Finally decided on my navigation solution. I didn't want to drill anything and decided the goose-neck style iPad holders looked like they might be a little too flimsy. This is what I decided to do.

I went with the RAM "Wedge" which slides between the passenger seat and the center console. It then has a spot to mount a diamond RAM ball. From there I connected a RAM arm designed to connect two RAM ball points. One end attaches to the wedge mount while the other connects to my iPad holder which is the RAM X-Grip.

All in all, it's extremely solid and comfortable to interact with. I'm very happy with the results.

    Always a solid option.

At first I was duct taping my phone to my face, but my eyes couldn't focus that close.

Wrapped the faux wood and replaced the shifter knob with a new one from the previous model 4Runner. Looks so much better to me. I don’t mind some wood grain but it was out of place with only 2 pieces...needed more or none at all. Considered the TRD shifter as others have done but since it is not a TRD, it just felt a little wrong.

The Etune nav might work fine for most people, but I like to go on trails that I've never been on before and there are much more robust navigation apps out there such as Gaia GPS which is what I'm using. It lets you plot points, has points of interest, and different overlays such as private and public hunting grounds. Really helpful stuff.

Having an iPad dedicated for it is really more of a luxury than a need, but it's a luxury that I really appreciate having.

This seems like a pretty good tutorial on pushing the fenders forward.

Carid 3rd brake light return . Now I'm getting a little:mad: I sent email 26-May-19 & chatted on line W/CSR. I know holiday weekend understand. I called 28-May-19 talked , with CSR, sent him pictures of the OEM & Their assy. He acknowledged it was in correct receptacle and I would get return label 24 hrs. This morning still nothing. I sent them an email W/confirmation # about getting return on 16-May-19. Get response they will be contacting me with return label with in 24 hrs !:frustrated: WTF!! They did remove that light for 2018 4Runner from site as of this morning. I will never deal with them again and would NOT recommend them for anything. I'm like a couple others here not screaming or sending nasty"grams" to them BUT I will advise people of my issue and NOT patronize them! Rant over.o_O
Waiting for good old Amazon light to show up Mon. Why the hell didn't Toyota just make RED 3rd Brake light part of the build? Is it because of the Spoiler???

So i get mail and the 3rd light is there!!:dancingbacon: Amazon:locked: Word of caution. The attachment screws go into self locking nut embedded into spoiler. Mine came loose do it R&R several times thanks to Cardid. It cracked around it. So I Metalset with clear epoxy I stop drilled crack w/1/16 drill bit on the exposed under side , white RTV then touch up paint. If I didn't point it out never would be noticed, did the same behind the light. The light did come W/red extra wire. I guess some installs may need it. I just capped wire & tucked into connector hole. Ops checked OK. Now to get my $$ back

The write up says it’s to enable rear fog or tail running light feature. I could never figure out what they were talking About.

We hit 120k miles on our 5th gen so it was time for some maintenance. Yesterday I changed the engine oil and filter, did a complete transmission fluid change, changed the transfer case oil, front and rear diff oil, cabin filter, rotated the tires, greased the u-joints, changed the fan belt and changed the spark plugs. It was a full day.

Everything went as planned except the spark plugs. I saved those for last because I wanted the engine cold. Actually, changing the spark plugs themselves is no big deal and went ok but there was some collateral damage. Got everything buttoned back up and fired the engine and was greeted by a CEL. Shut it off, went over everything and double checked my work. I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary and it seemed to be running smooth so I fired up my old laptop with TIS to dig a little deeper. One code came up, a PO393- bank 2 camshaft position sensor B. Code would not clear because there was a current problem. Started looking again and noticed there’s two camshaft position sensors per bank. Pulled off the air injection selector valve and initially didn’t see anything. Then I noticed it, one of the wires had pulled out of the CPS. :frustrated: I never unplugged that sensor but I did notice that the wiring was tight. The wire had broke right were the pin was crimped on, my guess is that it was only hanging on by a thread anyway. Luckily, I had some tiny connector tools and was able to extract the pin out, re-crimp the wire to it and plug it back in. So far it’s working. I also freed up some slack in the harness so it won’t be pulled so tight.

Wow a lot of work in one day. Can you please explain how you did a complete transmission fluid change? Thanks!

I don't know why I am so intimidated about the trans fluid change. It seems like it requires a lot of steps and I guess I just don't want to screw something up. I do all my own maintenance and maybe I'm just being a wuss about this trans fluid change but why the hell does it seem so complicated??

@WallyT4R I did a full transmission flush on my Tacoma, very easy if you use a pump sprayer. There's a good write up on Tacoma world that walks you through it. Same transmission as our 4runners

CariD another email this morning stating working on return up to 24-48 hrs! They said 2-3 business days on 28th. today is 3rd business day now another 1-2 days? WTF And believe me it's not about the $44.xx it's about piss poor customer service.:frustrated: I don't if anyone here has dealt with them in the past BUT I will tell anyone who asked to stay away from them. JMHO:notsure:

So after sending email that basically said Really another 24-48 for a return! They sent 2 attachments and I gave the box to UPS driver who was at neighbors.

Yes, I was able to reuse the pin. It was over-crimped from the factory, like someone had just cut the wire off at the crimp.

I first drained the transmission, which was just under 4 quarts, then added 4 new quarts to the transmission. I then removed the passenger side trans cooling hose at the bottom of the radiator and attached a piece of clear hose to the rubber hose to reach my marked oil containers. I remote started the vehicle and let it pump out about 3 quarts (just about when the trans pan is actually empty) then shut it off via remote. I then added 3 quarts to the transmission and repeated the process a couple more times until the fluid being pumped out looked new. The old fluid, which had never been changed, looked pretty dark but didn’t really smell burnt so it was very obvious when the new fluid was being pumped out. I guessed on how much fluid to finally add then let the 4runner warm up, shifting between gears occasionally, until the transmission oil pan reached 115°F then checked the level with the overflow drain- I guessed well and only had to add a little more than 1/4 quart more. I have techstream on an old laptop but couldn’t get it to display any data (just my luck) so I just shot the pan with an IR thermometer. It’s time consuming but easy overall.
