What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Just got these guys...getting them installed on Friday can’t wait to see how they stack up against the 5100’s. I feel that after my research these are going to ride better on the street and is worth the extra 100 bucks.

The instructions in the kit are pretty straightforward
Takes a couple hours if your taking your time. Separating the wiring and putting it into the wiring looms takes up most of your time.

Finally installed by Xenondepot Xtreme Pro LEDS. I bought these right before Christmas - when Xenondepot was still in Canada. The LEDs were on sale and there was also a Christmas discount coupon. I bought the 9005 LEDS with the DRL module for the DRLs/Highs, the H11 for the headlights, and 2700K (yellow) H11 for the fog lights.
I waited to install because of the holidays, then I was sick and then it got too cold. I figured that I better do this now just in case there is a problem. I have heard that since Xenondepot was purchased and moved to Georgia, that they have not been very responsive. Hopefully this is just temporary due to the holiday, the move and acquisition. I had no problem with the order in December.

I also purchased a set of covers for the projector headlights from Toyota so I can get everything set up ahead of time and if something happens with the install, I can revert back to the original bulbs. You have to drill a hole in the covers for the wires to pass through - they specify a 1" hole so the connectors can pass through. The grommet that they supplied on the cable was very loose fitting in the hole. I ended up using silicon to seal up the grommet on both sides of the covers.

suggested to remove the battery for more room on the driver side. I didn't do this - there isn't much room there and I should have.

The install took me about 45 minutes to do both the headlights and brights/DRL. I did not install the fog lights yet. Next time I can get motivated and it is warm where I can lay on the ground.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning when I go to work in the dark.

 

I WD-40'd my fender wells today then took it to the car wash and pressure washed the undercarriage.
Love that stuff, everything's clean and looks like it came off the showroom floor. Just a trick you might want to try.

Okay, before everyone goes "what?". WD-40 was designed for NASA. They needed something to keep the ice off their rockets. Enter Water Displacement fomula #40. We're talking about the Atlas Rockets for the moonshots.

Works awesome here in Oregon where mud, snow, ice and a lot of rain. Trails get sloppy and the crud builds up even just highway use..

 

Buying the kit is a ripoff and a total waste of quite a bit of money. Buy it in pieces and save yourself $200. The only thing not included when you do it this way is maybe 24" of 1/8" wire loom since most places sell it by the foot, about 20" of 1/8 vacuum line, and a few zipties. About $10 for all of that at your local auto parts store. Personally I don't like the oiled TRD filter so I went with the AFE Pro Dry filter but you can also continue to run the OEM filter just the same which costs you nothing. Here is what you need minus the filter. TRD filter and AFE filter cost about $60-$70 if you choose to add that in otherwise you can have yourself a TRD intake for about $225 plus shipping. This dealer is the cheapest I have found online.

I received the rest of my LFD 7/8 rack today and completed that. I love this thing. It's very strong, and suprisingly light.

 

I've not heard of using WD40 for this purpose. Do you first clean/wash the fender wells, and then spray fender wells with WD40, and then wash the under carriage?

 

Yah, knock the chunks off and go to town. Shoot it down real good then preferably pressure wash. I buy it by the gallon and it's much cheaper. I use about a bottle full all the way around but you could easily use more. $$. One good cleaning last a couple weeks. Keeps everything healthy. Try it and see what you think.

 

Is the purpose to use it as a cleaner?? Or a dressing?

 

I was working under the car today looking at the ICON suspension I installed 6 months ago.

My left rear ICON shock has a major fail... I was looking for the source of suspension noise and racking under the rear end that's been happening lately as I back out of my driveway. The left rear shock is disconnected, the bolt that holds it on the pin is gone. The threaded pin is intact and appears undamaged, The SS lower shock shin guard from ICON is gone and so is an acordian rubber shock cover sleeve I had plastic wire tied to the middle of the shock barrel. The ICON shock mounting part is pretty jammed up on the bottom where it has a swivel joint for attaching to the frame pin. Either the bolt worked loose and fell out some time ago or I jammed the shock at the lower mount pretty hard while off roading in late October. The shock may be hitting the pavement when the suspension bottoms out and that caused the nicks and gouges of the lower swivel joint shock mount. I don't know what happened but now I have to service or replace the shock.

I'll post a photo tomorrow when there's sunlight.

ICON says on their website that they no longer rebuild shocks in their factory. ICON is located in Riverside, CA, just under an hour from me. They list several places in the southwest that repair and rebuild shocks, including 3 in CA. Here's a link to one of them. It's only money right? A new pair of shocks with reservoir and CDCV is $1300, MSRP. I'll find out tomorrow what the service charge may be. The shin guards are $131 per pair. The rubber sleeve was $18.

I can only blame myself. I did the suspension install and I'm the only one who drives it off road.

 

Nice of you to take the blame instead of getting online and turning up the volume on icon for a faulty product. People like you keep the rest of us from having to pay more next time. Unfortunately, some people try to play games and cheat. Good on you for playing by the rules!

 

Both. Acts as a solvent on the heavier stuff but preserves and fights corrosion. My fender wells weren't to bad. Pull into the washbasin grabbed the WD and soak everything real well then power wash it.
Once you do it you'll get a feel for how it works and what you want to treat.
Great for lifts and suspension components. Even better, next few times you wash it, dirt and grime wash right off.

I wouldn't dress it. Definitely want to get rid of the excess thus the power wash.
You won't be dissappointed.

Installed Diode Dynamics Tail as Turn Backup Module and new XP80 bulbs. I couldn’t be happier with the extended lighting.
Didn’t have to remove the lens covers and just about an hour to install.


Now to go do some backing up!

Not a great pic but I think it shows how much brighter these fogs are over stock. I got the Philips 65k led fogs from Amazon. They're awesome. I got the white fogs and put yellow laminX over the lenses. Even with the film, they're still incredibly bright.

They do exactly what I was hoping. They illuminate the area to the sides. So when you turn a corner, there's light in the area into which you're turning. And they also light the ditches.

Totally satisfied. They're not as green in real life as they are in the pic, but they do have a hint of green due to the 65k color temp. And I wouldn't actually say they're 65k as labeled. They're more like 50k.
