What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

We mounted the air compressor today. After a mild headache looking at the wire loom & wiring diagram, I got it figured out. We just did a test hookup before we go and install the wiring harness in its proper place. I will also be installing the additional mounting plate that came with it as I didn't like the small movement I saw when it cycles off. So that will be next weekend, I'm tired.

Installed '24 TRD Pro headlights into my '18.

 

Someone here in WA has that on a Porsche GT3 RS ... and its perfect!

 

Got my RCI low profile front bumper with tall bull hoop installed over the weekend. Overall I'm really happy with it. 4.5/5. My only issue is that the bumper appears to poke out a bit more on the passenger side compared to the drivers side. That's just how the bumper lined up. The other piece which I feel could be improved is the bracket to connect a light bar, its open at the back so if the bolts were to loosen the light could fall back into the bumper. If you wanted to use another bracket, there's no preset holes to run bolts through and it's a tight space so drilling your own holes would be a challenge. That said, we were able to get the light attached nice and snug and it hasn't loosened in the 2 days of driving around and me hitting every pothole I can find for stress testing. The bull bar is perfect, goes over the TSS sensor and lines up perfectly with the front end. Oh and because I also run the RCI skid plates, the fitment there was perfect as well. And the Diode Dynamic light bar that came with it is 5/5, bright AF but not obnoxiously so.












you can see the passenger side lean in this picture. its not much and you cannot tell from 5 feet away.

 

Did a BMC with Cali Raised plates. Pretty easy but time consuming. Good thing my dad has excellent tools!

 

Tanabe Trail Hart exhaust arrived. Nice looking welds and polished finish. Installing shortly. Review coming soon. Will take it for a test tickle after install.

 

Changed spark plugs and did trans drain and refill. Was supposed to get Rad Rubber splash guards today but now tomorrow. Also found a 11349 connector on top of the engine. Wondering if my 4runner had issues with the alternator before I got it or just random that it was there??? there??

 

Dude, I have severe OCD, probably like you do. Now that I've seen it, I cannot UNSEE it. That would drive me bonkers.

 

thankfully my OCD isn't severe and its one of those things where I'll just forget about it and only really notice when giving my truck a bath.

 

One of my license plate bulbs blew. Replaced both bulbs, cleaned up the housing and replaced the rusted screws with SS screws.

 

Couple of pics during the Tanabe cat-back install. Dropping the spare tire makes snaking out the old exhaust a piece of cake.

 

What do you think of the difference in performance of old vs. new?

 

It's definitely improved. I got a good deal and snagged them for $400 and they were literally brand new takeoffs. I've seen some people paying in the $700 range, I wouldn't say it's worth that.

 

Any drone?

 

Finally finished installing the Bruteforce dual swingout. The fit and finish is amazing! Even got the new updated swing arm latch assembly.

Love to have that lift...I think my wife would hang me from it if I put one in my driveway though LOL.

 

Greenlane Offroad accessories, complete...well almost.....If I decide I need a winch if I can ever really get out to do any off road beyond light trails for camping and need a winch...I'll buy their bumper.
For now, this will do.

Did the gutter guard trick this afternoon, from Home Depot; $3.58 per piece; 36”x6”. Black powder coated Diamond mesh. Maybe stop some rocks and bugs from ending up all over the radiator.

I did the same thing with my Tacoma, makes a difference. Would like to do the same on the T4R but doesn’t look as easy

 

After the first 100 miles of mixed driving I can happily report the drone has been reduced by roughly 60% over the TRD exhaust. For the first time, the noise from the tires could be heard over the drone! At idle, you barely notice any exhaust sound. Taking off from a light it comes alive a little and you know something is there. When you really step on it, she comes alive with a deep, throaty growl. At highway speeds, 70-80 mph, that's where it shines. You can actually have a conversation without yelling at your passenger. I normally set the radio volume between 17 and 20. I noticed it never got above 15 over the first 100 miles. Except when Tool's "Chocolate Chip Trip" came on. I expect some minor changes as the exhaust breaks in. I plan on another 100 mile loop today and will edit this post with any changes.
