The filter drain plug is a plastic piece you put into that little aluminum puck you see on the bottom of the cartridge housing. Then install the plastic piece & it empties all the oil in the filter & likely more! It flows out. Very easy and worth the security!

I forgot to mention how I like the OEM black housing fogs. They don't throw light as far as I would like but I imagine that once I get HID's in there I will have full coverage.
Better the halogen & the LED's the LED's win hands down every day. The side spread is insane. They are a great upgrade for about $120. I would buy again.

There is no need to remove the rear skid plate. There is a small section of the skid that gets un bolted, 2 bolts, allows access to the drain plug. 4 for the front skid, 5 for the stupid plastic filler. 9 bolts total and you're done. Drain plug and filter housing don't count since every vehicle on the planet has a drain plug and a filter that needs to be removed. That just goes without say.

Hmm, I picked this up. Had threads on the bottom but the hole is sealed? Guess I'll see with the oem plastic one, just curious

I will learn. This was my first time so it took some extra time & patience so that I didn't break or mess anything up.
    Thanks for the tip!

I imagine that if you don't release the pressure that oil would just squirt everywhere as you unthread the filter.
I also heard that the point of the drain plug was to prevent breaking of the plastic housing which is not a problem for you any more. I still see oil spraying everywhere.
Keep us all informed. I wanted an aluminum filter housing but my dealership couldn't find it & thought it was aftermarket. Stupid kids. I would still like to invest in a aluminum housing for longevity and pure robustness!
    Thanks.

Did you have to change out the middle metal piece of the housing? That is one thing I saw online is that you must change the height of that stack.? Any info will help.
    Thanks as always!

Lol, don't know, I traded the 19 less than 5k miles so never changed the oil. Maybe I'll just keep trading to avoid oil spraying out:facepalm:

I order them from Toyota and posted here but I can seem to find the post. I’ll look again but I think I got them from the TRD shop and they matched perfectly.

An update to this... They stopped the leak, replaced the stripped bolt... Told me they cleaned all the oil up as well... They lied.

They wiped off the bottom of the skid plate but that was it. There was still oil dropping and slung all the way down to the transfer case. Inside the skid plate was a ton of oil. I took pictures and a video... Sent it to the service manager... He told me bring it back they'll clean it all..

I brought it back... While cleaning it they dinged the door and chipped the paint... Now they're sending the 4runner to have the door repainted.

    Holy hell!

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
Wow, that sucks and validates why I stay away from the dealer unless it's a warranty issue. Dealers truly need to get their collective acts together.

Seriously. They sell some great vehicles but the service department sucks. The thing is they hire kids straight out of highschool with no experience and let them work on our $30-40K vehicles.

At least they took blame for chipping my paint and I didn't have to argue with them. And I got a 2019 rav4 this time as a loaner instead of the crappy equinox I had a couple days ago.

Have to say... I do like the rav4. 30 miles home, wasn't babying it at all. 33mpg. Better brakes too. Plus the cubby holes are better thought out and actually fit stuff like my wallet, phone etc... I wouldn't trade my 4runner in on one due to the overall look of it and it's not as geared toward off-road... But I don't hate it.

Today was an interesting day. I can use computers but they hate me. For this reason I hesitated to install our Carista. I had a tech friend come down just in case I had any problems.
It couldn't have been easier. Sometimes you need to read the settings twice because there are so many options. This maybe the best $20 spent on the T4R yet! Best of all; had I let the dealership make the adjustments it would of cost me $62.50 each. We probably changed 10 things. That is $625 because the dealership says "we need to go deep into the computer to make those changes".
That was their response to $62.50 "for all adjustments, right"
Service advisor "nope, that is per adjustment"
The stealerships are making their money...
After saving $600 I was happy and gave her a much needed bath! It barely snowed the other day. Tomorrow is interior detail and I shall only wash (outside only) when it is salt covered during winter.
    20191212_175722.jpg
In the spring it will go back for any Xpel corrections a special cleaner they use that is like a wax for the wrap & maybe more ceramic coating (I love that stuff!).

Awesome! Please post a review after you get some miles on them!

I was eyeing up OME BP-51's, but @Ajmogen told me I would be better off with Kings. I'm still torn, but I have plenty of time to decide.

    I'm leaning that way. You're very persuasive!:D

They definitely seem to be the top dog.

I like the idea of an adjustable height lift as I don't really want a full 3 inches all around.
