Anyone know if the trd pro exhaust will fit a 2018 trd off road with kdss? I’m thinking of purchasing one.

    thank you

I don’t think the KDSS has anything to do with the exhaust run. I do have the Pro Exhaust on my 18 ORP and will admit it’s louder than I would like.

Not sure about the fitment but I hate the loud exhaust. Very annoying on mountain highways.

I have become accustom to it, but if I were given a choice I would prefer not to have it!

Its one of those things made for car reviewers who only spend couple of hours with the vehicle.

Same applies to things like Camry / Avalon TRD, Lexus F sport, Sienna Woodland (or something, can't remember exactly), etc..

My son's 2020 Tundra V8 TRD PRO sounds awesome no Hwy drone at all love that sound from startup to cruising. As for my V6 2022 4Runner ORP it's just not the same. Wanted to install the TRD exhaust but on 2nd thought I'll save the money and do without the Hwy exhaust drone that comes with the V6 engines.

Have a screaming baby in the back. At least that sounds better than the TRD exhaust.

Does it really sound that bad? I was looking at the Magnaflo Overland exhaust but would do the TRD one for the right price

It can be loud. I got my truck with 1 mile on the odometer, now close to 1800 miles and I can say it was way louder and boomier under engine load at first.

Hm...Maybe I will stick with the MF Overland. It has the No Drone Tech that interested me.

One man's dream exhaust sound is another's noise pollution. Such a subjective topic.

If you do a lot of highway driving and really dislike a droning exhaust then you should look at this option especially since they are promising no drone.

The exhaust I purchased for my QX70 stated no drone (Helmholtz technology), but it droned during low rpm situations. I eventually took it off and sold it because it gave me a massive headache. It was awesome 90% of the time, obnoxious the remaining 10%.

That's a bummer. At least Toyota never said the TRD exhaust doesn't drone. This can be such a turn off for sensitive ears. It may be best for the OP to stick to the stock exhaust.

2021 TRD ORP (with TRD exhaust) - I purchased a lightly used 2018 stock exhaust from a member and sold my TRD exhaust to another member.
I even added Dynamat Xtreme and a perfectly cut to size Dynamat DynaPad to the back cargo area under the carpet.
But alas, I couldn't take it, it drones on the highway - in town though it is kind of fun.
Now, I enjoy the sound of silence and my AT tires on the highway.

I will be installing Dynamat on the trunk floor soon when I upgrade the audio system. It will be interesting to see if it changes the drone at all. I suppose it depends on what exactly is resonating inside the vehicle. If it's something other than the floor then.....not much will change.

Their aren't many V6's that have a nice exhaust note. I think the TRD exhaust just naturally creates a flow through that drones in the RPM band your running at highway speeds. If you have a standard cargo deck you should add a Dynamat DynaPad on top of the Dynamat. It's about $109 on Amazon. It does a good job of bring down the road noise in the rear. It helped nicely when I did my audio upgrade.

I love me some Ark performance exhaust parts, ran some of their pieces on my old BRZ and their catless but resonated front pipe killed the drone wonderfully in cab, the folks following me on the freeway however were pounded to oblivion with the drone of the UEL header. The one for the qx70 needs the helmholtz resonators more towards the middle of the car to kill all the in cabin drone vs at the rear as a part of their muffler.

Thanks! I really appreciate the tips. I have the sliding cargo deck so the best I can hope for is a reduction in the noise by applying Dynamat on the floor. I haven't taken a road trip in the 4Runner yet so I don't know just how much the drone will bother me. I'm thinking this will be a factor when going to the mountains.

After driving today and listening closely I think part of my noise is the CAI along with the exhaust.

I have a 2021 SR5 Premium with the TRD exhaust.

The drone has always bothered me, especially in the hills and mountains. The six-hour-each-way trip to Silverton last summer was not the most comfortable for my ears. After that trip, I put sound matting in cargo area, but it didn't make enough difference. Even the hills on the daily commute are a noisy chore.

Yesterday, I drove my 2010 Rav 4 Sport (which has a V6) to work and I was reminded of what it should sound like. My daughter normally drives it, so it is rare I get to use it anymore.

So, today I crawled underneath the 4runner to inspect the exhaust system for leaks. That is when I noticed the TRD badge on the exhaust tip. A quick check online found a video of someone showing difference between the stock and TRD systems. What a difference. I've already ordered the OEM stock parts. If this works to reduce the noise like I hope it will, I won't miss my old Tundra the 4runner replaced.

Perhaps in a few weeks there will be couple of parts from a Gen 5 TRD exhaust system up for sale.

Wait, I’m confused and trying to understand, so what you’re saying is you replaced the TRD Pro exhaust tip for a non-TRD Pro exhaust tip to lessen the drone? Or did you replace the entire exhaust (muffler and half-pipe) system?

I don’t think changing just the tip will make any difference in drone but correct me if I’m wrong.
