I've considered a trade in on a GX multiple times but I can't get over the ugly front end. If they redesign the GX and improve the front end, that would be my next vehicle. If the 6th gen 4R stays aggressive and has a V8 option, that could push me to trade in my 2016 also.

Leasing doesn't make sense for everyone. It just depends on how you use your vehicle and what you like. There are definitely downsides for certain drivers, but there can be upsides as well.

If you're a high mileage driver, like to keep vehicles for a long time, and/or like to modify your vehicles then leasing is not for you.

However, if you don't have a problem staying within the agreed number of miles per year (average lease is 15,000 miles/year), like to keep your vehicle stock, and like a new vehicle every three years then leasing can work well for you. For one, the monthly payments are lower than if you bought the same vehicle and were financing it. Secondly, a lot of times the car is under warranty for the duration of your lease, so if anything goes wrong you're not paying for repairs. Third, some manufacturers include maintenance during the lease so you don't have to pay for that. You do have to pay for regular wear and tear items (brakes, tires, ect....), but often times brakes and tires can last 3 years so it's possible you can get away without paying for anything other than your monthly payment.

But it's not all cupcakes and rainbows. If you go over your leasing miles, you'll pay heavily. If you get door dings or scratches from a parking lot, you'll have to pay to repair those things.....which can all add up.

    First post!

Well given I just traded in my beloved 14 Jeep SRT on a new Pro, I figure I’ll keep the Pro for at least the 7 years I had the SRT. My other vehicle is a 2018 Tundra Platinum, so I figure the next vehicles I get will be his and hers Rivian truck and SUV / Tesla Cybertruck and whatever Tesla’s bigger SUV will be.

I went in to it with the plan on buying out at end and that didnt pan out well. We were young and had 2 kids and this was a way for us to get a nice new truck. I planned on keeping it and heard of a lot of people making out at lease end. Well that wasnt so. So live and learn. Ill never lease again.

I leased my '16 T4R with the intention of buying it out at the end. Work things didn't end up going the way I'd hoped so I decided it was too expensive to keep so I sold it back to the dealer. I was waaaaay over the mileage limit (because I'd not planned on turning it in I didn't care, fortunately because I was selling it back the dealer didn't either). I also had done some modifications, the dealer told me I could go ham as long as I didn't make any changes to the engine and didn't cut anything up. Anyway, I was fortunate that when I sold it the current worth was about $2k more than the lease buyout. But after adding up the payments for 30 months, the down payment I put down, the cost of the mods, and the money I made back from selling it back to the dealer I'd spent ~$16,000 to drive it for 30 months. That didn't feel too good at the end of the day.

I have an uncle that all he does is lease cars. He likes having them always be in warranty and likes getting a new car every few years and the cost doesn't really matter to him so leasing works for him. But I've decided never to do it again.

I like this bumper on the gx. Cleans it up and makes it look a little more aggressive. Even if I didn't build the GX it would have this mod cuz you are right, the front end is ugly.

I am itching to get into a solid front axle.
Bummed that the new big Bronco is going to be IFS.
My guess is that I'll end up with a JL sooner than later. I am petrified of the reliability as most of my trips are solo and very remote.

With any luck, it'll be an older Chevy Blazer K5.
    Stroked 383, TH400, D60/14 bolt on a 3/4 link.
And ZERO nanny buttons. When I stomp on the gas, it goes.
When I stomp on the 4-wheel disc brakes, it skids.

So much money. If I was going that big on spending I would have to take a chance on the diesel. I think it's gonna be a great combo. But big entry $$$

I'd love to get an oldie..but don't want rebuild everything and electrical gremlins would scare me. Although a JL may not be much better in that respect. Thats why I haven't gone there yet.

It would be cheaper (and more reliable) to put a straight axel on your 4Runner.

Far from cheap. 10K-15K easy. There are no kits, it would all be custom. Look into the T40R $60,000 build plus the cost of the 4R

I wouldn't buy any Jeep made today. Jeep seriously lost it's way. They were unstoppable off road machines years ago. They are FIAT plagued junk these days. You will never get Toyota reliability out of a Jeep. I would love solid axle also but by no means is a Wrangler worth the trade off.

An old FJ80 would probably be more reliable than a Heep.:D

Ah old wiring. I do know about that. I owned a '73 FJ-40 for 34 years. In the later years, I was very careful when I had to do anything with the wiring.
If I get a project, whether it be a Blazer or Cruiser, the whole harness will be replaced.

"Jeep seriously lost its way" I believe this to be true. And I even have an '03 TJ X. But luck was with me, no ABS and no traction nannies.

In 2003 Jeep was still Jeep. The TJ was the last Wrangler worth buying IMO

I am one of those idiots and I have never caused anyone any problems with my driving. Could we just stop blaming immigrants? After all, you’re driving a made in Japan truck and those who build your cars barely speak any English.

No-one is blaming anything on immigrants.

He's probably referring to illegal aliens. Probably the type who work for cash and don't have social security numbers. These people are not immigrants. Let's keep that straight.

And, comparing buying a Japanese truck to supporting illegal aliens doesn't make any sense.

Couldn't agree more. Immigrants and ILLEGAL aliens are two VERY different things. I am all for immigration, come on over and make a better life for you and your family. Sneak in illegally? Work and send out money back to "your" country? Cry that we won't cater to you and make the US like where you came from? If where you came from was so great, GO BACK! You have zero right to be here unless you come here legally and even then no one owes you a damn thing and no we will not turn the US into whatever mess you came from.
