wow, so fast, eh? Did you guys even read what he wrote? He blamed the traffic on those who couldn’t speak English or speak “mutated” English. Half of the people you coined “immigrants vs. illegal aliens” speak that kind of English, regardless their immigration status!
Second, immigrants are IMMIGRANTS! You have DOCUMENTED/ LEGAL immigrants and UNDOCUMENTED/ ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. They are both IMMIGRANTS. Period!
And if you wonder why I said, I am a professor of US migration and ethnic history at a major university in Texas. I guess I know a thing or two about terminology.
About your opinion on immigration, I have no desire to discuss. But Xenophobia has a lot to do with production. Remember the anti Japanese movement in the 1980s with men destroying Toyota in public as protest? Remember a guy named Vincent Chin in Detroit and how he was murdered? Guess not.

I can't believe anyone doesn't see the difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien.

I don't care what kind of professor you claim to be. There is a big difference between immigration and trespassing.

Immigrants come to this country legally to pursue their dreams. They pay taxes and contribute to society.

The people I'm referring to come here illegally, don't pay taxes, and are not doing anything to contribute to this country.

If you think this is OK, you are part of the problem.

And don't call it xenophobia. It's just a buzz word to try to make it sound like I'm some sort of racist, which I am not. I have nothing against any immigrant who comes here the right way.

It's really unfortunate what happened to Vincent Chin. It's also unfortunate that you think that is somehow relevant to this discussion.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Please don't tell me JL means Jeep Liberty. I loved my Liberty, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially not these days so many years after it went out of production. One of the times my heater core went out, it belched out coolant all over the ground. My temperature gauge went into the red. Luckily, it was on the road a couple miles from my home, so I wasn't in some remote place. Also, my transmission went out twice. No. The other guy's right about Fiat Chrysler. Maybe in a few years they'll turn around. I hear they've begun using Aisin transmissions. I'd love to get a Challenger that won't be a money pit like my Liberty turned out being. Maybe one of these days.

To answer the topic, I don't know what the direct replacement to my 4runner will be. I just got mine. As long as I live in a place with snow and ice in the winter, it'll be something with AWD/4WD.

I want to get a Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ for a weekend car, though. I'd love to drive it and work on it. If I didn't live in New Jersey, I'd probably make it my daily driver.

I've only had my 2020 for a few months (plan to keep it for way longer) but I would go with a 6th Gen depending on what Toyota decides to run with. The Rivian SUV has recently caught my eye and would be up for consideration.

A Factory Five Cobra would be so sweet! Always thought I would love a true, steel-body fenderless '32 Ford Hi-Boy hot rod with modern running gear.

The LJ was a great Jeep. Some call it a Unicorn. It was only made for a few years an I wish they still made it.

I watched several videos on it and it's really slick. They definitely went after the off-road crowd and it's the first electric vehicle I've given any consideration to. The biggest problem I have is living in rural upstate NY with very little in the way of infrastructure for electric vehicles. Support/maintenance is another concern. We have trouble keeping regular dealers in this area, much less expensive electric guys.

Weird thought... would a winch on an e-truck be gas powered?

And @ Firefly21, that was a clean Unlimited you had.

    Thank you. I didn't know.

Also, the Cybertruck! I want one. I wish my Jeep Liberty still had a couple more years left in it. The Cybertruck might have been a bad idea, but it looks like the best bad idea :p

It is really hard for me to even think about it as I have spent a lot of money on mods for my 4Runner and I am sure I will not get my money back if I decide to sell it. I have to be financially wise from now on.

Here is a thought...find an older 4 Runner and then buy a Honda Civic SI coupe...it's like having the best of both worlds and I'll bet you can do it for less than the costs of a new 4 Runner ($40,000). I have had an 85 Toyota 4 Runner DLX for about 8 years and just bought a new Honda Civic SI coupe for $24,000...Just a thought...I intend to keep my 85 4 Runner for ever...this is my second SI and they are awesome to drive and extremely fast especially compared to my 22REC...Life is good!!!

No way. Sorry, but that is the ugliest thing since the Pontiac Aztec. No thank you. Now I would take a look at a new 4WD Bronco after Ford gets the kinks out.

Yeah, depending on the mod and how it’s done, it can actually depreciate the value of the vehicle further from its stock value.

Hell no! Not a Jeep Liberty.
I was referring to a Jeep JL Rubicon.
I'm just concerned about about the reliability and leaky doors.

It’s ironic that we all focus on capability, and frequently forget about reliability, but you can have the most capable 4x4 ever built and if it breaks down and leaves you stranded in the middle of nowhere it quickly becomes just another expensive liability. The new Defender is a case in point: it looks fantastic on paper, but if it breaks down in the back country somewhere and you need to wait for parts from Slovenia, that may not be available for weeks or months, it’s just a hassle you don’t need. Jeeps have their own issues - power steering pumps and alternators frying for no reason on a low mileage vehicle etc. Of course that’s why safety in numbers is important the more remotely you travel. We’re lucky that we own one of the best 4x4’s in the world. It’s still a machine, and can break down as machines are prone to do from time to time, but for the most part Toyota’s are bullet proof.

If you can look past (most leak), it'll be just a thing to live with.
I'm too easy going to worry about leaky door seals.
It comes from owning 3 TLC's and now the TJ.

I would be more worried about the frames not being welded right or the electronics that fail regularly or the transmission issues. Fiat ran me away from the legend called Jeep. Go buy a mint 80s Jeep, build the hell out of it and enjoy

Speak for yourself. I for one haven't forgotten about reliability.
If I had I'd be driving a JL Rubicon on 37s.

Water leaking in the doors is not something I am willing to live with.
It's as if Jeep baked a delicious cake and then went ahead and iced it with fecal matter.
