying brakes, timing of brake application after releasing the accelerator pedal, and more.

I just had a re-gear done on my 3rd gen. I am now running 4:88 on 33’s. I am headed out for a road trip in a couple of days and will see what 2700rpms at 75 gets me…. I am in Denver and have put about 1100 miles on the new gearing, we have been in the mountains, off-roading and usual driving and I am avg.16-17mpg at that.

Just got back from California. Filled up in Long Beach, Ca, drove 394 miles to Phoenix before fueling up again. It was super hot out there (106), so had the a/c on the whole time. Speed was 70 to 80mph. 2022 4Runner, 2wheel drive. Most of the time the indicator said 20-22mpg

You could have gotten your exact mpg by dividing the 394 miles you traveled by the number of gallons it took to fill after.

I track all of my mileage and fuel purchases in an app called Fuelio. Average lifetime is 17.42 although most tanks have been .5-1.5 mpg higher ever since removing my Yakima roof basket.

Being lazy without researching the app, But can the app data be exported?

    Thanks!

Yep, it actually backs up to my google drive (or other options if you're not a google person) so it's always exporting and will always be available on any phone you use.

805 Tacoma Tuning, my wife absolutely loves her 2022 4Runner. She was driving a 2013 Honda CRV before the 4 runner. Our 4 runner is a 2 wheel drive stock vehicle, so, we don’t do any off road to speak of. I am a falconer, so, we are always on dirt roads or 2 tracks. I am now driving the Honda CRV and it now has 316,000 miles on it. Getting ready for another trip to Pennsylvania ( from NM) in the 4runner pulling a trailer. 37275F0A-0241-485C-B43D-338220362897.jpg

I also use an App to track all my fill-ups and miles as well. It's called "Gas Manager". I am currently getting 17.4mpg on my 2023 Limited and 18.8mpg on my 2010 SR5.

Got 22.5-23.5 the entirety of my trip to Montana from NC, covering 5,000+ miles. Average speeds from 70 to 80+. Tires are stock size P265/70R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on TRD pro wheels.

about to get the KDMAX tune to see if it will maintain that but with less downshifts

nothing lol, keep driving the same way i've been driving.

FCP euro saves me a hilarious amount of money on fluids that are better than the toyota OEM ones. Swapped my diff oil with redline at 15K and transfer case to get the shavings out, 1 mpg there, big boost after switching to LiquiMoly Molygen 0w20 too. This thread just validates me doing my own fluid changes

When I’m outside of my service contract I’ll be looking for those hilarious savings myself. Still got 40K+ worth of services to go.

My 1997 holds its own at 18 city 22 highway. Though I've been doing a lot of New Jersey TP and cross country driving, and so it's been 22 mpg more often. While in Montana, I got a hold of some 85 octane, and I got 25 mpg. My record is just under 30 mpg. Blessed little 4 cylinder.

We are getting a little better than 19mpg on our 4Runner. We just turned 30,000 miles on a trip from NM to Ca. When my wife comes back from Ca, BBDC63DA-69B2-4904-AD31-5A2A8962C456.jpg we will be heading to Pennsylvania pulling a 5x8 enclosed trailer that weighs about 900 pounds. We will spend a month in Pa before returning to NM. Our 4Runner is a 2022 stock 2 wheel drive.

I have a similar trailer. When loaded up heavy, I got about 12mpg.

I too wish I could do a mpg test on a long highway trip back to back on my Limited VS TRD Pro. Even with full time 4wd I feel like its doing better than TRD Pro with 2wd on highway. I wonder TRD Pro gets less because of roof rack and more clearance bumper vs Limited have more bumper to move the air around smoothly and nothing on top to block the air. Not sure whats the deal.

Curlystooge, our 4Runner said 21.5 mpg, but, when I took the total miles of the trip and divided it by gallons we used 19.5 mpg

Chris in Milwaukee, pulling our 5x8 trailer we get between 12 and 15 mpg depending on weight and terrain. If we are going uphill, it’s gonna be around 12mpg. If downhill, it’s gonna be around 14 or 15mpg.

I've gotten 21.5 and confirmed it. The calculator is generally pretty accurate from what I've seen.

2014 Neglected by the previous owners 2020 is an abused former rental... 2023 New I've been buying above my pay grade ☹️
    I had been doing 22-23-ish with my 2020 OR. 24-ish on my 2014 SR5 (2WD).

A lot of shorter trips so far on the new one. Plus coasting causes downshifting in the transmission control and slows things up. Tailpipe emissions rules (not laws) from the unelected bureaucracy.
