What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

We Installed the Meso dome lights (front and middle) and we have LOVED them.... They are bright white but we really only use them in Red mode. Our 8 year old insists on always having the light on at night so she can do whatever 8 year olds do when we are driving around at night and the Red does not kill my night vision while driving. 100% worth it for us

 

Traded out wheels the other day. The Venom Rex 601 in Carbon Graphite were nice for a while.The Method 305's look better at least to me.

Taking advantage of above-freezing temps, replaced the phone mount with an ISaddle ‎CH-384. It comes with two magnetic heads, but I prefer to use my existing Garmin clip. The pre-applied adhesive tape on the base was crap, so I had to replace it with two strips of 3M molding tape.



Also installed a Rexing V3Plus dash cam with front and rear lenses:

they sure do! i'm almost there myself on my 2021 4R @ 19,350ish as of today..

 

I'll hit 40K on my 2016 within the next few weeks.

 

Swapped the rear mud flaps for the blank offs.

 

What did you use? I cut mine but I don’t love the unfinished edge.

 

Noticed an occasional chirp coming from somewhere on my drivers side a few of months ago. It started shortly after I replaced my rotors and pads. I thought it might be a bad rotor at first but it went away so I forgot about it.......

Until yesterday when that occasional chip turned into a constant squeal. Applying the brakes would not change the noise. So it must be a wheel bearing, I thought. Weird.......I haven't heard of anyone else replacing a wheel bearing at 80,000 miles. But I really hope it's a front wheel bearing and not a rear one. Rear wheel bearing looks like a pain in the ass to replace.

Took off the front drivers side tire to see if I could replicate the sound. Yep, there it is......thankfully. But the sound wasn't coming from the hub. Looked around and I found that the anti-rattle clip from my brake pads had snapped in half and one side of it was just barely touching my rotor. As I would drive, it would squeal incredibly loud for such little contact.

Ordered a new brake hardware kit for $13 and had the broken clip replaced in 5 min.

No more squeal

passenger side fit perfectly, drivers side was slightly less perfect.

 

Got ceramic tint installed today all the way around, and installed black black overlays for the chrome pieces on the front grill.

 

My 5 year old likes to have the light on as well lol. I am heavily debating the center dome light from Meso as well. High quality stuff

 

Replaced the interior light bulbs with LEDs. I chose a reputable brand to reduce the risk of frying the body control module. Map lights are Diode Dynamics DD0031P. Dome light is Diode Dynamics DD0292S. Cargo lights are Diode Dynamics DD0299P.

Replaced the PCV valve with Standard Motor P/N V504. Looks to be a repackaged OEM part with Toyota P/N etched on the wrench flat. "Shake test" with the removed valve (possibly factory original) shows the poppet doesn't move as freely.

 

The red dome light looks nice. But they never seems to have anything in stock.
Waited indefinitely without any communication.
So went with

$6 Philips 30MM festoon X-tremeVision LED 6000K Interior light (Pack of 1)

Philips 30MM instead.

 

Since I am old school, I installed a cd player in the glove box. I like the option to listen to both CD's and music I downloaded to the flash drive. There are times I just want to put in a cd rather than having to download every time. I put a hub in so I can switch without having to manually unplugging any devices (cd player, 3 flash drives). Little disappointed that Toyota deleted the cd player in 2020 (purchased the 4Runner in 2020).

 

Is that just an ordinary USB CD drive?

 

It is a MP3 cd player. It plugs in the MP3 port of the head unit (stock). I relocated the port from the front of the dash into the glove box cut out. Next to the MP3 port is the USB port for power only.

 

Installed the Meso Customs handle covers, blacked out the steering wheel, and upgraded the interior halogens with Lasfit LED bulbs.

 

"Cleaning" out the back a little and entered coordinates for an upcoming trip into the nav. (Have to go south to Portland to get fingerprinted and photo'd for my Oregon non-resident CHL). Several relatives in SoCal have health issues (1 terminal, 1 maybe, and one surgical), so we are tagging on a visit and seeing my daughter in Flag.

Added Cali Raised LED brackets and white lights with side lights. Straightforward install, just had to cut wiring harness down to add to Switch Pro. Nice not having to put another wire through the firewall.

I still use my CD player sometimes. I surprised the new unit supports 3 flash drives. Mine only supports 2 (2019). Do the new units still have the 9999 file limit?

 

Picked up the Greenlane Automotive sliders I ordered back on Black Friday. I know some will turn up their nose at aluminum sliders but after weighing the pros and cons of my use case I decided that these would do what I wanted. Quality is top notch, plan to get them coated in a good quality bed liner once I get home. They're sitting in my hotel room atm lol

 

I can only use one device at a time. That is why I included the MP3 hub so I can switch.

 

I miss Tommy's! Had one really close to my house growing up, there is non anywhere near here from what I know!
