None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!

The EPA decides not the market. Twits in Washington.

There's that 'need' talk again. It's not about 'need'. One doesn't 'need' alot of things. Pretty confident that any car maker would produce what the consumer wanted if Gov would get out of the way. That includes the EPA and CAFE. "Need' is Communistic thinking.

Never said anything about 'Fast', or the Government making making me buy one. That's the strawman you threw up. I stated that I wanted Gov out of the car making business. I want the free market to decide.

    That's your opinion.

Currently produced cars do outperform everything that I grew up with, still not as fun, and it's still not the point. The early Panteras, early Road Runners, early Camaro's, Nova's. The Hellcats come close. I had to drop my wife at the airport this morning, saw this 'thing'. Usually we have BMWs in the airport since certain models are made here locally. Get Gov out of the car making business, get them out of the private sector period. Btw, I'm from the government and I'm not here to help. lol. A joke but I actually do work for the government.

Cue my Dennis Leary voice- "I've seen the future" 20211216_102113.jpg

I would trade my 4Runner for it in a heartbeat. Drive it, sell it for profit, buy a Refurbished V8 and drop it into a 2018 4Runner.

    Why? ""Because"", that's why!

You blame the government for Toyota not offering a V8 in the 4runner. The truth is that Toyota could if they wanted to. If it's the government keeping Toyota from putting a V8 in the 4Runner, then why is Jeep able to put one in a Wrangler?

Stop making assumptions about my politics. You're way off.

I don't care either way if Toyota puts a frickin V10 in a 4runner. I just know they won't because it sells the way it is.

And, if you really want the "free market" to decide, stop buying vehicles you're not happy with. Go buy that V8 Wrangler and send Toyota a message.

Yes however the thing is they have had the plan for it in place since 2018 however they scrapped it for the 2018 - 2019 model years and retained the 2020 - up in the plan, So there might of been a glitch in the rollout like Mercedes Benz had and yes certain Models of Benz have Subscription for the Key FOB.

Are you talking about all Fob functions like lock/unlock? Or is it just remote start?

No way they could require subscription to use FOB, that would cause an uproar, or at least I hope it would. I have a 17 taco manual and I love the key, one of my negatives to trading for a runner.

entire functionality of the FOB Except the chip for starting and driving.

So if you decline the Subscription No Remote Start, No Opening of the Doors by the FOB Only that Anoying Horn set of button works so yes Lock and unlock plus remote start are on the Subcription "plan" it is Not active ...Yet but almost took place in 2018.

Where are you getting this info? I think most people would be more than annoyed at Toyota disabling features of a car that has already been purchased with those features. It’s hard to view as anything other than theft. If toyota did this, they would be slitting their own throats, so its a little hard to believe they would actually do this.

Wow. That's just shitty. I'm sure someone is going to figure out a way around it.

This doesn't even sound like it should be legal. How can they charge you to use something the you own? o_O

You're sure reading a lot into this. All I've read indicates the only thing affected would be remote start. Nothing's been said about losing the lock/unlock function. You're going to have to provide proof of that statement.

Engine start-stop idiocy and the 5th gen 4Runner not having it is a major reason I chose my '21 4Runner as replacement for my '13 Outback. I detest this technology. Luckily, the only car I've had that was equipped with this nonsense has a memory module from an aftermarket supplier that defeats this garbage.

What is stoping them from doing it? they already have the capability in place if you purchased the Premuim Sound system and earlier reports for the 18 to 19 the "plan" was also the Remote door opening at the 3 year ownership mark. There is a Steve Leto Law presentation on that and I have to agree with him because I do not feel that I should have to "Pay" a subscription for anything that controls the functionality of My paid for car.
Now if it was Sirus XM radio yea that is different because they are offering something (service) that you do not own and not having it? fine. Because it is not a system that give another entity control over your Paid for car, Truck or what everyes maybe I am reading a bit more into it than you howver it was an item of strong talk a little while back and I kinda ignored it because it was Surrounding the top line land crusiers.

that is one of the posts yes and right now if you google it there is more more coming back because many 18 ownerships are hitting the 3 year mark where the 3 year complementarty Subcription end and the $8 a month will start kicking in.

Until I see something in writing from Toyota, I am not going to believe hundreds, if not thousands, of 4R owners are not going to be able to unlock their $50k vehicle with their fob unless they pay a subscription fee. Remote start? Different animal, and I don't even care about that, though many will.

Suit yourself I am way too familier with it ramping up the Same way since I am a Mercedes Owner because first came the Remote start Subcription however it was not sneakey like Toyota is doing it in the fine Print they put right there in the Purchase Agreement that you can either agree to or not and now with the next level I have been looking at it does not say "Remote Start" it say Key FOB Funtionality and Toyota is using that same wording.
it may just be coincidential and I just hope that they never do it. As for remote start? the Garage eliminates my need for that but again remember Your Car may or may not be connected to the internet and most new ones are ...... "Hey guys we are falling short of Our Budget predictions for the next xxxx years turn on plan Door locks"

It will not be just a remote start key fob. Everything I'm seeing/reading indicates as much as possible will be subscription based from the major manufacturers. anything above basic AM/FM, GPS will be subscription, even heated seats since they can be controlled as well. Sure, someone will find a work around. After all "You can't stop the signal". When you sell the car, subscriptions may not transfer to new owner either.

".....The $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill President Biden will sign into law on Monday includes a provision that will require automakers to install an anti-drunk driving system into all new cars.
The mandate falls under the section of the bill that provides $17 billion to road safety programs. Under the timeline laid out by the bill, the mandate could go into effect as soon as 2025.
“To ensure the prevention of alcohol-impaired driving fatalities, advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology must be standard equipment in all new passenger motor vehicles,....”

So maybe cameras pointed at you from dash, reading body mannerisms, especially eyes. Maybe the on-board AI decides you're impaired and with the 'nanny lane assist' pulls you over to the side of the road, shuts car off, locks doors, and then calls the cops. maybe because you blink more than what the government decides is normal. Because the Gov. never forces manufacturers or people right?

Im more worried about my keyless entry right now.

I’ll worry about revolting against the government for the other stuff you mentioned later. Unfortunately, I do think you are right as to where things are going. It’s sickening.

I have a feeling that buying remanufactured autos will be a mainstream thing before long. Kind of like those Icon Relic vehicles, but with 1999 Honda Accords and such.

The government won’t allow it. I bet you they’ll make them illegal soon enough.
