Except it is abrasive, so you have abrasive particles suspended in the oil that cause accelerated wear.

Normal, as in unavoidable. Just like getting old is normal. That does not mean it is a good thing. And no, oil filter will not catch all of it. The only way to get all of it out is to change oil.

Nice. You must have one of the highest mileage 4Runners here.

Didn't you buy your 4Runner used? How do you know original owner did not do an early oil change?

I knew you'd just roll your face on the keyboard in response, that why I included a link to a scientific paper, had you clicked it, you could have read all about abrasive metal particle effects on engine wear.

You are making a clown out of yourself by attempting to deny that metal in oil is a bad thing. It is common knowledge.

Some, but you can't buy everyone. I recall books on engine building from 70s covering different types of metal in oil, what they mean and what effects they have. This is because fleet management is done with data, that is someone's job to figure out down to a mile optimal oil change interval. They do it with sampling oil in the fleet and looking at oil analysis for various markers, including metal, to determine when to change oil.

Could double down and get a waste oil heater for your shop and stay nice and cozy over the winter when doing your oil changes.

A quite a while back, some of the customers were over the road trucks, construction equip owners and such, hardly ever heard of pass. car or truck owners doing the test ritual.

You are intentionally misrepresenting what I am saying as an absurd "engines that failed due to not having their first oil change". This is dishonest and intentional, because that is not what I am saying and you know it. Are you a dishonest person in all aspects of your life or only online posting?

What I am saying is that early oil change timed to remove metal particles after initial engine break-in will prevent unnecessary wear. Everything else equal, the engine where early oil change was done will outlast one where initial oil was used for a full duration of the original oil change interval.

The engine won't fail if you don't do an early break in oil change. Not necessary at all.

I did my first at 10K, because I was just following the manual and doing mostly highway miles. I eventually switched to 5K due to extra weight, off-roading, etc. I'm closing in on 130K now. It runs as good as new.

“I am driving my 2025 SR5 (stock, 4WD, I am alone in the vehicle with 25 pounds of cargo placed centrally on the rear bench) for three hours and twelve minutes (as of posting) at a constant 77 mph (GPS measured) on flat terrain and approaching a gas station 0.7 miles from the interstate off-ramp (also level, three miles away), how long should I idle before shutting the engine off to maximize engine life? Ten minutes? Twenty?”

im sorry is this an actual legit question? I dont know anyone who lets their 4runner idle for an extended period of time before shutting it off

What am I being dishonest about? If anyone is being dishonest it’s people like you that are constantly trying to scare people into wasting their time and money by unnecessarily changing their oil. Your engine doesn’t care if it’s oil is changed early or at 10K. It’s just going to keep on running.

Yes. In the 6th gen owners manual it says the engine must idle for a minute before turning it off after driving highway speeds.

    77 seconds, exactly.

I hadn't seen that. I guess it's a downside of turbo engines. I've heard of letting them idle after hard driving to cool the turbo and/or oil.
