Had 80k mile service done at dealership. New front back brakes as well. They rotated tires and now any speed past 45-50 mph the steering wheel shakes then mellows out but Because 90%of my driving is 50mph or less to work I've dealt with it. Is it normal for AT tires to cause this after rotation?

On my first 4runner it started to shake after first 5k tire rotation and never went away. Sold it with third set of rotors. New 4runner will never see dealership. To much troubles for free service.

Check your air pressure, and then also make sure your tires are balanced - that’d be where I’d start.

Hey @Cush7775 yeah check that your tire pressure isn't a little low. I mean it could be in need of a further balance, even a road force balance. Also, depending if/how often you've rotated them, could just be the previous tread wear sits in a sightly different position now?

If there was uneven wear on tires and they were rotated, they could cause steering vibration.
Check thread depth, bald spots, air pressure and get them balanced.

Not normal. Possibly you had the vibration on a rear wheel and it wasn't noticeable until it rotated to the front

Had a slight shake of steering after rotation, went to get tires rebalanced and found that the initial wheel weight position was not even close! Could be due to wear, improper alignment, etc. Some AT tires also seem to be very air pressure sensitive.

I used to have responsibility for steering wheel vibration (among other things) at a major manufacturer. It is not normal for AT tires to create a new vibration after rotation. I expect that your issue is radial force variation in one or both of the tires that are now on the front. All tires are imperfect and the stiffness of the tire varies as it rotates. Some tires are more uniform than others. There's a spec for radial force variation. It's not imbalance. If one or both of your front tires are near the high limit of the spec then you get vibration. I expect that the 4Runner is somewhat sensitive to tire non-uniformity given the huge number of posts on this topic. Your solution is to go to a competent tire shop that has a Hunter Road Force balance machine and ask for a road force balance and ask for the road force numbers on all four of your tires since they measure it. They may be able to improve it by doing a "road force balance" which is simply lining up the stiffest point on the tire with the lowest point on the wheel to trick the tire/wheel assembly into acting a bit more round. But if you see road force numbers in the 15 pound range (or more) you're probably screwed unless you buy new tires or ask them to put the tires with the lowest road force numbers back on the front.

Previous owner did tires and wheels. I've added roof cage, Ceramic limo tint, clear bra, blacked out third brake light, and fixed the curb rash. Misc other foofy bits.
So I have had wheels rotated and balanced. Twice. I had new rotors and pads installed front and back. STILL have a vibration in steering wheel at higher speeds (55-70 ish) and more noticeably in sweeping curves. WHAT COULD IT BE? My son suggested a tire out of round but wouldn’t that have been found when balancing? Then maybe wheel bearings? Could it be an alignment issue ? It doesn’t pull that I can tell on the flats or while braking.

Again this is my forever vehicle. I want stuffdone right. I don’t know what to check next.

    Thank you for this info.

I guess my big question is~~ is it hurting anything??

I’m loading up to drive to east coast, about 1300 miles, with a dog and cargo on roof rack and inside that includes 10 boxes of flooring. Not the lightest load.
To me it seems anything that bounces like that has to be wearing something out.

@RNR4P sorry to hear that, I have a '16 Trail, luckily not much vibration ever only a bit when my Load E's are running lower PSI range.

The weights of the tire rims did the vibrations .. the weights are falling off adhesion ..

Same boat after i got back from deployment. Had a shop road force, rotate them... Still have the issue. Right at 60 mph. I am checking for other shops as i don't trust the one i went to (5 star reviews, lol).

@Charlievee damn sorry to hear that, honestly it's prolly not the shop; this is a notorious 4R issue that goes deeper that balancing. If you Search on this website, there's a plethora of threads that will help you drill down.

    Goodluck!

Meh, i had the issue new off the lot back in 2018. Got them balanced and it went away, then new tires, another set of tires and it hasn't been an issue. Significant other uses the truck while i deployed and the issue is back. Won't be going back to the last shop because they beat the hell out of the rims. One of benefits of moving every three to four years, you always have to find new credible shops. noticing the ball joints in the JBA'S are a bit subject also, keep wanting more grease.

Just rotated my tires at 35K service last week and now getting the shimmy too.

Will get them rebalanced and see what happens. First 35K was flawless so I know it's the tires.

Previous owner did tires and wheels. I've added roof cage, Ceramic limo tint, clear bra, blacked out third brake light, and fixed the curb rash. Misc other foofy bits.
Unfortunately, you can’t figure out one specific thing that it is. I don’t mind having them road force balanced. I don’t mind having an alignment done. But it gets pricey, if none of those work. And right now I’m not in the market to put all new tires on it just to see if it does away with that shimmy.

It shimmy’s in the steering wheel between 60 and 70-75-ish. It’s shimmys from the floor 75 to 90. At 90 It runs pretty smooth. Unfortunately, the speed limit between here and Virginia is roughly 70 mph.

No ya you're absolutely right. Dude, I've read so much on this subject and seen guys burn so much money which obviously is a concern of yours. Use the search feature first before booking multiple road force balances and such. I mean Jesus ya done rotors, pads front AND back. Rotated, balanced, twice. As Kevin O'Learly says, stop the madness (for a minute)

There is a known problem in recent years. That said, Japanese or American-made tires are better.

Previous owner did tires and wheels. I've added roof cage, Ceramic limo tint, clear bra, blacked out third brake light, and fixed the curb rash. Misc other foofy bits.
All good info. Pathfinder is what it came with and I’ll wear them out. I leave tonight for a 1400 mile trip. It’s loaded down pretty good so we shall see. It’ll end up being about 3-4k r/t.

When I’m ready for new tires I’ll be looking here to find a gazillion opinions but I do like the sound of American made. Japanese I’d have to research.

I am well read on the subject, but just to be sure, your suggestion is to swap to a Dana carrier or ARB? Lol.

I would check the lug nuts first. Then bring it back.

Ok seriously lug nuts torqued incorrectly could be the problem? I think I brought my torque wrench with me

Are those wheels hub centric or lug centric? Are they multi pattern wheels or 6x139mm strictly?

Yes. Though unlikely it would be my first thing to check that's easy.

One time I had a strange shake/wobble feel (On my Van) after a break job so I immediately pulled over and luckily I did because the wheel was starting to weir on the treads. Tightened them right on the spot.
