What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I filled up the gas for the first time, checked the tires and the fluids. This vehicle has by far the longest dipstick I've ever used. I was wondering when the end was finally going to come out.

 

You can get the gutter guard at Home Depot. The bottom panel will fit with no cutting at all (least I didn't have too) and a little finagling. The top panel will need to be cut-to-fit. Zip tie to keep in place.

So, not a seamless fit? No Home Depots around me. Was hoping it was a pre made solution, like it was for my Jeep. Not something I have to make work. Thanks though.

 

My 17 year old daughter installed 2020 trd pro Fox coilovers on her 2010 4runner. She didn't want me to do it so I just supervised and help loosen the high torque bolts she couldn't break lose. Super easy and only took about 3 hours.

Question for anyone who has done this. Are you getting any pop or cluck sound with full lock turning over a bump? The front axle is very close to the bottom of the shock and I wonder if it make contact. I'm going to throw a gopro in there to see.

 

Kudos for your daughter wanting to do the work herself! I know a good deal of women and men who I wouldn't trust around a screwdriver.

 

Nice job! Are you saying you’re hearing popping noises after the install? A common source of noises after installing shocks is a loose lower bolt. The torque value is really high. Make sure the final tightening happens with weight on wheels.

i installed 6112’s on mine using the factory top hat and no spring compressor. Not sure how close they are in diameter to the Foxes but no pop or clunk. Just make sure you torque the lower strut bolt under load (full weight and under compression - 70 ftlbs)

Great stuff! I really love to see it. As for the noise, I had the same issue on mine when I did the Eibach springs. It was the lower control arm bolt not torqued down enough. 130 lbs is what I set mine and its been great ever sense! Good luck!

 

Just got the word that my truck is in country now, so I started ordering parts for it. Cali raised sliders were ordered the day after I ordered the truck. Ordering a roof rack delete kit today and will order SL Wildpeaks, as it gets closer to delivery time.

 

C'mon a little custom work on your truck is good for you.
Not many easier mods than trimming soft aluminum and using tie straps.
Forget the Jeep. Especially round here.
Of course, a premade precut solution would be pretty sweet I agree. Haven't seen one yet.
I bought mine from Walmart Canada online, it's actually a roll of car grille mesh not gutter guard. I assume they make it this way instead of to size, so it's profitable to sell to all vehicles.

I visit my daughter in Flagstaff and my brother and friends in Apple Valley, CA. Spent a week in Vegas last year while visiting them. Usually return from Vegas to Carson City via northern NV. We lower the rear window about 1/2 inch as well as the above for a few minutes and blow the hot air out.

 

You said the custom jeep solution required pop rivets, but scissors and zip ties are too much? Also, any hardware store has this stuff.

 

No modifications necessary. Pop rivets go into already existing holes.

Finally got rid of my steering shake. I did the ECGS bushing this afternoon. Initial test drive of 2 1/2 miles was promising. No shake and from what I can tell no noise either. Cali-Raised Cat shields are next.

 

Tried to get her aligned today. Guy took off my CV boot clamp! Then proceeded to tell me ‘It fell off’. I went and installed a temp, took my keys back, and will try a different shop in Dallas tomorrow. Yikes!

Scary that they have 423 5-star google reviews.

My wife is now officially annoyed that I lifted the 4R.

 

Got front and rear pads done at 46,800 miles. The rears were at the noise makers, the fronts probably could have gone another few thousand miles, but I wanted to get it all done at once. Rotors looked good. I was hoping for longer life from the factory pads, but truthfully used them pretty hard.

Install went well. No surprises along the way. All the hardware cleaned up nice so I re-used it all. Didn’t bother with resurfacing rotors.

Apparently I was sold the cheaper replacement Toyota pads, despite asking for the same ones from factory. Regardless, they seem to feel like they have the same bite. It’s nice to have fresh pads!

Picked up two more 285/70R17 A/T spares to add to garage storage. Kumho Road Ventures this time, Load E 10-ply, 90% tread, dot 2022. Haggled to $85, found em FB marketplace in my own city. With no rear tire holder I want to have a 285 on steel always ready to go underneath, don't stop the trip over a tire. Never know might want them as a cheap solution to swap out my two most worn Mickey Thompson's eventually before I can afford 4 new lol

Hoping it stays that way! All the rotors are super clean and haven’t pulsed in the slightest.

The pads were a quick and dirty job (except I take a long time to do quick jobs…don’t ask lol). I got taken by surprise at that the rears were already squealing from the noise maker. I have a trip coming up next weekend, so I decided to get it done while I could, as things are just gonna get busier for me. Hopefully I dont regret doing just the pads, but I think the fact the rotors are smooth would have made me regret throwing them away.

 

Replaced the MotoRad locking fuel cap with GM P/N 25060147,

$26 ACDelco GM Original Equipment GT139L Locking Fuel Tank Cap , Black

AC Delco P/N GT139L. Lock design is the same as the discontinued Stant I have on my Tacoma. You don't need to manually lock it with the key after tightening like you do with MotoRad's cap.

Update: The AC Delco cap threw a check engine light on the 2nd startup. Back to the MotoRad.

 

I'm not sure I understand. Do you have to unlock it with the key to fill up, but it re-locks without the key when put it back on?

 

Tried several locking gas cap and all of them failed after several uses. The lock would fail and I could not get the gas cap off to fill. It would take several attempts to unlock. Ended up going back to the stock cap for now. Wish there was a locking fuel door like the one for the FJ.

 

I have had same experience. I like the idea of a locking cap but have had problems with them not working.

 

My wife's Rav4 fuel door unlocks from inside the car. It is a manual design like the hood release. Why can't Toyota add this option to all of there vehicle's and not just a few.
