    Hey folks,
In my neck of the woods, they put some nasty salt compound on the roads that already has caused me to replace two sets of N-FAB running boards. Do new 4Runners come with any warranty protection for rust? Is it only for the paint? For example, I'm noticing my trailer hitch receiver already is rusting, after 8 months on the road. Thanks.

The only frame rust warranty I’m aware of is for “perforating” rust and it’s within factory warranty time limits I believe. Surface rust is up to the owner to prevent. Things like trailer hitches need to be hit with like what @HoBoDanny said, fluid film or pick your poison of protectant.

Mine sits in a garage and has probably seen rain literally less than 20 times since last September when it was purchased. I've towed things maybe twice and where I scuffed the hitch it's already turning a little color (rusty.) Personally I refuse to get under the thing dressed like a Martian to spray "goopy" $hit all over the bottom. Down the road when/if the rust becomes to much or really starts irritating me I'll get rid of it. Shame all manufacturers can't just dip the whole frame and bottom components to eliminate rust. I'm going to get some black Rustoleum one of these days and touch up the hitch.
