Vled footwell lights

Looking for some feedback from anyone that's installed the 120$ plug and play footwell lights from vled. Any issues or regrets? Pictures would be welcomed!

 

I've had mine in box for a while. Haven't had any real time to install them. Going to this weekend (since I'm FINALLY off). When I get them installed, I'll send ya some pics. I did them in my Taco before I got rid of it. I enjoyed having them tbh. The process doing it was fairly straight forward. But again, after I get them installed, I'll send ya pics here.

 

Did you buy the rear kit as well?

 

I did. I'll post some pics tomorrow and some pointers if you decide to get those. Took me a while to get them installed because I started late in the afternoon and sun is setting sooner now. But overall, it's not a BAD install, but the instructions on the VLED website isn't the most clear. It was helpful enough to get me thru, but I did a few extra steps.

 

As promised, here are some pointers and pics of my installation. As I said in previous post, the directions that came from the VLEDs website is doable, but not perfect.

1. When you get the A-pillar off, there is going to be a WHITE and GREY harness at the bottom that is SNUGGLY attached the metal A-pillar. I contacted VLED and they said because their instructions said you had to "release the catch" of the grey harness (assuming you have a 2020+). They didn't provide much help about how to get the harness off the A piller, and I never could figure out how to get the attachment off, so I cut it off. Literally.

As you can see, I LITERALLY cut off the housing attachment. Once I got it off, I saw what they meant in their instructions by "releasing the catch." So in other words, you DO NOT have to to cut the attachment off from the A-pillar. But to release the gray harness, the catch is on the BACKSIDE of the harness housing. Which you may be able to release. Once you do that, attach the supplied T-harness.

Installation pro tip: when running the wires down to the fusebox under the dash, there is an opening where the dash and A pillar cover close to the windshield -- run the wire in that opening. Go under the dash and pull those wire down.






2. Put the power supply box on your fusebox and put on the wires.

3. When running your wires to the passenger side front side, on either side of the console, there are plastic trim piece that can be popped off. This is important because you'll be able to run the connecting wire thru an opening in the console (I'd recommend a straight hanger or stick with the wire taped to it to make it easier to pull thru).



4. When I ran the wires for the back lights I popped off the trim panels passenger side front and rear kick panels. I ran the wires through the snaps in there, and the rear lights came adhesive that with velcro. So I velcroed them to the rear seats.

In my driveway installing right now. For the life of me I can't figure out how to depress the catch on that harness. I see no way of removing it without ripping it out.

If my memory serves me correctly, the harness holder I had to "clip off" from the A-pillar arm. However, I believe you could depress the catch from the backside of the harness and it would release it.

I even talked to their support, and the didn't know how to "depress the catch" off the A-pillar either.

 

I was actually able to get the upper gray plug removed without removing the harness holder by using a small screw driver and depressing the gray plugs locking tab ( pain in the ass).I I thought I was home free but the factory toyota gray plug that i unplugged wouldn't lock into place on the vled provided t-harness. The locking tab on the gray toyota plug is on the wrong side so it won't lock into place on the vled female plug. I'm wondering if my 2022 has a different plug. I do have mtm cameras installed so who knows. I sent an email into vled so we'll see. Lockdown (forum member) was helpful via phone but unfortunately it started raining hard so I couldn't get back outside to tinker. Either toyota changed the plug for my specific truck or the vled plug is wrong. Also, maybe I'm just an idiot and I'm doing something wrong.

The picture above is the vled female connector and the below picture is the gray male toyota plug (the picture below is before I unplugged it). They just wont connect together.

 

Question for anyone who's installed this . Did any of you have mtm cameras/mirror cameras?

 

Attempted again with no luck. Been in contact with vled and it's looking like there may be compatibility issues with mtm package 4runners. Vled plug won't fully seat with the toyota plug

 

Let us know when you get a reply. I ordered this kit and have not installed yet either, and I do have the MTM cameras.


If it ends up being a no go I'd like to be able to reference what they told you before I call up customer service and ask for an exception to the 30 day return window........

 

I'll let you know. Vled has good customer service and I'm currently waiting for them to get back to me. They're waiting to hear back from The harness designer to get back to them with more information. They're going to compare my toyota plug vs a 2020 model to see what the differences may be. Nothing appears to be wrong with the t harness they sent me. It just won't connect to the toyota plug on my 2022. Here is a picture if anyone that's done the mod might be willing to compare

 

Ended up returning the kit. Still hoping to hear something back about compatibility and why the plug didn't work for me. I'd like to see someone else with mtm give it a try so vled can get more feedback and atleast confirm it worked it didn't work for them.

I made the mistake of also trying to install the MESO puddle light switch kit now its throwing all kinds of PCS/ vsc code Hoping a long ECU reset will save me a trip to the dealer.

 

Is it by design or accidental that you put your US Flag patch by your feet? I know unrelated to the thread.

 

Design. The velcro back wont stick to the roof liner real well.
