Yes, but the pin was winning that battle. It seemed like the pin was swollen a little in places, making it impossible to hammer out.

    IMG_20220929_121611.jpg

I had a larger punch, but it was only deforming the end of the pin.

Yeah, it only takes a couple hits with a steel punch to mushroom it enough. If you have a brass punch it helps prevent that. Glad you succeeded though!

I was actually able to hammer the other pins out with a hammer and an old screwdriver. This pin just wouldn't budge at all, and was deforming instead. I couldn't find any brass punches at the store, but the steal punch and a bigger hammer helped move it enough that I could cut it up. The pins on the driver's side seem like the metal was softer. The other pin didn't deform at the end, but I did bend it slightly while removing it, and it didn't take much to bend it back.

Good news, there are aftermarket skid plates with an access hatch for the oil filter. If you needed a good reason to upgrade that :D

Finally got around to installing the windshield banner vinyl I purchased from @MyWyfsRnner. Went with the matte black since I had blacked out all my emblems too. Very subtle but I really like it. He also threw in a small 4RUNNER decal that I put on my scoop.

Speaking of rust, a little disappointed I’m already seeing this already:

Just got done driving from AZ to TN straight through with about 300 pounds of cargo and myself (165lbs). Played around with tire pressures and the best outcome for me were the tire pressures at 28psi and managed the best mpg(21.2) with cruise control set at 78mph. That was in NM on the I-40E.
The last stretch and last tank went surprisingly well. Tire psi were set at 32 and the last stretch of the i40 was pretty congested, but I wanted to see how people were getting such terrible mpg’s. Speeds ranged from 40-90mph and averaged 71mph. I wasn’t being gentle with the right foot so I gave her all the beans and was still able to pull an average of 20mpg.

I know I won't achieve these numbers when I install a lift, tires, armor, etc. Although I'm very satisfied with the results, actually impressed, with a heavy, gutless, and archaic suv.

Yeah, I think rust in those rivets is common. I cleaned mine out as best I could with Q-tips and 91% alcohol, let it dry, and smooshed a good bit of touch-up paint in there. So far so good.

My 2019 TRDOR is stock, and has averaged right at 21.5 for the past 4 years (got it October 2018). Similar to what you’re seeing. I’m not a slow poke, but I don’t accelerate hard either. The mods do seem to impact MPGs though.

I was debating buying some touch up paint too but hadn’t thought about the alcohol. Thanks for the tip!

Toyota frame rust / rot issues are well known and well documented. Clean them regularly, paint them a couple times a year, fluid film them inside and out at least once a year, or they will rot. This goes for axles and all other suspension components as well. They rot out from the inside so by the time you notice it, it's too late.

Have kicked around a tailgate badge for the ORP for a while, thinking I might go with this (bought a pro emblem that was single letters to rearrange) and also tired of blackout TRD Off Road emblems on C Pillar - likely to paint them to match this red along with the 4RUNNER letters on tailgate (but leave the toyota emblem blacked). .. Just a mock up and all this is a maybe, I didn't like the positioning so I pulled it off for now - if I go permanent I'll tape it out and get it all straight and go up and over a bit.
    upload_2022-9-30_10-14-20.jpg

That crooked T , urg... if I put these back on they will be moved up and to the right a bit with the top of the TRD parallel with the bottom the the tailgate handle
    upload_2022-9-30_10-16-11.jpg

Now if I could just get around to a project that matters and install those Bilstein's :)...

If you find you want a little more supercharger whine, I installed an aFe Power intake and it did make quite a difference. Sounds like a freight train going down the road now

Programming navigation for my upcoming trip, adding a few items to the First Aid kit (chest trauma bandages and my bag of hot sauces!!), raincoat and tug strap that I took out.

Not for the 4Runner, per se, but for the trip, I gotta sort out the fly rods I'm giving to my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas (getting up there in age and infirmity and can't use them very much anymore).
