Probably been seen and done before but my first "mod" to my 2020 SR5-P was installing the black TRD shift knob. Too cold and rainy here in MD to do much else. Probably going to start a build thread for the fun of it. Plenty of plans once the weather changes. [IMG]

Someday I will buy the real sliders when I take this off road. Lol. Need more protection for the parking lots then you do 4wheeling. Lol.

LOL, now thats funny...... These are sold as side step nerf bars, and as such they work great. Most of the people with real sliders would never even use them to their full potential and really only buy them as a status symbol. These are actually better as steps than most real sliders... Which is ironic, because most people with real sliders will only use them as steps, and they are spending 2-3 times as much for an inferior STEP.... Should be calling sliders fake steps  :D

Granted there are some people actually rock crawling more than twice a decade, and they actually need real sliders, but they are few and far between. I dont rock crawl, but do offroad more than most. Im lucky because of where i live its very common, and i dont have to travel more than 10 minutes to get to multiple different offroad spot, and less than a couple hours from some of the best spots in the state... So i go pretty often, and i would in fact like to have real sliders, but at 3 times the cost, that money can be better spent in my case.

Personally skids before sliders. I wheeled quite a bit and on some pretty hard trails before I did any armor. It just gave me the peace of mind to try harder stuff and push the limits.

As for them being steps; they probably work great, just like the predators. However, they are not protection against anything but door dings. Hell, the predators may catch something & rip off!
People who buy slider do so for may different reasons (we have 3. 1- use as a step 2-protect the doors from chips & 3- to use as slides! We live in Nebraska but when we travel to trail, protection is foremost).
What is the real cost of protection or the cost of a door plus paint etc...
This happened due to black ice (<5mph). Imagine dropping your door jam onto a rock!
    Safety first!

I don't know why they no longer come with owners manual covers. I would have taken the cover from my '13 Tundra when I traded it in had I known ahead of time. Talk about a cheap way to cut costs. What is that like 50 cents they are saving. I've been surfing eBay for one as well. Never saw the one you have in the picture though.

Agreed, skids are more important for sure, body damage wont leave you stranded... But puncture that oil pan, gas tank, rip out some break lines, etc and you could be stranded, or worse...

And i was offroading a corolla back in the late 90s :D Had to have my buddies pull me out dozens of times. My first truck was 2wd, i just wheeled harder, next a jeep... EVEN HARDER.... The more capable you become, the more you push the limits. And often times the more capable the vehicle, the more damage, or the deeper you get stuck, because of pushing those limits!!

But you gotta pay to play!! I didnt spend 40 thousand dollars on a 4runner just because it looks nice.... Hell its outdated, slow, and sucks gas like a... Well i wont post that, i may get banned, lets just say it sucks a lot of gas.... I bought this because of its offroad capabilities, and plan to use it as much as i can to its full potential. Full skids, sliders, steel bumpers and a winch would be awesome... But i live on military disability. I do OK, but every piece of the puzzle that i buy is calculated and saved for. Some things just dont make enough sense function to price wise.

I hear ya. So those steps posted above would cover "1- use as a step 2-protect the doors from chips" But not cover the "3- to use as slides"

So 2/3rds of your reasons for 1 third of the cost.... But the 2/3rds are things helping you everyday, and that 1/3rd is once in a blue moon... But i get it, if they save you 1 time... They have paid for themselves. I truly understand. Its just not necessary for most people.

I order and hope she never notices it, then if and when she does notice i ask for forgiveness LOL... And i have been married going on 15.

My wife still has never really noticed my exhaust... I think she was just so used to all my past trucks all having flowmasters and being louder, that the 4runner still sounds much quieter with magnaflow in comparison, so she thinks it just came that way... :D

Hey my first vehicle I took offroad was a '91 toyota tercel. Rally speed ftw!!! Then I had a 2wd chevy s10 that I ran a few power line trails with but it quickly got a v8 lowered and set up to go fast straight. Then it was downhill from there and no offroading for me until this truck. I just rode with buddies.

Let's start with getting her to understand the need for...
Skids (front with access panel) & all Off-Road skids to start, a slimline bumper & sliders.
I am a firm believer in build once & drive forever. Steps can & will rust then bend. Why buy them twice. Not arguing anyone's decision. This is my line of thinking...

Do you have any take off lower bumpers for sale? This would make a great candidate for a full bumper. My wife just wants the factory look. It is always something...

*note* the Xpel wrap took most of the damage you see! The stuff is amazing!
If it didn't crack the bumper (real low) I would get it repaired. I bet half the scratches didn't touch the paint!
