I live in a cold environment and I am unhappy with my WalMart battery. What is a solid battery for my 1987?

I don't start the truck all that often as I use another 4x4 for my commute. The battery is routinely low if not started for 10 days. Is it normal drain?

Once jumped, the battery is being charged at 14 volts from the alternator, so the alternator is working. Maybe I should be starting it more, or there is a drain.

Weak battery or drain. How old is the current battery? Start with the easiest one, buy a new battery. Buy a decent brand name and you should be fine.

You may need a trickle charger to maintain it, starting the vehicle for 5 or 10 min. Does nothing for your battery, it would need to be driven for 30 min. Or more to make any charge.

Normal? Probably so, if it's cold enough. A 'quality' maintainer(not a 20 buck battery cooker) is cheaper than replacing a battery every couple years. In fact, you'll get a noticeably longer life out of a properly maintained battery. If, electricity is nearby? Choices.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
This is exactly why I put Marine terminals on my batteries. I use Optima batteries wherever I can, too. They hold charge like a dream. If I'm not going to start and run the truck within a week or so, I just pop off the negative leads. Unscrew the wing nut and slip the ring terminals on the cables off the post on the marine terminal, put the wing nut back on the post for storage. Until I'm ready to go. Then I can just slap the cables back onto the negative side, and VROOM!
    Away I go.

From my experience, the Optima gel-cell type batteries do better in cold weather. They seem to maintain more cold cranking amps than "normal" lead-acid batteries.
Purely anecdotal, but thats my experience.

    Have fun!
