It was a full service car wash. It was hot water! I would never use cold water on any hot engine (unless you don't like yourself) lol.

Simple green and water is all I’ve ever used. I don’t do any dressing on the engine bay either. Just get it clean and try to get rid of any grease or oily build up so that I can catch leaks before they get to be a huge problem

Found out I had a Nanny state brake "take over" system and made a panic stop some 200 feet away from a yellow light. WTF!

It's been well documented. Some kind of brake assistance, if you go from gas to brake to fast or push to quick on the brake peddle, it "locks up" but with abs it won't of course. Real panic braking.

No offense. Are you referring to ABS or something else?
    Our T4R'S don't have TSS I thought.
    More research is needed here...
    Thanks for your input.
    At least you are okay!

That's a legit question Jennifer. It's good to keep the engine clean as it let's you know if there are any issues like leaks and such. One maybe, slight issue, but really not cuz you will thoroughly rinse it all off, is the simple green. Aluminum does not like it if it doesn't get rinsed off thoroughly. I keep my engine bay clean, but not detailed, by just throwing a bucket of the soap I use to wash the vehicle with over the engine, let it sit a bit, then rinse and dry. The drying process allows you time to check everything out under there. I have also taken most of the electrical connections apart and applied dielectric grease to them.

Another trick I used to use at a shop for leak detection is to clean the area of the leak and then wrap toilet paper or white wrapping tissue paper around the area (valve covers) for example. If a leak is active, it is almost instantaneous to soak into the paper and make a big spot that is easy to see. Just a neat trick to keep in the back of the ol noggin for future reference. I wish TP was the weirdest thing in my tool box for auto work and diagnostic! The top of my tool box looks like a cross between an adult store and a CVS pharmacy. Every time I host a build day I have to explain the top of my tool box to people Haha!

Kind-of, a small bullet vibe, KY Jelly, Condoms, Preparation H, Golf tees, Clamps (look a bit like nipple clamps (They aren't)), Vaseline, a few cone-like apparatus' that are strikingly similar to adult plugs, a stethoscope, hemostats and a set of the dental hygienist glasses with the built in light and magnifiers.

Bullet vibe, helps get air bubbles out of brake lines, master cylinders or freeing stuck carb floats
KY, water soluble so anything with the cooling system like tight fitting radiator hoses/heater hoses or getting tight belts over pulleys etc and you can wash it off after with water if needed
Condoms, cover ports you don't want dirt/water to get in like throttle bodies, some carbs etc. also transmission output shafts
Preparation H, anytime you get a burn from hot engine parts, almost instant relief
Golf tee's, plugging fuel lines, brake line, transmission lines etc.
Clamps, just holding stuff out of the way or pinching off hoses etc.
Vaseline, Petroleum based and dissolved by fuel so tight fitting fuel lines etc.
Cone-like apparatus', plugs radiator hoses and radiators so you can do a quick swap without having to replace all coolant or drain an engine block
Stethoscope, listening for those phantom sounds
Hemostats, pinching off small things, electrical connectors etc.
Hygienist glasses, my eyes are starting to suck haha.

You are uncomfortable! I had to explain all that to my father in law! haha. It is weird but I learned all those tricks while wrenching at a shop and they all work and are WAY cheaper than the tools sold out of a snap on truck!:notsure:

Take a wet rag and wipe down everything under the hood regularly. There will never be a need to wash your engine if you do this. Even after wheeling, it can be done totally by hand with nothing but a rag. May take longer but less water intrusion. If you have to use a hose, use the hose with wo sprayer on it. Just allow water to naturally flow and try your best to keep electrical components dry.
