My Pro rims came in over the weekend. What a HUGE difference. Found a local guy who hooked it up with his new Pro Tires that he took off his TRD Pro 4Runner. I also went back and ordered a skid plate. Called Stevinson West today and they said they are waiting for more to come in. Should be by the end of the week.

All I can think about is what a PITA it is to clean the pro rims. Glad I'm in such good company.

I am probably the only 4R owner in the world that has not real interest in them. Never been a wheel guy and seeing countless threads on TW where people have scuffed their Pro Wheels or who know what happened to them and getting all upset has me thinking “why are you upset if you took it offroad and the got a scratch?”. Mine, meh, they have scratches and a few rock chips and I don’t care.

Also, 7” wide vs. 7.5” wide.

Not really interested in any of them. Cold Air Intake (CAI).
The skid plate in the sale was $351. I got mine $270 plus with taxes at my local dealership.

I like them, just don’t find them attractive enough to dump $$ on something I’m going to scuff or scratch. And, actually...been considering switching to steelies.

Even the skid plate, is it functional enough? Does it offer enough protection? Should I look at @BAMF or RCI? I know the OE ones are ok but I think I need more.

I really think it’s for show more than anything. The intake already pulls air from outside the engine and and in from the fender. Pretty sure the TRD CAI pulls from the same exact location

    A real CAI is this!

And, run a TRD air filter and pull the secondary element and you’re good to go.

That’s it. Soon! I’m thinking of the Dobinson snorkel. Right now I run K&N air filter and I’ve noticed the difference. Almost got the TRD air filter but K&N was on sale plus our discount.

If I’m not mistaken ARB Snorkel is $545 and Dobinson is $300.

I had a long chat with a guy at an event last year about snorkels. He pointed out that for him it was not about fording rivers etc but to get cleaner cooler air into his engine. He pointed out the factory air intake is down by the front tire and dust and dirt and heat from the engine while the snorkel puts it above all of that. Never really wanted a snorkel until I spoke with him and now I kind of do.

I like it for its purpose and looks on our rig as well. This would be a good “respiratory” addition for the car =)

So how much faster will a snorkel make your 4runner go?

Well that is a complicated question. In theory the air should be cooler than it is from the factory intake location. But I would think even that would depend on the ambient temperature and humidity at the time of the test. Of course cooler air is denser which means it has the potential to produce more power assuming the ECU can adapt and get the A/F ratio optimized. Some of this would also depend on the quality of the install and whether or not their were any leaks in the system.

The other part of "So how much faster....." has to do with aerodynamics. Obviously the snorkel sticks way up in the air and I am sure it creates additional drag which will actually SLOW the vehicle down.

So bottom line answer to your question - I have no freaking clue.

    But they look cool.

I think it won’t make the rig to go faster however it could give a breather in the engine since it’s getting a better air quality I think.
