Finally got rid of my steering shake. I did the ECGS bushing this afternoon. Initial test drive of 2 1/2 miles was promising. No shake and from what I can tell no noise either. Cali-Raised Cat shields are next.

Tried to get her aligned today. Guy took off my CV boot clamp! Then proceeded to tell me ‘It fell off’. I went and installed a temp, took my keys back, and will try a different shop in Dallas tomorrow. Yikes!

Scary that they have 423 5-star google reviews.

My wife is now officially annoyed that I lifted the 4R. :(

Got front and rear pads done at 46,800 miles. The rears were at the noise makers, the fronts probably could have gone another few thousand miles, but I wanted to get it all done at once. Rotors looked good. I was hoping for longer life from the factory pads, but truthfully used them pretty hard.

Install went well. No surprises along the way. All the hardware cleaned up nice so I re-used it all. Didn’t bother with resurfacing rotors.

Apparently I was sold the cheaper replacement Toyota pads, despite asking for the same ones from factory. Regardless, they seem to feel like they have the same bite. It’s nice to have fresh pads!

Hoping it stays that way! All the rotors are super clean and haven’t pulsed in the slightest.

The pads were a quick and dirty job (except I take a long time to do quick jobs…don’t ask lol). I got taken by surprise at that the rears were already squealing from the noise maker. I have a trip coming up next weekend, so I decided to get it done while I could, as things are just gonna get busier for me. Hopefully I dont regret doing just the pads, but I think the fact the rotors are smooth would have made me regret throwing them away.

I'm not sure I understand. Do you have to unlock it with the key to fill up, but it re-locks without the key when put it back on?

Tried several locking gas cap and all of them failed after several uses. The lock would fail and I could not get the gas cap off to fill. It would take several attempts to unlock. Ended up going back to the stock cap for now. Wish there was a locking fuel door like the one for the FJ.

I have had same experience. I like the idea of a locking cap but have had problems with them not working.

My wife's Rav4 fuel door unlocks from inside the car. It is a manual design like the hood release. Why can't Toyota add this option to all of there vehicle's and not just a few.

4th gen 4Runners had this option not sure why they took it away for the 5th gen. Maybe they will bring it back for the 6th.

I finally installed (purchased Black Friday) the Sherpa Crestone rack with a window panel add on, and their adapt plates. I was hoping I could set up the adapt plates to be a seamless platform, but it can’t be placed side by side (length the width of the roof as it provides most strength), but the side rails as it attaches to the feet for the roof mount get in the way. Cross rails can’t be be placed 12.25” on centre apart from back to front. Will reposition the plates after the first one at the back to run the length of the roof and see how much the middle ones bend with my weight. My goal was to use my roof for photography.

Other than that desired use, the materials are great quality, no missing hardware to install, and I was able to do it myself with a ladder.

I was looking at those plates for my rack and wondering how they would work out; my goal was more for hail and debris protection. it would be nice if this was the first vehicle I didn't have to get extensive hail repairs done (past 3 vehicles had roofs cut off and replaced), so having something that could be installed and also have other uses would be nice. Contemplated getting a custom transport load tarp made that would secure to the cross bars, but I kinda like those plates now that I see them in actual use.

Nice, thanks for that! I'm assuming the Westcott uses the 80/20 style extrusions for their cross bars, and if so, these would bolt right to my Sherpa.

I'm also assuming that price is for all 8 of those panels; sounds like a lot of money, but everything option would be a lot of money nowadays.

Hmm, I think the Westcott modular rack is a slight basket style and with these added it sits flush (or almost), if you already have a Sherpa I'm not sure they would work, you may need the Westcott rack. You'd probably have to reach out to them as I'm still in the research phase and between Westcott and Sherpa and I had just seen those and thought they may fit the use of preventing hail damage

Just found some pics of the rack without the inserts and it sure looks like the same cross bars I have. Worth digging into further for sure.

They would definitely work well if they fit. Also gives me ideas for doing it myself with some plating.

If it’s protection you’re looking for, then you can run these the length of the vehicle vs across as then the crossbar placement isn’t as critical for the places the plate meets.

That's correct. The MotoRad cap I had before requires manually re-locking with a key after tightening. The GM cap automatically re-locks without a key, same mode of operation I'm used to over the years with Stant caps (which had been discontinued). Too bad it throws a CEL.

The generic no-name ones tend to do that.

I had two Stant 10504 caps working reliability in two Tacomas for several years and hundreds of fill-ups. For a while Toyota Canada had the Stant as a genuine accessory P/N C0170-00020.

Unfortunately Stant caps were discontinued by parent company MotoRad and superseded by MotoRad MGC791 (order a Stant and the parts store will ship you a MotoRad without notification). The MotoRad has been reliable in my 4Runner for the past 5 months, but I don't like the lock design.

Why because of the step up? I also get that here as well if that is the case.

Yes. He was saying that a 2.5” lift will risk slipping the cv boot strap off. I personally think that is not correct. Maybe larger lift would. But then you’d have longer axles added to compensate.

I could be wrong, but I got that @slar50 was referring to the wife and the lift, not the CV boot...

Cost cutting, same with soft-close tailgate, as well as LED tail lights and projector headlights (2010-2013).

6th gen, if it follows Tundra and Tacoma trends, will probably have a non-locking door on SR5, and an electric popper on higher trims. At least they haven't gone to capless filling like Ford and Chrysler.

Appointed with new shoes. Added Method 703's to the Falken WP 255's. Very minor rub at full lock and will need a slight trim but it should be pretty simple and straight forward. Also added the 4runnerlifestyle front valance and deleted the front LP. Waiting for them to get the rear Valance back in stock.
